Chapter Nineteen

Y/n's P.O.V.

As Klaus and I continued reading through the book of codes, I couldn't help but look up at Quigley who was looking through the telescope keeping an eye out for Sunny. "What were you two talking about?" Klaus asked. I looked over at him and sighed. "Nothing, I just told him that I was glad to see him again," I answered. "I think it's obvious that he likes you, I saw him blush on a little while you were talking," he whispered.

Before I could protest, I heard Quigley call out our names. "Someone is coming down that slope!" We ran over to the deck and Quigley handed me the telescope so I could see better. When I looked through it, I saw someone skiing down the frozen waterfall "I don't think it's Sunny, They're too tall to be Sunny, It looks like the person is on fire," I said handing the telescope back to Quigley.

"It's not fire, it's fashion, that's Esme!" Violet gasped." We all ran into hiding, Quigley and I hid underneath the table. and we saw Esme ski into the headquarters. Quigley and I backed up and we hid ourselves a little more and we slipped on our snow masks. "I thought you volunteers were supposed to be smart. But, if someone's still lurking around that's very stupid. Your headquarters are destroyed, your worst enemies are on top of that mountain," Esme eerily said.

Then, suddenly, Esme poked her head out underneath the table, and Quigley and I ran out from underneath the table and we hid in the burnt hot tub room. "Don't run away, I just want to torture you until you give me the location of the sugar bowl, are you in the kitchen? Perhaps you're hiding in, whatever this room is. You'd better come out now, when I get my hands on you, skinning you alive will be the second worst thing I've done in a hot tub," Esme taunted.

As she approached our hiding spot, we heard her let out a scream. We all came out of our hiding spots and stood at the edge of the very deep hot tub. "Is she alive?" I asked. We looked down into the hot tub, and we saw that she was still alive. "Get me out of here at once! Being trapped in a hot tub is even less "in" than getting in a hot tub on purpose!" she yelled. "I can make a pulley to get her out," Violet suggested. But, I had a better idea in mind.

"Wait, Count Olaf has someone you love, now we have someone he loves, we could arrange a trade, Olaf captures people to get what he wants," I said. "You really want to do the same thing as him?" Klaus asked. "I agree with her, sometimes you have to fight fire with fire," Quigley hissed. "If everyone fought fire with fire, the world would go up in smoke," Klaus protested.

"Why do your voices sound so familiar? Wait a minute, You're not volunteers at all, you're the Baudelaires!" Esme shrieked. She looked over at me and Quigley and squinted at us, like she was staring into the sun. "Didn't you float off in a bunch of balloons?" she asked. "I'm Quigley Quagmire and I survived the fire," Quigley answered. Then, she looked over at me, and I felt her cold glare pierce my soul. "You look familiar, didn't you lose your poor mother and sister a few years ago? Such as same your sister had to kill herself to be with your mother again, I always envied that woman,"

"You have no right to talk about my family, you monster!" I growled. Esme just let out a cackle like it was a hysterical joke. "We'll get you out, Esme, but only if you help get our sister back," Klaus said. "And what if I refuse?" She asked. We had no idea what we were going to do, so we all just looked at each other wondering if any of us had any idea on what to do if she said no.

Esme went on to explain how our side of the schism was being righteous and well-read never gets us anywhere. Honestly, I was getting tired of her talking, but I bit back my tongue. "I knew that dumb Anna Karenina book would never help me, so I threw it in the fireplace, and look at me now! I'm beautiful and fashionable!" she finished. "Says the one trapped in a hot tub," I said.  "And I'm still better off than you! You will never save your sister, just like you will never save those rich kids hiking up Mount Fraught to celebrate False Spring.

I gasped when I found out they were going to do to those poor Snow Scouts. "Guys, They're gonna kidnap the Snow Scouts and murder their parents," I barely whispered. I was so scared for them, and not only did we have to save Sunny, we had to save those Snow Scouts.
