The Proton is a slide-action single-shot blaster that loads through the priming slide. Returning the slide forward is done by pushing an orange lever located on either side of the blaster, next to the firing trigger. The firing mechanism has a lock in place that prevents it from being fired without a disc loaded. An unjamming button is located on the back of the blaster.

A short tactical rail sits atop the Proton. There is a set of iron sights used for helping to aim the blaster; the rear sight is a simple notch, while the tactical rail's tooth acts as a front sight. There is one strap point built into the grip; the ring pull on the priming mechanism can also double as a strap point.
