Chapter 7: HoCo

AN: Penelope's dress is blue, and Sue's is black and purple. Let me know if you can't see it!

September 14:

Penelope:

"Hi Mrs. Heck, I'm here for Sue." I tell her on Friday, Homecoming day. "We have a hair appointment."

"Hi Penelope." Mrs. Heck says, "Come in, Sue has been so excited. Where are you guys going for your hair appointment?"

"It's over in-"

"Penelope, are you ready? Can we go now?" Sue races in her Homecoming dress in it's bags and her other bag filled with her jewelry, and her shoe box. We're getting ready at my house. Sue doesn't wait for an answer, but continues out the door to where Sam is waiting in his jeep. I watch Sam's eyes widen in terror and try not to laugh. He has no idea what he signed up for. Sue flies into the back seat with her things.

"Sure." I turn around to head to the jeep after Sue.

"Penelope." Axl's voice is a bit hesitant.

"Yes?" I ask turning back to the house.

"Axl, leave us alone." Sue calls back. "We're going to be late!"

"It's a walk in Sue." I hear Sam explain.

"Do you have a date to the homecoming dance?"

"I'm hoping this isn't you asking me to the dance."

"Pft. What? No, of course not." He says blowing his hair out of his face.

"Well I've got to go," I awkwardly turn walk away.

"Yeah, totally."

"But to answer your question. No." I walk to Sam's car and climb in the back with Sue. "Are you excited?"

She squeals in response. Sam's shoulders tense I put a hand on his shoulder and he relaxes, slightly. The ride consisted of light conversation between the three of us.

"What did Rock Man want?" Sam asks when Sue and I get out of his jeep.

"I'm not sure, but it kinda sounded like he wanted to be my date for the dance. I said no. It was weird." Sam doesn't say anything but nods acknowledging he heard me. "Thanks for doing this Sam, I really do appreciate it."

"I'll see you in a bit Penny." He gives a smile and drives away. Sue drags me inside where we get pampered for a few hours.

###

"You look beautiful." Sterling tells Sue. "You too Penelope."

"Thanks Sterling." I tell him fixing my skirt once more. "Sue, why don't you and Sterling head to your place, I'm sure you parents want pictures." She nods excitedly and drags Sterling out.

"Ready Penny?" Sam asks fixing his tie. I smile with a nod. Will and Michael both walk into the parlor with their own suits on.

"Look at you, all grown up now." Andy's voice throws me off guard.

"Andy!" I gleefully throw myself into his arms. "I'm so happy you're here."

"Picture." He says, he holds out his phone, "Sibling photo." The four of them surround me and Andy takes the picture. "New profile picture."

"Me too, how else can I show of my awesome brothers?"

@APennyofGrace: I happen to have four amazing brothers who will dress up with me for a dance, or come home for me. Love you boys!

"We love you too Penny." Sam says hugging me after reading his notification. "Now let's get this show on the road."

The three boys and I head to Orson High where the football stadium is already starting to get crazy.

"I'll see you after the game, okay?" Sam asks. I give a nod and walk with Michel and Will to the bleachers. Sam makes his way to the locker room.

"There you are," a teacher pulls me aside and puts me on the back of a car, a nice convertible, what?

"Ma'am," I try to speak to her. "I think you have me mixed up with someone else."

She doesn't listen but leaves me.

"Hello Miss." The driver greets me, "My name is -"

"Homecoming Queen is-"

"Penny?" Sam looks at me confused as he stands on the field. I give him a confused shrug. He smiles laughing you himself. "Only you Penny." He mouths to me. I shrug again and see Will and Michael in the stands looking just as confused as Sam and I. Will gives me his signature "what the hay" look. Michael gets on his phone and not a minute later.

Michael: What are you doing Pen-Pen?

I look back at him. I shake my head. "I don't know what's going on! O_O" I answer his text still freaking out about it all.

"Miss Penelope Lancaster!" The stadium pauses confusion fills the air. Michael cheers and before long everyone is cheering for me, a complete stranger. They give me a crown and a bouquet of flowers, flowers which I have to decline due to my allergy to roses. I tell them to give the flowers to Sue. She happily joins me on the stage they set up accepting the roses with a smile, she looking like she might burst from her excitement, I shift away from her to stop from sneezing.

"Your guess is as good as mine Sammy." I tell him as he spins me out onto the dance floor. "I was going to sit down with Michael and Will when they stopped me. I thought I was in trouble, I didn't know they were going to give me a crown."

"You and Michael have the strangest luck." Sam laughs, as we look over to our brother, the homecoming king, dancing with the runner-ups.

"I feel bad for whoever this was supposed to be." I tell him as Will cuts in.

"Hi Penny Perfect." He greets me with a grin. "How does being royalty feel?"

"Underserved." I tell him, "I didn't do anything to earn this, we literally just got here a few months ago. There are girls here that have been working and dreaming of this for years. I like being behind the scenes but now it feels like I'm in the middle of the spotlight."

"Being in the spotlight is my job," Michael says coming over, "May I?" Will bows out and I dance with the last of my brothers that's here. "You look beautiful Penny."

"Thanks Mickey." I tell him as he twirls me. "You make quite the king."

"And you my lovely sister, make the most beautiful queen to walk the country."

I hear Sue's excite scream as she comes over.

"Hey Nellie," Sterling greets, "May I cut in?"

Michael nods and takes Sue for a spin. "Don't ask what I think your thinking. I have no idea."

"You walked in and then suddenly are given the crown?" He asks.

"Believe it, don't believe it, its true." I tell him. "My brother, Michael, has this kind of luck all the time."

"And you?" He asks.

"Not usually, but it's not uncommon."

"Just not this kind of luck." Sterling finishes the sentence.

"Yeah, usually my luck encompasses grades and finding things."

"I see, so if I were to ask where my-"

"Sorry to cut in, but we need pictures of the homecoming court for the yearbook." A student comes up to us, he holds up a camera. "Is that okay?"

"Of course, let me go grab my brother."

"We're in the hallway." The photographer says. He walks away.

"Mickey, photos." I tell him Sterling takes Sue to get drinks as Michael and I head to find the photography station. After countless pictures we're finally done. I'm ready to head home, but if the boys want to stay, I won't object.

"Ready to go boys?" Sam asks. Michael and Will both nod. "Penny?"

"Honestly, that sounds great." I answer stifling a yawn.

"Then lets head home." The four of us head out to his jeep and ride home in comfortable quiet.
