Chapter Thirty Four: Reaction

The announcer came back through as we won the winning point. "That's another thrilling victory for the Beverly High Eagles,"
It was about a week since the blow-up between Jordan and his father. It's been off around the Bakers' house. It's weird not to see Jordan and Coach acting like this. We just won our last game before we go up against Crenshaw for playoffs. Jordan walked up to the team.  "All right, whose house?"
      The team cheered. "Our house!"
Ever since the last game,  Jordan's confidence level when it comes to football has been sky high. Jordan repeated himself. "Whose house?"
       "Our house!"
      "Who's next?"
      "South Crenshaw!"
Jordan walked up to me after that, smiled and pulled me into a hug and I hugged him back "Great game!"
He kissed me quickly. "My lucky charm,"
Coach cleared his throat. "The best gift I could give y'all after a game like that is a short speech,"
Jordan dropped on of his arm and looked sideways at Coach. "You've given me everything all year, and I thank you for that. I'm just asking for one more game. If we beat South Crenshaw, we will be state champions. Y'all heard?"
       "Yes, Sir!"
       Coach nodded. "Hit the showers,"
He turned and looked at Jordan and I. "Look, we wouldn't have made it this far without you. The team couldn't ask for a better captain, and, um, I couldn't ask for a better son, so I'm proud of you,"
Jordan rolled his eyes. "So much for your short speech, Dad," He then looked at me. "I'm gonna take a shower and I'll meet you at the car.
Jordan kissed the side of my face and walked off. I smiled at him and then back at Coach looked at me and was about to say something but I beat him to it. "Not being rude or anything like that but whatever is going on between you two is between you two and you'll have to figure it out with each other,"
I spotted Layla standing on the sideline and I said my goodbyes to Coach and walked over there. She looked at me and gave me a look that said 'sucks'. "Tough situation between Coach and Jordan huh,"
I sighed and chuckled uncomfortably. "You have no idea,"
I saw Spencer walked up to us and he gave Layla a quick kiss.  Layla smiled up at hin. "Hey, they were really rough on you out there,"
Spencer just shook it off. "Nothing I couldn't handle,"
Layla chuckled slightly. "Okay, I was gonna offer you a message, but you're okay,"
With that, I was out. "And with that, I'm out.  I'll catch you guys later,"
I walked towards Jordan's car which he was parked closer to the lights since the incident happened. As soon as I got close to the car, I took out the keys he gave me and started to unlock the car.
A voice came from behind me making me jump a mile into the air. "Chrissy,"
I turned around and saw that it was my little sister Erica. My heart started to race. I looked around to see if there was anyone walking closer to us but I couldnt see anyone. "What are you doing here?"
She sighed. "No one is here with me,"
I scoffed as if I would believe her. I reached for the door handle just in case. "You have to forgive me, if I don't believe that,"
"I swear, I just want to apol-"
Jordan's voice came out of nowhere. "Aren't you suppose to be on juvie?
My heart slowed down a bit as soon as I heard his voice. "No, I'm in a girls' home,"
I could see another figure walk out of the shadow. It was Asher. "Chrissy has a restraining order against you, so I suggest you get the hell out of here before I call the cops,"
Jordan rolled his eyes. "I don't need help protecting my girlfriend, Asher,"
Asher took a step closer to Jordan, trying to assert himself. "She's been my friend way before she even met you, bro,"
"Yeah, but you're the reason we broke up,"
I had enough of this. "Shut up both of you," I said causing both of the boys to be quiet.
Erica looked between the two boys feuding and then to me. "Do you not know?"
I rolled my eyes annoyed. "Know what? That Grant was the reason behind Ripley? Yes, they know. Jordan just throws it in Asher's face cause he's mad at him for something that has nothing to do with me. Now, please leave or I will call the cops," I said.
Ericka sighed and left. I looked at both of the boys. "You guys need to sorta whatever problems you have out,"
I then turned my glance on just Jordan. "I get that your upset at Asher but leave me and our relationship out of it because while yes Asher did blurt everything out in front of everyone. He isn't the reason we broke up. Now please let's go,"
We were in the car for a few minutes when Jordan started to talk. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have thrown that in his face knowing what I know. I'm still just pissed at what he did,"
"J, I understand you're mad. I'm not trying to say that isnt a big deal but in ten years is him giving the playbook away gonna seem such a big problem?"
Jordan just shrugged. sighed. "Why still mad over it? He made a mistake and he's trying to own up to it,"
"I don't know. It's your choice to stay mad over it and I will still be here but why waste time being mad over something like that?"
