The Funeral

I stare out the window of my aunt's white mini van, watching the scenery whizz by. The thick forest of trees turns into desert as we drive south. My eyes begin to tear up when I remember why me and my younger brother were spending "quality time" with my aunt. The crash only happened a few weeks ago. My parents were taking my grandmother to the new nursing home she would be staying in. A drunk driver came speeding towards them. My mom froze at the wheel. My dad had broken out of his state of shock and was yelling at my mom to turn. The yelling was pointless. My mom didn't even flinch. Eventually the car hit my mom's and stole the lives of my three most favorite people in the world. My brother Noah and I were too young to loose our parents. I'm 17 and he's 15. Now we're going to their funeral. My family's kinda cheap and decided to combine the funerals. Since my parents didn't leave a will, only my grandmother's wishes will be fulfilled. The van suddenly screeches to a halt and I peel my eyes from the window and force myself to look at Noah. He is a mess. I'm sure that I don't look much better but I unbuckle both of us and make an effort to comfort him. As soon as I awkwardly rest my hand on his back, Noah falls into my lap and bawls. I make an attempt to stay strong for the sake of my brother but a few tears slide through the dam that's trying to keep my cheeks dry. I'm not only mourning the death of my parents with these tears but I'm also crying because sometimes people drive when they're drunk and then hurt innocent people. I'm crying because I'm worried about what will happen to Noah and I. My selfish rich girl of an aunt won't take custody of us and neither will any of my other relatives. We might have to-

"Makenna! Noah! Get over here right now!" my aunt yelled clearly annoyed with us. To her Noah and I are a burden that will be lifted off of her shoulders today. I sit Noah up and dry his tear - stained face after wiping my own.

"It's time," I tell him

"Fine," he manages "Do I have to Makenna?"

" Of corse you do!" I tell him. "And we both have to do it right now!" I lead him out of the car and prepare myself for an emotional trip down memory lane.
