Chapter 5: I like him more

Gabriella raised a brow, looking at the man right in front of her. She wondered what the hell is he doing here at 3 am in the morning. It's not that she minded, she was awake brainstorming about possible parts she could put in the new gun she was planning on making. She stepped out of the way, letting the man in before gesturing for him to sit down in one of her couches. Gabriella, though confused crossed her arms and tilting her head on the man in front of her. The previous bullet wounds still hurts, and she payed no mind for it. There were no other injuries Mayari had to tend to so she'll be alright in a few days.

"I heard you got ambushed." Marc commented, looking over to the bloodied business suit sitting in the counter.

"Typical day for someone like me. What are you doing here at the middle of the night, Marc?" Gabriella asked, already addressing the question in her head.

"I thought we agreed to stay hidden?" Marc asked her with a glare, while she crossed her legs at him.

"Steven doesn't know does he? He just thinks I'm some billionaire visiting his town. My job here is to supervise and help you when it's needed." Gabriella scoffed, staring at the man's eyes clearly unaffected by his glares.

"Yeah? Well Steven might develop feelings for you if you don't stop seeing him." Marc tells her off, Gab biting off a laugh.

Marc had remembered Steven almost skipping on his way home, with a very big smile on his face. He was practically glowing with happiness after taking the girl back to her hotel. Marc felt Steven's heart pick up it's pace whenever he thought of Gabriella even the slightest bit. And it confused him, because it's happening on him too. From that day until this very moment. It got him confused.

"If you don't like me, just tell me you don't. I may be someone you don't know but I'm good at my job. Steven is bound to know it, Khonshu and Mayari knows it." Gabriella snaps at him, though her tone was too calm to even interpret that she was.

"Steven is supposed to live a normal happy life, away from violence. Don't drag him into this, the deal is a deal. You will leave as soon as we find that Tomb." Marc tells her, thickening the tension building up between both of them as she stared at his eyes.

Marc knew her for just one week, but the way she looked at him creased a growing tension and butterflies in his stomach. He thought he was over with this love thing after he signed the divorce papers. But how could someone like Gabriella capture it back as if it's just a small toy that she snatched from someone's hands? It confused him how he and Steven had the same feelings over a girl that just appeared out of nowhere.

"I would leave as soon as we find it Marc Spector. The only shit were dealing with here is Arthur Harrow and his desire to bring back Ammit." She tells him strictly, her dark brown eyes eyeing him up while her face was too relaxed for Marc's sake.

"What's your deal with Steven anyway?" Marc asks her, protective of the person he created that lives in his own mind.

"Steven? He was nice, unlike you. For once, I actually considered doing my worst just to stick in a bit longer and interact with him. And I like him more than you." Gabriella shrugged, standing up as she picked up the bloodied suit from her counter, placing it in the bathroom before walking over to Marc and sitting next to him.

"Excuse you, I'm still better than him." Marc commented, earning an audible laugh from the girl.

"Don't kid yourself Marc." She laughed lightly, lifting his chin with her finger as her face went close to his.

Marc breathed, not used to being close with another human being. He usually kept his distance around others, it made him uncomfortable. But Gabriella made his heart pick up it's pace, yet he felt too comfortable with what she was doing with him right now. The tension between them was thick, yet she managed to ease on it and make him feel things. Feel things he only felt with his ex-wife.

"A girl like me prefer soft boys, but you can be an exception Mr. Spector." Gabriella smirked, their foreheads almost touching before walking away to the mini kitchen of her hotel room.

"Khonshu won't like it Miss Corazon." Marc commented, unsure where the fuck did the bird god go.

"Oh please Marc. Khonshu and Mayari had something going on between them. And Mayari won't let anything happen to me." Gab says, offering a cup of tea to Marc.

"How can I know? I don't have a god showing up at my dreams to warn me about something." Marc defended, raising his hands in defense as the girl chuckled lightly.

"Mayari gave me free will Marc. All I had to do is serve justice as Khonshu says it. How do you think you can have a few assignments every year? I'm covering you for the last year Marc." Gabriella revealed, Marc looking at her in surprise.

Oh. They were connected to each other than what he thought. Though the idea of Gabriella killing people didn't sit well in his guts. But the way she does it did something in his insides. Like someone was there, asking to come out and meet her. He blamed it on his imagination, still overwhelmed with...maybe her.

"And I liked being Mayari's avatar, it helps me do good. Even if I put more blood in my hands in doing so." Gabriella stated, sipping on the hot liquid as if it didn't burnt her tongue one bit.

"Are you not afraid?" Marc wondered, looking at her seriously while Gabriella merely shrugged.

"Afraid? The only thing I'm afraid of is falling in love. Death is nothing to me, I'll end up in more pain. Getting hurt was alright, I can fix myself. But having the ability to care for someone scares me. Then, I'll have a reason to be careful because I might loose something I treasure the most. They can take my industry, my fame, but not who I cared about. That's how deep my love goes Marc." Gabriella breathed, looking down on the ground.