       ----
It was the day after yesterday and Spencer, Layla, Olivia, Jordan, Chris and I were at Spencer's work. JJ was there too. Somewhere. Layla, Liv and I were all sitting down while the boys were standing. Well, Spencer had to cause he was also working. "Whatever, you were the one that acted like a lost puppy whenever she was around even before y'all started dating," Liv said.
Chris grinned and looked at Jordan. "Wait, what?"
I laughed as Jordan shifted. "Yeah, we've been close friends for years. Mainly due to Asher always bringing her around. So we got super close. But little mister Jordan developed a crush on her when he was like at least thirteen. So whenever she was around, Jordan would follow her around constantly just like what a lost puppy would do,"
Spencer and Chris busted out laughing. "Dude,"
"Okay, it wasn't when I was thirteen it was like when we were nine and obviously I don't do it anymore,"
"Uh huh sure," Liv said. "You totally don't do that anymore,"
Jordan rolled his eyes and placed his hand on my knee. Liv kept on telling the story. "Before he asked her out finally we would always tell him 'Jordan, you're playing yourself if you didn't realize that this girl has had a crush on you for years' and he wouldn't believe us but I bet you believe us now?"
Only thing Jordan did was mock his sister. I laughed. "Mature J,"
Chris straightened up as he began to talk. "Hey, you know what, y'all? I'd actually like to make a toast to the Beverly Eagles. Congratulations on doing something me and my boys never could Making it to the championship with my boy Spencer,"
Jordan raised his fist up to Spencer yi fist bump. "Hey, that's fine, all right? Take Spence any day of the week,"
Chirs grinned and nodded to himself. "You know what? Y'all should actually come through to my crib tomorrow night. My parents are out of town, so you know I'm throwing a party. It could be one last celebration before we crush y'all dreams next week,"
Jordan scrunched his face, the way he does when he's being competitive. "Oh really?"
I laughed and rolled my eyes.  "You're dream-"
JJ cut me off. "A party? I'm on it,"
Chris' facial expression was clearly confused as hell. Poor guy. Should told me to be careful with the p word around JJ. "He's on it? On what?"
At that exact second all of our phones went off with the details of Chris' party. "Okay, how does he know my address?"
Layla nodded. "I think a party could be fun,"
"Yeah, we can all go together,"
Spencer seemed a bit distracted. "Sounds fine,"
"Fine? Spence, you out of your mind, man. You know my parties are lit,"
He nodded and started to walk back to work. "Heh. Yeah,"
Chris looked back at the table."But seriously, how does he know the address?"
"It's JJ. He's mysterious like that. He's actually kinda creepy, how much he knows,"
Jordan looked to me and then to Chris. "Wanna play pool?"
"If you want your ass kicked,"
         "You wish, coming babe?"
I shook my head. "No, I'm staying here,"
He nodded and kissed the side of my forehead. "Okay,"
Chris asked Liv if she was staying here too and she said yes. So it was just us girls. "Hey, can I stay over again tonight?"
Liv nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, no, stay as long as you want. Have you told Spencer how freaked out you are to go home?"
"Um, no. He thinks I'm staying there 'cause I'm worried about him,"
I see Asher walk in and past us and Liv spots him. "I'm gonna get water. You guys need anything?"
         "No,"
         "No,"
Liv nodded and walked away. I looked at Layla. She terrified of going home because her house was broken into and everything was stolen. "You know if you tell Spencer the truth, he'll stay with you a few times a week,"
"Yeah, but he's not allowed to do that,"
"I'm pretty sure Coach wouldn't mind it,"
"Yeah, I don't know. Spencer has a lot going on and I don't want to put more on his plate,"
"Layla, I said the same thing to J, but once I did it made us closer. Just tell him,"
          ----
I was sitting in the kitchen with Olivia, while Coach was talking to some random dude in his office, Laura was outside talking to her agent, Jordan was asleep still. Layla was out doing errands. "I can't believe that after all the beef Crenshaw and Beverly have Chris, invited us to a party. It's due to you,"
         "And Spencer,"
"Mainly due to you cause Chris cares about you deeply,"
Before she could answer Laura and her agent came in. "The poll numbers aren't great. You're not coming across as relatable. Voters see you as just another rich Beverly Hills woman,"
"I'm relatable. How am I not relatable?"
