Chapter 1: Home Sweet Home

"I'm going to miss you." hugging Vanessa tightly. "Come back soon, okay?"

"Geez! Skye, don't worry I'll bring you a Hot Hawaiian Guy." laughing at me as I started crying in her arms.

"Shut up, but I'll miss you." Chuckling like a crazy person wiping my tears away.

"Happy you don't wear mascara, you'll look uglier if you did." She jokingly said. "I'll miss you too."

"Vanessa, we should probably go in." Mrs. Bradley said as she took the luggage with her.

"You should go now." I said sniffing my nose from crying.

"Okay, I'll see you soon." She smiles at me.

"See you soon." I said with a small frown on my face.

"I will. Bye." she said one last time waving before entering the door.

Summer vacation is finally over. It means, Vanessa will be back soon from her vacation and it makes me so excited. I wish I could come with her, but summer camp is my usual vacation spot. I'm currently on the bus going back home as the camp officially ended this morning. I'm sitting next to Serena, my new found friend from the camp and her step brother, Jake.

"Finally, I can check my twitter. I wonder what is trending right now." Serena rubbing her chin thinking.

"Could be #SummerOver or #Backtoschool." Jake answers.

"You are probably right." Serena nodding to what Jake said.

"I know right?" Jake stretching his arms, resting one over my shoulder. "How many books in total did you bring? It seems everytime I see you, you're holding a new book." He looks at the book I am holding like it was an abstract object that he was trying to figure out.

"Don't exaggerate. I only brought 5 books." I said as I push his arms away. Serena laughs at my gesture that earns her a glare from Jake.

"Give me that!" Jake took the book and opened the window. He attempts to throw my precious book, my eyes immediately widens in horror.

"Are you crazy? Give that back!" I try to snatch my book from his hand but he was taller than me, so I can't really reach it.

"First tell me something." He said smirking leaning closer to me. His sudden action got me to sit back again on my seat.

I furrowed my brows at him. "Tell you what?" I asked.

"That you love me." Jake leaning for a kiss but I quickly stopped him by pushing his face away with my palm.

"You wish!" I said.

"You know she'll never like you, stupid." Serena laughing as she grab the book out of Jake's hand and hit him in the head with it.

"Ouch, Pig!" Jake blurted as he rub the top of his head. "First of all I am not stupid!" He glare at Serena that wasn't even bothered by his death glares.

"Doubtful." She stick her tongue out at him to annoy him more.

"Shut up!" Jake said to Serena, before turning to me. "Tell me why Skye?" He asked.

I let out a breath. "Jake, I like someone else. I'm sorry." Trying to make it sound not hurtful.

"Burn!" Serena comments as she laugh harder from Jake's confused expression. "Why ask when you already know the answer."

"I said Shut up!" Jake puts his hand over Serena's mouth. "It's fine Skye. There are still other fish in the sea. I just thought maybe you had a change of heart." Jake giving me a cocky smile.

Serena bites one of Jake's finger, that immediately made him took his hand away. "Yeah, whatever."

"Rabis! Oh God!" Jake searching his bag for an alcohol.

"You two are hilarious!" Me laughing on my seat like there is no tomorrow. "Why didn't we hang out before?"

"Because you are too busy being Vanessa's assistant." Serena commented.

"I'm her bestfriend." I corrected her.

"Okay, bestfriend!" She rolls her eyes at me as she still does not believe.

"But why is it in school she boss you around so much?" Jake asks rubbing his hands together after spraying alcohol on his hands.

"No, she doesn't." I defended Vanessa. "She's just um..."

"Lazy?" Serena continued my sentence.

"Well, A little." I admit making Serena laugh.

"But totally Hot tho" Jake winking at us. Serena making a vomiting face from what he said.

"You think every girl is hot." Serena making fun of him again.

"You're not!" Jake retorted making Serena stop laughing as he began to laugh. Serena tackles him by putting her arms around his neck. "Let me go!" Jake trying to push Serena's arms away.

"Stop it you guys!" I said trying to stop them.

"No! I'll kill him." Serena said furiously.

"Pig!" Jake trying his best to break away from her.

"Dog!" Serena continues to tackle him.

"Quit it!" I tried my all but there's just no normal day that they could stop arguing with each other.

The bus stops infront of my house. I grab my bags and got off the bus.

"Bye Sweet Cheeks!" Jake blew a kiss as he pop his head out of the bus window and because of that Serena hit him in the head.

"Bye Skye! See you in school." Serena shouted as the bus starts to leave.

"Okay, see you." I waved back at her before the bus finally left.

*

I was about to open the door when someone else did from the inside and it was my 5 year old little brother, Nate.

