A Day before preliminary exams

Hinata's pov

"Take deep breaths." I slowly rubbed (Y/n)'s back. "Jeez, you sure are nervous for someone who's not even taking the test." I snickered.

She looked up at me and pouted, and proceeded to scoot away from me.

I scooted back next to her. "You know I was just joking right?" I turned her to face me. Gazing into her e/c eyes I couldn't help but smile.

"What are you so smiley about." She grumbled. "N-Not that I don't mind it, I'm happy you're in a good mood, despite having to take a stressful test tomorrow." Her mouth slowly curved upwards. "Makes me sort of calm down a bit. Knowing you're not stressed. You're confident though right?" (Y/n) gave me a concerned look.

I smirked. "Heh, since when am I not."

"Hm? What do you mean? You aren't a lot of times, Shouyou." She titled her head in a confused look. She looked awfully adorable and innocent right now.

"E-Eh?! So cold..." I grasped my chest in a playful but dramatic way. We both started laughing.

"I'm definitely going to ace this. Then you'll cheer for me at my next match."

"A promise is a promise." (Y/n) chuckled. "When is your next one actually?"

I gulped at that question, to be honest, maybe the last one I've had this year was really my last high school match. Judging from the fact that graduation isn't that far from here. Then, oh then, there's beach volleyball training. On the other side of the globe...

"Let's not look too far into it." I laughed to cover the fear in my voice.

(Y/n) raised a brow.  "...Okay." She smiled. "Since tomorrow is a big day, let's not waste any time here, you need to go home and rest up."

"No tutoring today?"

"Even if you wanted an extra session, I wouldn't do that. It's best not to pressure someone before a big day." (Y/n) looked at me. I saw my reflection through her pupils.

"Right, right." I sighed, but more from relief.

We had another quiet walk home. (Y/n) and I agreed that I'd come over this weekend. I'm not even nervous about this test. Not even with meeting her parents, because, she told me, nothing's going to happen, nothing bad, I'm sure, nothing will get in our way. I trust (Y/n).

Although there may be one thing that will temporarily put a stop in our tracks.

I decided not to dread over it until the day that comes. Obviously, she wouldn't let that hurt our relationship either, right? It's just, two years. This is important, for my dreams, for my future.

But why can't it be with her?!

"Shouyou, we're here." She grabbed my sleeve stopping me.

I laughed. "Sorry I was spacing out."

We stood there in silence before (Y/n) spoke.
"Good luck." she smiled.

"Hey if I pass this thing, it's all thanks to you." I shoved my hands into my pockets. "I'll call you when I get home! Like you always remind me to." I snickered.

She scoffed. "Well, who else is going to remind you?"

I chuckled.

(Y/n) stood there fiddling with her fingers again.

"Anything wrong?" I asked, a bit concerned.

She pointed towards her cheek, looking at me, with a playful smile. It took me a solid minute to understand what she meant.

"Oh right, of course." Laughing, I bent down a bit and placed a small chaste kiss on her right cheek, I felt the blush creeping up on both of our faces.

"We kissed each other before, (Y/n)!" I grinned.

She pouted. "I know... but every time feels like the last." She looked up.

I blushed instantly at her comment.
"Want to do that again?" I blanked out

"Not what I meant, Shouyou." She giggled. Getting back on her toes, now pecking my cheek.

She waved goodbye and walked towards her front door.
"Goodnight."

Exam day; Approximately an hour before preliminary exams begin

Hinata's pov

"Pencils, pens? Mostly pencils, but pens as well!" (Y/n) and I sat down.

"Check," I replied

She shrugged. "Well, I guess that's all on the list then."

We reviewed at least 100 words and math equations in the last 2 hours. Got to have some refreshment before a big exam.

But, quite frankly, I'm utterly dumb in anything but volleyball. (Y/n) tried her hardest these last 3 weeks and I'm sure they paid off. At least I hope.

I shook my head. No negative thoughts.

"Excited? Not me for sure..." (Y/n) chuckled.

I stood there. "I'm not sure what to feel honestly!" I put a finger on my chin.

She giggled, "Better than feeling scared. So great work? But, do your best! You've shown major improvement, just take what we did these few weeks and use it carefully."

I was expecting some sort of hug or a kiss. But all she did was give me a grin and a thumbs up. Slightly disappointed, but I saw her smile so that's even better.

"Attention, all 3rd-year students taking part in this week's preliminary examination, please head to your assigned rooms, there will be a roster showing your assigned location at the entrance if you are unsure."  The speaker sounded annoying as usual.

Before heading into the building I turned back to (Y/n) who stood there.

"Guess that's me?" I chuckled nervously. Maybe it wasn't until now that I realized that I felt my wrists shaking.

Guess I was really freaked out over this.

I almost stuttered. "I'll see you after-"

She quickly ran up to me and cupped my cheeks pecking me on my forehead. Although she at least tried to, I had to get down a bit.

"A good luck kiss." She grinned. "I don't have any sort of good luck charms or a-anything. But you don't need them."

My wrists stopped shaking. I felt much better after that.

"Right."

"See ya!"

(Y/n) waved back. I felt a fluttering feeling in my stomach, the same as when I first started feeling things for (Y/n), her small kiss still lingering on my skin.