"Course you're relatable, baby. You're strong, smart, successful,"
Liv nodded. "Right. Strong, smart, successful, rich Beverly Hills woman,"
Coach looked over at his daughter. "Not helping, Olivia,"
Her agent smiled. "Luckily, I have the solution; your family. They're the perfect image for your campaign. They're charming, attractive. Diverse. That doesn't hurt,"
"I'm just not sure I'm comfortable using my family like that,"
"Why not? We're stuffing envelopes. If it'll help you win, I'm in," Olivia said.
"I'll set up the photo shoot this weekend,"
        "Photo shoot?"
"Do you think Spencer would be willing to join? He's like family, right?"
"Yeah, and he's from Crenshaw. That doesn't hurt,"
        "That's a good idea, yeah,"
The agent pointed at me and I was confused. "And also you,"
        "Me?"
"Yes, you have been friends with them for years,"
"Okay but I'm just the girlfriend of her son. This is for family,"
"You're family, even if you and Jordan break up but I agree with Chrissy. The photo shoot should be just for blood-related family,"
Her agent nodded and started to walked to the front door. "Okay, Ill get setting it up,"
Laura walked over to me and placed her hand on my shoulder after her agent left. "Chrissy, please don't take that the wrong wa-"
I shook my head as I cut of him. "I wasn't comfortable doing it either. So no worries,"
It had been an hour or two since the agent decided to have a family photo shoot and Jordan, Olivia and I were all in her room just talking and laughing. Olivia looked over at me. P
"I don't understand why you choose to be around him? I don't have a choice,"
"He's cute, what can I say?"
        Liv chuckled. "Sureeee,"
She turns her head and immediately drops her smile. "Mom, are you okay?"
We all turn our heads and saw that Laura was crying. "No. There's something I need to tell you,"
I got up from Liv's bed, kissed J and started walking towards the door. "I'll just wait in your room J,"
Laura caught my arm before I made it to the door and stopped me. "No. You're like my daughter, plus Jordan would tell you anyways. So please stay,"
I nod and sit back down next to Jordan. "This is gonna be hard to say and even harder for you guys to take but I'm not going to keep it a secret from you guys, your father, Billy for you Chrissy, had an affair a few years ago,"
         "Wait, what?"
Jordan looked at his mother with a range of emotions. Confusion. Hurt. Anger. "When? With who?"
She sighed. "Ten years ago and Grace James,"
I spoke softly.  "As in Spencer's mom?"
She nods. Liv looked at her mother with the same emotions as Jordan did. "Why?"
"When he hurt his knee, he felt like he lost everything including who he was and one night he found himself back in his old neighborhood with his old girlfriend and it happened,"
She started to cry and I didn't say anything but wrapped her arms around her and hugged her, not a second later her kids did the same thing.  "I'm so sorry, mom," The twins said at the same time.
         ----
We were in his room after Laura told us what Billy did and Jordan is extremely upset which is perfectly fine. "J. J. J. Please calm down,"
Jordan stopped pacing in the room and looked at me. "Calm down? Calm down?  That loser cheated on my mom, who did nothing but love him and then moved the woman's son into our house. I can't calm down,"
I walked up to him and placed my hands on both of the sides of his face and pecked his lips. "I'm not saying, your anger is misplaced because it isn't. All I'm saying is you need to calm down before you have a nervous breakdown. Jordan, let's go to the party and forgot about this for a few hours, okay?"
He looked at me for a few moments before he huffed and kissed me. "Okay,"
We drove for about half an hour before arriving at Chris'. Jordan just turned off the car and sat there and so did Liv. I didn't say anything, instead, I turned sideways in the seat, placed one of my hands on Jordan's leg and reached for Liv's hand and held it. They didn't look at me. "No matter what life throws at us, I will always be by your side. You guys are my family and I will never hurt you,"
They looked at me but didnt say anything. Liv squeezed my hand before she pulled it out and got out of the car. Jordan grabbed my hand with his and pulled it up to his lips and kissed it. I smiled. "Are you ready?"
       "Yeah,"
       ----
We walked into the backyard and it was already crowded and reeked of alcohol. I'll never understand how people can like the smell of alcohol.
We walked up to Layla when we saw her. "Hey, I could really use another friend tonight. One that isn't dating my brother,"
Layla looked at her. "Yeah, what do you need?"
"Um Well, a new father would be a good start,"
I placed my hand on Liv's shoulder to try to comfort her. "We just found out he had an affair with Spencer's mom. Olivia, I'm so sorry. I know it was a long time ago, but it doesn't make it hurt any less,"
As soon as Jordan heard Layla say that, I could feel him tense up by the way he was holding my hand. This isn't gonna end well.
