Chapter 21

"I can't do it anymore" Amara whined to Barbara, it had been a few days without seeing Damian, 4 to be exact. They had patrols but scheduled them far away so they wouldn't have the temptation to hug or kiss or anything relationship like.

"It's just withdrawal symptoms you'll get over it in a couple of days" Barbara brushed it off continuing to dry off the plates Amara had just washed, "now you'll have time to make new friends" Amara frowned "I like the friends I have" Barbara rolled her eyes, "you need to go out and make friends on your own, normal friends outside the superhero life" She put away the last plate before turning to her pouting sister.

"And how do you expect me to do that?" She asked, "you're going to school" Amaras jaw dropped as she stared at her sister, "you're joking, please say you're joking" Barbara laughed at her fear.

"Mom, Dad and I think it would be good for your social skills to go to school, Tim still goes there, so does Steph and Damian" she tried to persuade her even if she didn't have a choice to begin with.

"Right, be in a school, with my boyfriend who I have to stay away from, the one who's the reason I have to stay away and a stranger I barely know" she'd seen Stephanie a couple of times but hadn't really had the chance to properly get to know her.

"Exactly what could go wrong?"

Next Day

Amara groaned as her alarm clock had gone off, she'd been awake since 5 am to do her early morning work out, it was now 7:15, she had just gotten out of the shower and was seriously considering running away she barely had one leg out the window before Barbara burst into her room and forcefully dragged her back in.

"Change now, Just accept it Mari you're going" Barbara told her as she stood by the window forcing her sister to change into the new uniform that was laid out on her chair.

Once she was changed Barbara had done her hair and put on some light make up, she may not have been one to care much about appearances but she also didn't like people seeing her acne.

Barbara brought her down stairs where breakfast was already set out on the table, Nadia had completely overcompensated with the pancakes, waffles and eggs. "Mama please don't make me go" she pleaded her mother knowing her father ignored everything when he's reading the morning paper.

"I'm sorry love but you need to know what it's like to be normal" Amara groaned "and I'm gonna learn that by being surrounded by obnoxious rich kids?" Nadia smiled at her daughters dramatics wishing her a good day before she had left to find a new job.

"You'll be fine, I bet everyone will be dying to make friends with you" Jim smiled at his youngest daughter patting her head as he too left for work.

Amara had a bowl of fruit and some yogurt before she was dragged out the door standing just outside their building. "Why are we waiting? Weren't you going to take me?" She turned to her older sister in confusion.

"I was gonna but I kinda have to go to work so Alfred's taking you" just as the words left her mouth the familiar sight of the sleek black limo pulled up.

She didn't say anything as she stepped inside, Damian and Tim sat on opposite sides with Stephanie besides Tim.

She sighed pulling her skirt lower to at least cover some of her thigh. "Hey" she muttered sadly already regretting she was caught trying to run away for the second time.

"I'm gonna need you guys to watch out for her" Barbara told them, "of course we'll look after her" Stephanie grinned, "no I mean keep an eye on her she tried running away from home twice already I don't want her to do a runner at school" Tim looked at Amara curiously but all she did was huff out a breath.

"You should've let me go" was all she said before Alfred had started driving. "It's not all bad" Stephanie tried to light up the tension.

"It's horrible, I'm gonna be alone and I won't talk to anyone, I barely talked to any of you when I first met you" she complained. "It's true she mostly was threatening to end my life for the first few weeks until the pact" Tim told the blonde beside him.

"Im gonna die or I'm gonna kill someone" she grumbled before she felt as hand subtly slip into hers, her eyes quickly side eyed the green eyed boy beside her who didn't look at her as he sent her a reassuring squeeze.

"You'll be fine, if you're not just find any of us" Damian told her, "we may have to stay away from each other but that doesn't mean we can't talk as friends" he said glancing at Tim to make sure it wasn't against the rules, not like he would care, he wouldn't dare leave Amara to fend for herself in that hellhole they call school.

It wasn't long til they had arrived, some people were gathered around the vehicle as if waiting for their arrival.

Tim and Stephanie had stepped out together, Damian following with Amara leaving last. Her eyes couldn't help but wonder at all the people staring at her and whispering to their friends. Why did she have to be friends with the rich ones? She thought to herself.

Damian had showed her to the front office, where she had gotten her schedule, thankfully most of her classes were with Damian, she had a few advanced classes which she shared with Tim and Stephanie, surprisingly someone had signed her up for music club, it's like they want her to expose herself.

Damian had eventually gone to his home room whilst she had to wait for the tour guide to show her her locker and classrooms.

It took a few minutes until a brunette came, he had a tall lanky frame, his eyes were a light brown matching his sandy brown hair.

"Hi I'm Evan Jacobs, nice to meet you" he held his hand out to Amara who watched him skeptically before accepting "Amara.. Gordon" it took a while for her to get used to it but she slowly accepted the identity of being a Gordon of Gotham.

"The commish's daughter?" He asked and Amara nodded not one to talk. He ignored the silence and began the tour showing her classes, wear to eat lunch giving her the basic rundown and common history of the school. It took a couple minutes but felt like a lifetime to her.

Lastly they made their way to her locker where she punched in her code careful to not let him see. She put her books down and took out the one she'd need for her lessons until lunch.

Evan seemed nice despite her brushing him off constantly, she knew it was rude but she couldn't help the coldness of the way she acted to people she didn't trust.

"This is your current class, Miss Morgan's nice don't worry" he grinned tapping lightly on the door, "hey Miss Morgan, I've got a new student for you" he told the fairly young woman, she seemed to be somewhere between her early and mid twenties with short blonde locks and deep blue eyes.

"Of course come in, Miss... Gordon, it's nice to meet you" Amara stepped in she hated all the eyes on her but sent a smile towards the teacher none the less. Her eyes met Damian's who smiled at her reassuringly giving her a little confident boost.

"Hi" she muttered back softly, "why don't you tell us a bit about yourself and then find a seat" Amara dreaded this, having to talk about herself, let strangers know about herself, luckily the perfect thing popped into her head. "My names Amara and I hope this won't be as hellish as people say it is" she ignored the giggles and murmurs going on around her as she made her way to the back of the class, Damian moved the bag off the seat beside him to let her sit down.

"I hope this won't be as hellish as people say it is?" He mocked her and she nudged him with her foot "I wasn't going to talk about myself" for the rest of the lesson she and Damian had sent notes back and forth seemingly ignoring the outside world.

She could survive a day in high school if she tried, right?
