I could feel my iPhone ringing and Matteo's name slide across the screen. I wiped my tears as I stepped out onto the porch, clicking the button to answer the call with wet fingers.

Matteo answered the phone with a cheery tone. "Hey, baby. I'm leaving a morning class and wanted to come see you. I want to take you out on a–"

I cut him off, my voice hoarse as I cried into the phone. "Can you please come and get me? Please?"

"Tosh? What's wrong? Baby, are you crying? What happened?" Matteo's tone changed immediately and concern was evident.

"Can you just hurry? Please, I'm–I'm....I can't do this right now...I just can't..." I cried continuously, my words becoming hard to make out as I spoke.

"Alright, baby. It's alright. Where are you right now? I'm coming but send me your location. I'm coming." My cries were causing him to become frantic and I could tell by the displacement of his voice. But his concern was needed to allow me to know that at least someone cared. Someone could be listening ear to me right now. Someone could be a safe space for me to have as an outlet to express my darkest and deepest emotional trials.

So I waited for him on the porch, in the chilly weather, with tears pouring from my face and a broken heart.