"Wait. You knew? Um, Spencer told me yesterday,"
I looked over to Layla and Liv. "Wait. Spencer knew, too?"
I looked over to Jordan to say something but he wasn't there. I didn't even feel when he let her hand go. "Shit,"
"Liv, he just found out. We didn't know how to handle it,"
        "So why even try, right?"
I ignored the rest of the conversation and started to look for Jordan. I finally spotted him and he shoved Spencer. I pushed past people and finally got to Jordan. "You're a hypocrite. You freaked out when we didn't tell you about our parents dating back in high school, and you find this out and say nothing, Spence?"
"Jordan, I'm not gonna fight you, man. I know you're angry. I'm angry, too,"
Jordan shoved him again. "Is that supposed to make me feel better, huh?"
"Yo, you shove him one more time, there's gonna be a problem,"
I stood in between the two boys and looked at Chris who was walking closer to them. "Go away, Chris. This has nothing to do with you. Threatening Jordan will do absolutely nothing but add fuel to the fire,"
Jordan grabbed my hand and called over his shoulder while walking again. "You should have told me," Jordan said grabbing my hand and walking off.
Jordan and I were in a corner of the party while Liv was talking to Asher and Chris. Jordan kept drinking and drinking. I turned to look at Jordan and reached for the red solo cup but Jordan moved it from my reach. I reached it again. "Babe, you've had enough,"
"I'll decide when I've had enough," He said taking another sip.
"J, you don't need to get drunk,"
"Have your life ripped apart and you can tell me what I don't need to do,"
I was taken aback by that. My life has been ripped apart multiple time. I looked at Jordan and he was about to say something but I cut him off. "Fine, do what you want to do, see if I care,"
I walked away from him and saw Spence and Coop talking so I walked over there. Before I got over there, I could hear their conversation. "It's not the same thing,"
Coop rolled her eyes at him. "It is. Your pops must feel shame for leaving you like he did,"
Coop looking over at me. "Hey, girl. Haven't seen you in forever,"
Spencer turned around and looked at me.  I let out a sigh. "Yeah, been dealing with shit that keeps coming,"
Spencer looked away from me. "Sorry about that,"
I looked at Spencer and walked around in front of him. "Spence, it's not your fault,"
Coop sat up on the couch a little. "Jordan mad at you too?"
      "No," I said.
Which was true. I wasn't even mad at him for what he said.
     "Say that again,"
I heard Jordan said which made me turn around. I see he was in a standoff with Cam
This night keeps getting better and better. "Which part? The part about you scuffing my shoes, or the part about you being QB1 just 'cause your daddy's the coach?"
Jordan didn't respond, the next thing I knew Jordan threw a punch at Cam.
The guys started to split them up and get inbetween each other. "Hey! Hey! Hey!"
Jordan and Cam were still trying to get at each other. Cam almost broke loose but they got him before he did break loose. "No, no, no. Let him go, man. Everybody know he got a weak arm,"
Spencer ran up to Jordan and got in front of him and held on to his shirt. "Yo, chill, man,"
Jordan pushed him off him. "Get off me!"
This is exactly why I didn't want Jordan to drink. Chris walks up to them. "You know what? It's time for you Beverly Hills boys to go back to where you belong, all right? Yo, party's over! The party's over!"
Jordan didn't even take his eyes off Spencer. "It sucks when somebody crashes your world and ruins everything, doesn't it?"
I walked up to him and touch his back and whips around. "J,"
"Get off me," He said almost looking like he was gonna shove me. "Sorry, I didn't realize it was you,"
I ignored it and grabbed his shirt and pulled dragged him to his car and once we got there, I looked at him.  "What?"
       "Keys,"
He pulls them out of his pocket and hands them to me. "This is exactly why I didn't want you to drink Jordan. When you drink, you think you can take on the entire world,"
He wrinkled his nose. "Yeah, yeah,"
        I stared of him. "Really?"
"I don't know what to tell you, Chrissy. I'm sorry, I can't be the perfect boyfriend. I'm sorry, I'm not handling my dad's betrayal like you want me too. I'm sorry, that my situation isn't like yours, so it doesn't call for this type of reaction,"
I sat there, mouth opened. "I never have said any of that. You are making no sense,"
       "No, but you're thinking it,"
I looked away, blinking back the tears that were about to fall. "You know what? Screw this,"
I handed the keys to Liv. "I'm getting Layla to drive me home. Goodnight,"
