The intense aroma of freshly made fluffy pancakes wakes me gently from sleep. I try to postpone waking up, keeping my eyelids closed and deeply inhaling the delicious and familiar smell.

When I finally decide to open my eyes, it takes me a few moments to figure out where I am.

Attracted by the scent of pancakes, I have only one goal: to go to the kitchen.

Arriving at the door, I find my mother, father and Kate at the table, sitting in the same places they occupied in our Los Angeles kitchen. You wouldn't even say we're thousands of miles away. I sit down too, waiting for my share of happiness.

"Did you wake up well, my dear? What do you want to eat the pancakes with?" My mother asks me.

"Good morning, mother, yes, thank you. With tea," I answer, smiling.

My mother gives me tea, and I blow into it to cool it.

"Taste a little," says my father, and hands me a plate of his fabulous pancakes with maple syrup.

I'm sure only he knows how to make them so good.

After breakfast I get ready to go to the beach. I wander around the neighborhood a bit, looking for a sign, but I can't find anything. Finally I ask for information from a lady who, fortunately, shows me the street I have to take.

After a few minutes, the palm trees become more and more though, and the sidewalk trembles with people of all ages riding skateboards or roller skates, and finally seeing the ocean.

Once on the beach, I arrange my towel on the sand, take off my shoes and lie in the sun. I feel really good and I'm starting to think that maybe life here isn't so disgusting when suddenly something hits me in the arm. I get up abruptly and take off my sandy sunglasses.

A guy is running away. His eyes are bluer than the sky and his brown hair ruffled by the wind.

"Sorry, it's Cam's fault," he tells me, taking his ball.

"Ah, no, don't worry," I said, shaking the sand.

The guy smiles and looks at me for a few seconds.

" See you!"

I nod and smile at him as he lets go.

Of course, this "Cam" could have been more careful! I'm full of sand. Then ... what a shame! I don't like talking to guys I don't know at all; I never know how to behave with them .

I follow the blue-eyed guy and see him return to his group of friends.

I swear it seems to me that it was yesterday, who went red!

I lie down again and try to relax, rocked by the sound of the waves, but I can't find the magic I felt a few minutes before. Maybe I'd like some shopping ... What else would lift my spirits? And besides, I don't dislike the idea of buying new clothes for school.

I pack my things and head for what seems to me to be the center of the city, if I am to follow the number of shops and the constant flow of people.

I go into Forever 21, look around and quickly find some lightning clothes. When I leave the store, I feel satisfied: I have three T-shirts, a dress and two pairs of leggings in my bag. I just have to decide what to wear tomorrow, the first day of school! I try to imagine possible combinations, so as not to leave everything to the last minute, as I always do. I go absorbed in thoughts, and a guy on a skateboard stumbles upon me and knocks me to the ground.

What day is it today? The day everyone gets into Cris?

"Sorry," the skater immediately tells me.

I look up to see who he is. He looks about the same age as me, he has tousled blond hair and simply gorgeous brown eyes.

He takes my bag from below, gets up and hands it to me.

"Excuse me. Did you hit yourself? I ..." he stops when our eyes meet.

"Um ... I'm fine."

I take the bag and smile at him.

"Yes ... well ... Then ..." he murmured, running his hand through his hair.

But what happened? Am I wrong or is he embarrassed?

"Matt! Is everything okay?" Someone shouted as he approached us. "It's the same guy who came to get his ball on the beach." Hey, you again? "He asks amusedly, recognizing me.

"Yeah, it's all right. Do you know each other?" The blond guy wondered.

"No, but just now, Cam hit her with the ball," the blue-eyed guy explained.

They both laugh.

I don't like the situation at all. I'm starting to feel weird and I don't find it fun at all.

"I'm glad, I'm Nash," the guy added, turning to me.

"Cris," I say, smiling hard.

"I've never seen you around here. Are you new to the area? "The guy I think his name is Matt is asking me.

"Yes, I moved yesterday."

I try to stay calm and not panic.

"Then I hope to see you again soon; I'm sure some would like to have you around," Nash continued, hitting his friend on the back. "Come on, Matt! Cam, Taylor and the princess are waiting for us."

"Bye, Cris," the blond guy greets me.

"bye bye ..." I answer, smiling a little embarrassed, and watch them walk away.

Why do I suffer from this? What's wrong with me?

Nothing is going well for me since I arrived in this city! And, as if that weren't enough, I get lost on the way home. I can only find the street again with the help of a policeman.

Since the morning was full of events, I decide to spend the afternoon - the last day off before school - by my pool. There is nothing more pleasant than this on all the earth!

Everything around me is green and silent; really relaxing. And yet, I can't help but wonder what will happen this year at the new school ... I close my eyes and focus on the silence around me, to reduce my thoughts to silence.

"Come on, no!"  suddenly shouted a girl.

I go back to see what happens, but it's nothing serious: there are only two lovers who are chasing each other giggling on the street that passes by our garden.

He looks very nice, with a really nice body. She has long, wavy blond hair and is dressed in fuchsia clothes from head to toe. My headache just looking at her!

My heart aches when I see how happy they are and I remember how Set and I were in the beginning. We often went out together, spent our evenings watching movies and had a great time.

Then Sindy invited us to her birthday party. I had decided not to go, but Set preferred to go there to spend the evening with his rugby teammates. In the end, I went too, because Cass was sick and asked me to come and get her. Looking for her, I found Set in the girls' bathroom, messing with a girl.

They seemed very absorbed in each other ... And now I wonder: how long has this story been going on?

From that moment on, it was all over. It's over with us.

I'm going back to the present. The sun has set and I know that tomorrow will be a very hard day. I better go home. All I want to do is get under the blanket and take a break for a few hours.