"Hi there." I greeted him with a smile. His eyes immediately widens and started to yell at Dad who was probably at the kitchen.

"Daddy, daddy!" He continues. "Skye is here!" I kneeled to give him a proper hug, which made him jump to my arms longingly. "I missed you Skye!" He buried his face on the crook of my neck.

"I miss you too buddy." I tighten my arms as I give him the hug.

"Welcome back Baby Girl." Dad said as he emerges from the kitchen, he's wiping his hands clean at his apron.

I pulled away from Nate and walk to my dad to give him a hug. "Hi Dad."

He automatically engulf me in his arms. His familiar old spice scented body wash entered my nostrils, I somehow missed that over the top smell. "How was camp?" Dad asked me.

"It was fun." I said smiling as I slowly pull myself away. "It was the most fun camp experience I had in a long time."

"I'm happy you feel that way." He pinches my nose. "Come, I made some snacks to welcome you." He lead Nate and I to the kitchen.

"Really?" I excitedly ask.

"Of course." He assure us to the kitchen.

"By the way dad, where's mom?" I asks looking as we enter the kitchen. The smell of baking cookies immediately welcomes me, my eyes quickly darted to the lit oven that the cookies are being cooked.

"The bake shop. She needed to look at the new delivered machines." He explains and at the same time the oven beeps, indicating that the cookies are already cooked. He takes the cookies out the oven. "Who wants cookies? Gosh it's hot!" He almost drops the tray of cookies.

"Careful!" I said chuckling as I held my hand to help but  pulled it away as I remember that it was hot.

"Yummy! Where's the Whipped Cream?" Nate being cute and demanding at the same time.

Dad and I shared the same expression as we look at Nate admiring the fresh baked cookies. "I'll get it." I took the Whipped cream out the fridge and gave it to him.

"Thank you." He said even though he practically snatch it in my hands.

Dad ruffling Nate's hair as the boy made the tallest swirl of whipped cream on his cookie. "I'll call your mother and tell her that you're already here." He takes his phone from his apron's front pocket.

"Okay." I nodded and taking a cookie for myself.

"Good!" Nate happily munching on his cookies. He even made some smudges on his face front the whipped cream.

"Slow down." I said looking at my brother putting cookies after cookies in his mouth.

"Hurry! So dod woll mike sowe ore!" He couldn't barely speak with his mouth full.

Dad turn around and saw the now empty tray. "What happen?" Dad ask with eyes in wide shock. Nate giggles as he swallowed the last of all the cookies. "You!" Dad pointed at Nate that made him giggle even more. He started to tickling him.

"Please stop!" Nate laughing trying to push dad's hands away. I only shook my head smiling at the two boys in front of me.

"Fine, I'll just make some more. I can't believe you ate all of that and your mom will be home soon." He said taking a bowl from the cabinet.

I push myself off of the counter chair. "I'll just unpack." I told him.

"Okay, I'll call you when your mom's home." Dad said and I walked up to my room. I drop my bags on the floor and excitedly took my phone from my bedside table drawer. I wanted to finally talk to Vanessa and ask her how's her vacation. I tap on her contact to video call her.

Ring.
Ring.
Ring.

"Hi!" I said waving on the camera screen as she appeared on the other line.

"Hey!" She said with half of her face showing on the screen.

"I just got back from the camp. You know that phones are not allowed, so I couldn't get in touch." I said flopping onto my bed. "Gosh, this bed is so much more comfortable than we have at camp."

"It's fine." She was now holding it too near on her face as she giggles.

"Are you okay?" I ask trying to get her attention. "Am I interrupting something?" I heard a couple of voices from the background.

She places the phone properly showing off her now sun-kissed skin. "Actually yes, I'll just see you when I get back."

"O-" before I can even finish my two-letter response she ended the call.

I tossed my phone on a pillow and sat back up looking at my unpacked luggage. I groan as I drag my feet to start unpacking.

After finishing and putting the dirty laundry for washing. I hop in the shower for a well deserved long bath. Being in camp limits your daily showering session, because shower rooms are limited making a lot of people wait in line. I dried my body and head over my closet, put on a white oversized shirt and pink ice cream printed leggings. "Comfy." I mumbled to myself.

I walked down the stairs and saw mom closing the front door just in time. I run towards her to give her a hug that she quickly returned.

"Welcome back!" Mom giggles from my gesture.

"I missed you." I said as I bury my face and indulge in her strawberry scent perfume.

"I missed you too." She kisses my cheek. Dad walked out of the kitchen holding Nate in his arms.

"Family Hug!" Dad exclaims and engulfs us all in a big bear hug. I giggled from his action.

"I missed you all!" I said happy to be back home.
