Part 7 Dressing up

It was now late, and Nishikata was sitting at her desk, in a light blue bathrobe with a bright red blush on her face. "Why did mom have to force me to take a shower?" She asked aloud. "Maybe I should have asked her to help me." She shook her head and turned to her desk. "I need to stay focused, I'll learn the way to reverse this curse tonight, and finally become a boy again." She continued to sit there and glanced at her light blue bathrobe. "Guess I still haven't fully come to grips with being a girl ... I wonder if I'll have to readjust when I change back."

She continued to sit there, focusing on the strange feeling of joy that came with wearing light blue. "Same thing when mom was doing my hair ... this joy ... it feels so much more intense." She hugged herself and shivered with joy. "It's like it's ticking my skin, it's so pleasant ... maybe ..." She got up and walked over to her mirror to get a good look at herself. She looked much the same as before, only now her hair was tied into a ponytail to prevent it from spreading everywhere. "I ... wonder if it'll be less strange for me ... if I try and get used to it." She placed her thumb and pointer finger on her chin and thought about it. "I do like it a lot ... and I'll never have another opportunity like this ever again." She took a quick look around her room before looking back at the mirror and twirling the end of her hair. "No one's here ..." She quickly made her way to her bags and started going through them until she picked out a light blue t-shirt. "I wonder what I'll look like in this."

She took off the bathrobe, put the t-shirt on, then went to get a proper look in the mirror. "Hmm ..." She grabbed her hands behind her back and leaned to the side, then she gave the smug expression she saw on Takagi all the time. "I kinda like it."

She went back to the bags and pulled out another outfit, this time it was black. "Let's see this one goes." She changed out of her first outfit and into the new one before standing in front of the mirror and getting a good look. "Wow." She said as she looked in the mirror; the shirt was a little tight around her chest but hung loosely around her waist where it swayed as she moved. "I mean ... I know it's the same shirt as before but ..." She turned slightly to one side and began rubbing her arm closest to the mirror. "I'm ... really cute."

She continued trying on various outfits and was currently looking at herself in the pink t-shirt that she was so nervous about. "This is actually quite fun." She giggled, then swayed side to side. "I look good in pink." She paused, thinking how strange it still was. "Still feels a little strange though ... but I can still enjoy it ... you know what, screw if it feels strange, I'm having fun!"

She continued but soon got tired of trying on t-shirts, but quickly became frustrated at the lack of variety she had. "Damn ... mom was right, I should have gotten a little diversity." It was then that her eyes fell on the dress her mom had gotten her, the very same one she said she should wear on her first date. "I mean ... I don't really plan on staying like this long enough to actually have a date ... so I should try it on." She walked over to it and looked at it nervously. "It ... it's just a dress ... it's beautiful ... which is why I want to wear it."

She walked over to the mirror and held it up in front of herself and was at a loss for words; the dress itself was a simple light blue summer slip dress, but Nishikata was eager to try it on all the same. "I ... this feels so strange but I'm excited."

"Honey?" Came a voice from the other side of the door to her room, sending a shiver down her spine. The door soon opened and her mom walked in as Nishikata felt as if her life was ending. "I just wanted to make sure-" She stopped as soon as she saw her daughter standing in front of a mirror in nothing but a pink t-shirt, holding the light blue dress she had gotten her. "Is ... everything okay?"

Nishikata stood there, completely shocked and nearly at a loss for words. "I ... it's not what it looks like."

"Really?" Her mother asked with a smile. "Because it looks like," Her smile quickly faded. "You're staying up way past your bedtime."

Nishikata let out a sigh. " I'm fifteen, and it's Saturday."

"I don't care, you need to find out how to reverse this curse on you, and you can't do that if you're awake."

Nishikata looked a little guilty as her mom walked into the room. "Care to tell me why you're not asleep? Are you having so much fun playing dress-up that you've given up on turning back into a boy already?"

"NO!" Nishikata exclaimed. "I just ... can't sleep."

Her mother sighed. "Okay then ... I'll let it slide this once, but don't assume that just because you've turned into a girl means that you've avoided punishment for misbehaving."

Nishikata nodded. "I understand mom."

"Good." She opened the door, then smiled at her daughter. "By the way, I'm happy that you're letting yourself enjoy things."

"Mom!" Nishikata exclaimed once more.

She laughed, but then stopped before walking through the door. "I almost forgot, how did your conversation with Takagi-san go?"

Nishikata sighed. "Well ... she didn't tease me."

"Well that's good news, right?" She asked in a slightly accusatory tone.

"Well yeah, but ... she said that it was a lot to take in and asked if she could talk to me later."

There was an awkward silence before Nishikata's mom walked over and pulled her into a hug, causing Nishikata's demeanor to change instantly as she started crying. "Oh honey, is there anyone else you can talk to?"

"I don't know," Nishikata said between tears. "All my other friends are boys, and they ... I trust a number of them but ..."

"They're still boys."

"Don't say it like that," Nishikata said as she looked away. "I used to be a boy."

"So then, are you willing to trust them?"

Nishikata was quiet for a few moments.

"If they're your friends, then they'd be helpful."

Nishikata sighed. "I'm nervous about it, I mean I need to talk to someone before going back to school, I don't want to be by myself like this."

"Then do you want to take off from school?"

Nishikata shook her head. "No ... if Takagi-chan doesn't contact me by tomorrow afternoon ... I'll ... I'll tell them."

"I'm not trying to pressure you honey if you want to take a few days off-"

"Every day I take off will be a day I can't reverse this, so I need to talk to someone."

"And?" Her mother asked.

Nishikata sighed and glanced to the side. "I need to sleep."

"Good girl."

Nishikata groaned as she removed her t-shirt and put on some sleepwear. "I really, REALLY hope I can finish this quickly."

"I don't think you'll be that lucky."

Nishikata sighed, then threw herself onto her bed. "Yeah well, I can't wait to be a boy again."

Her mom walked back to the door, then looked back at her daughter. "Me too sweetheart."

Her mom walked out of the room but looked through the door one last time before giving a slightly sad smile. 'I wish we had twins.'
