Too many people died from wars, illnesses, disasters...... and suicide. Jumadeung was busy. Among these collected souls, those committed murdering, unless the killings were out of patriotic defenses, were all sentenced to Hell. In Ryeon 's time, suicide was an intentional murdering of self. It was crime.
Jade Empress was one of the Gods from Haven. Eternal joy & peace in Haven, was like retirement, kinda dull. She said Continuity Theory said working was wholesome to her well-being. She was appointed the head of Jumadeung , the gateway for lived souls, the place to prepare them for next life, to train the talented ones working as reapers , and also to sentence the criminals to Hell.

In ancient time, management system was poor. One could hardly expect superb efficiency. Jumadeung was always crowded with lived souls. On her desk was often irksome stack of discree.

Strategically, the Hell sentence could be speedy given to evict the criminals. Whenever the cause of death was suicide, the discree was stamped "Go to Hell"!

Jade Empress was not comfortable with this way of handling. She thought every suicidal case was worthy of her scrutiny. She remembered Goo Ryeon, a case she had studied seriously.

However, reviewing the law, the policy would take unknown period of time.

It was daily routine of hellman to take the sentenced souls away from Jumadeung.

Hades, was used to the wailing, snotty souls, their roarings , except that woman in agony. Messy long hairs, on her small face was pair of  almond eyes, nose with little mole, chapped thin lips. Her silence pulled him walking besides her during the escort.

“Goo Ryeon! Deserting your family by killing yourself! " Hades tested her.

Seemingly awake from her sense of existential nullity, she uttered,   “ I love them. ”

“ This is your way of showing love?”

“ I have to! ”

“But you abandoned all hope, you who enter the Hell! ”

“Is your talking part of my punishment? ”

“ Will see! ”

Head of Hell sentenced Ryeon to eternal walking, to hearing the wailing of those loving her in land of living.

In hundred years, Jumadeung had successfully set up an appeal court for criminals filing against the sentence. Those already imprisoned in Hell could also make the appeal, but deadline applied.

It was closed to deadline, Jade Empress noticed that there was no application from Goo Ryeon. She went to Hell to meet her in person.

Ryeon decided not to. She said her death hurt her husband and father too much to deserve any redemption .

Hades married  with God Alice. He continued with his work in Hell and was promoted to Head of Hell. His wife stayed in Haven. Every weekend, he returned to home in Haven to enjoy couple living.

He remembered Goo Ryeon. But she had no memory that they met before.

“Criminal of suicide, Goo Ryeon! ”

“…”

“I am reviewing the punishment you have been receiving, and...... stand up, look at me”

The same face 100 years ago.

Ryeon dropped her head, eyes pinning towards the ground.

“ I want to listen to your repentance ! Any? ”

“ I am not asking for anything. I don't need  my remorse to be listened .”

Shocked by her unfriendliness, Hades asserted his authority, “There is punishment, even worse than the one you are having. You   will lose your memory, your mind. You will endlessly feel pain without knowing why, even no chance of regrets ... ”

  Feeling his intimidation, she refuted,  “Why so? ”

“Hey, this is Hell! Do you think you have right to ask for reason? ”

“…”

“I shall put you under my direct observation first. ”

Hades walked close to her, his fingers holding her chin. "You are going to take care of my workplace, the hygiene stuff.”
