the morning after

by the time the first morning lights shone, they were sleeping soundly in each other's arms, letting their dreams tangle up into one big, happy dream. she snuggled closer, her head against his chest, and they both smiled in their sleep.

and when he woke up first, several hours after breakfast time, he looked at her and couldn't find a single thing he didn't like. in fact, he loved the way her lips were slightly parted as she slept and only then did he notice the small tattoo on the right side of her rib cage; two flowers wrapped lightly by a snake.

they were both still naked, their bare skin stuck together in some places.

her eyes fluttered and she slowly opened them, looking up at him and smiling lightly when she saw the soft smile on his own face.

“good morning.” she said and stretched her free arm.

“good morning.” he said in a sweet tone.

“you look beautiful right now.” she pointed out, staring at his face and cupping it lightly with her palm, him leaning into her touch subconsciously.

“so do you.” he said. “nice tattoo by the way.”

“it's pretty basic, to be honest.” she said lifting up her arm for him to take a better look. “but i like it so who cares.”

“agreed.”

silence falls between them for a few seconds, every word they needed to exchange was expressed through their eyes as their hands gently caressed each other.

“i think that song was right.” he said.

“which one?”

“my kind of woman.” he said. “that's you.”

she smiled. maybe it was too soon for him to say that, but she had good feeling about him.
