Chapter 11: The Notes

"Alright, why are you sad!?" Charlie spoke in a stern whisper after she'd dragged Alastor to the elevator. Other demons passed by, giving them curious glances.

"Sad?" Alastor looked up as he was called out.

"You may smile all the time, but I can smell sadness from miles away. When someone I care about is sad, that's unexceptionable!" Alastor couldn't help but smirk, even if he was depressed. He'd always found Charlie's compassion and optimism inspirational. The elevator doors opened and Charlie pulled him in, making sure to put her key into the slot that let the hotel staff on the staff floor before anyone else could enter the elevator.

"Spill the beans!" Charlie turned to Alastor, arms crossed.

"I'm afraid I don't have any beans to spill." Alastor tapped his fingers on elevator wall. He could do this all day.

"Alastor!" Charlie's voice had a sudden steel to it, "If you don't tell me what emotional rod has been shoved up your ass, I swear to God that I will tell your mother and let her deal with your crap!" Alastor's head snapped to face Charlie. He'd not been expecting this sudden ace up her sleeve.

"You wouldn't dare." Alastor hissed with venom.

"Spill the damn beans you emotionally complicated fuck." Charlie didn't back down. Alastor growled in annoyance.

"Fine!" He gave an exasperated sigh as Charlie went from pissed to ecstatic.

"Really!?" Charlie had never been able to get Alastor to share anything personal with her before.

"Yes. Let's just wait until we reach the top. The living room should be vacant." Charlie bobbed up and down from her happiness as they waited to reach the top.

When they reached the top floor, Charlie followed along side Alastor as they went into the living room. They sat on the couch, Charlie waiting eagerly for Alastor to talk to her. Alastor let out a long, drawn out sigh.

"Hypothetically speaking Charlie, what if I were to tell you that I may or may not...love someone...romantically?" Alastor looked over to see Charlie staring up at him, obviously trying not to scream with excitement.

"Well~" Charlie thought about f her next words carefully, "since we're speaking hypothetically, can I ask who this person is?" Alastor glanced at her again. He appeared to be thinking very hard on his answer.

"This hypothetical person is someone you know, and is tall. That's all you need to know." It was clear that was all she would be getting from him about the identity of the "hypothetical" person.

"Well Alastor, does this hypothetical person know you love them?" Charlie scooted just a little closer, doing everything she could to make sure she could tell Alastor was telling the truth, and that she didn't make him uncomfortable.

"No." Alastor suddenly grew sullen, "They can never know. It would be to dangerous, if they even accepted me that is."

"How will we know if you don't ask?" Charlie asked the question with a careful tone, trying not to be to pushy.

"It's just safer for them if they didn't know." Alastor's words and sad tone made Charlie get up and stand in front of him. When he looked up at her, she had a scarily determined face.

"Alastor, listen closely to what I'm about to say." Charlie paused to make sure he was listening, "If this person loves you, and I mean truly loves you, they're not going to care if they're in danger! Believe it or not, but I was where you are now when I realized I loved Vaggie! I thought that since I was the princess of Hell, if someone wanted to get to me, they might try to hurt Vaggie! I never told her how I felt until she told me she felt the same! I tried to convince her that it wasn't safe around me and that she'd be better off without me! Do you know what she did next?"

"No." Alastor listened with great interest.

"She kissed me and said that she would go through every danger in the universe to be with me! She loves me that much! That's true love, Alastor!" Charlie was now standing on the coffee table, "If this person loves you, they won't care about dangers, differences, nothing! There's only one way to find out if they love the though, tell them you love them!" Charlie shook her fist in the air, looking like the protester.

"You think I should tell them?" Alastor was watching intensely as Charlie ranted.

"Yes!" Charlie suddenly calmed down and got off the table, folding her arms behind her back, "But we are just speaking hypothetically, of course." Charlie gave a wink, making Alastor chuckle.

"Thank you, Charlie. I didn't realize how much I needed this." Alastor got up and made his way to the elevator.

"Anytime, Al!" Charlie called after him.

-----------------------------------------------------------

"Angel! You look absolutely ravishing tonight!" Alastor spoke suavely to the mirror before rubbing his temples, "No, no, no. That sounds like I want to eat him." Alastor paced in his bathroom before pausing in front of the mirror again.

"Angel dear, would you like to try the dating thing with me? No! That doesn't sound right." Alastor let out a sigh of disappointment.

"Why am I doing this? Charlie may be right about telling him, but if he didn't feel the same...I don't know if I could stand that." Alastor paced a few more times, thinking to himself. His shadow was leaning in the doorway, watching in mild interest.

"You could just walk up to him and tell him. You're making this extremely complicated." Alastor stopped and glared at the shadow.

"I can't just do that! I want to do this right. If I'm going to do this, then I want to make it something special, something worthy of Angel Dust's affection." The shadow rolled his eyes.

"Wow, you're such a romantic." The shadow spoke sarcastically, "What are you going to do, make him a candle light dinner and confess in some sappy, romantic way?"

"That's it!" Alastor spun around, his smile taking up half of his face, "I'll make him dinner!"

"Why do I even bother?" The shadow muttered as he melded into a regular shadow. Alastor almost tore the door off it's hinges as he started a brisk walk towards the kitchen, but then stopped as an idea came to mind.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Angel was petting Fat Nuggets and scrolling through Demongram when he noticed a small slip of black paper with red ink get pushed through the crack under his door. He walked over and picked it up, gazing at it questionably. He started to read the neat cursive words written in the blood colored ink.

"My dearest, Angel

I have decided to have dinner on the rooftop tommorow evening. If you wish to dine with me, just make sure to let me know before 8 o'clock tomorrow. I hope you will join me.

                                       Your friend,
                                                         Alastor"

Angel smirked and pulled out a pink pen and a scrap of notebook paper from his nightstand.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Alastor turned away from the nice outfits he had laid out on the bed at the sound of paper sliding across a smooth surface. He saw a scrap of paper by the crack at the bottom of his door. He bent down to pick it up and read the neat pink letters.

"Dear, Alastor

  It's a date.

  Love, Angel"

Alastor felt his face grow hot at the words "date", and "love". He also couldn't help but chuckle at how Angel's O's looked like little hearts. The shadow appeared, peering over Alastor's shoulder and wearing a teasing smile.

"You're blushing~" the shadow taunted.

"No I'm not!" Alastor retorted as he put the note in his nightstand drawer, where he put things he held dear to him. All that was in there was a picture of his mother, a picture of all of the Hazbins, a picture he and Angel took together that Charlie called a "selfie", and now the note.

"When are you planning on telling him during dinner?" The shadow pried as Alastor turned back to the two pairs of nice clothes on his bed.

"I'm not sure." Alastor answered with complete honesty, "I guess I'll just know."
