chapter twenty

"I'm sorry for coming over here like this, but you weren't answering any of our calls or texts and we were all worried. I didn't know what else to do." I sighed and sat on the edge of Daniel's bed. I tried to stay calm and nicer after everything Christian had just told me. He stood in front of me, holding onto his towel and wiped the dripping pieces of hair away from his face. I tried so hard not to keep my attention on his body for too long.

Daniel walked over to his nightstand and opened the drawer. He pulled out his phone, the screen shattered.

"I-I got mad last night and threw it. It won't even turn on. I'm sorry I was going to get a new one today. I thought you'd still be in Florida with Aedan." Daniel sat next to me on the edge. I was so intimidated by the fact that he was still only wearing a towel. "Why aren't you in Florida? Did something happen?"

"What I'm about to tell you... You seriously cannot tell anyone Daniel. Like I'm serious." I sighed and looked up at him. His blue eyes were so light with the sun shining on them.

"Of course, you know you can tell me anything." Daniels hand snaked into mine, interlacing our fingers. The subtle physical connection made my heart race.

"Well first, when I got there Aedan didn't even pick me up from the airport. It was some girl named Rayven he'd been apparently dating all tour and failed to tell me. And then when I got there, I caught him doing... stuff." I didn't want to say it, I hoped Daniel would just get the hint so I wouldn't have to say it out loud.

"What 'stuff', Malia?"

"Drugs. I walked in on him sorting lines, and a couple of weeks ago when I called him and he was high off of pills, and then Rayven mentioned him drinking, and..." I stood up, reality sinking in deeply. My brother was turning into everything he tried so hard not be. My brother wasn't himself anymore.

"Malia, come here." Daniel stood after me and pulled me into his arms. His damp skin was warm and comforting, especially since Daniel was almost a whole foot taller than me. "I'm sorry you had to witness that. Aedan is such a good person, and he's got so much ahead of him. Maybe he's just going through something internal and he thinks that's his only way out of it. The best thing you can do is be there and help him get through it."

I looked up at him, his blue eyes staring back down at me.

"I know about Amelia. Christian told me before I came up here." The words slipped from my mouth. Daniels face dropped and his eyes turned away from me. I reached up to his face and placed my hands to his cheek, making him look at me. "I know that's what you're doing. And I want you to know I would never do anything to hurt you or put you in that position."

Daniel didn't say a word. He sat in silence for a moment before reaching down and placing his lips onto mine. This kiss was so unlike the others we've had. The others were always so quick and in the moment, but this one felt so right. It was passionate, full of everything we both needed.

Daniel slowly backed up and sat on the edge of his bed again, never once parting our lips. He pulled me down so I was sitting on his lap. I knew it was such a weird time to pursue anything with Daniel, but it felt so right. I didn't want to stop.

I took matters into my own hands and trailed my lips from his and down his neck. I trailed my finger down his bare abdomen, feeling the chills go up his body under my touch. Daniels hands gripped onto my hips as I moved away and went to reconnect our lips.

"A-are you sure you want to do this? I-I don't have anything on me," Daniels voice was soft and different, something I'd never heard from him before. He looked down at himself, signaling 'anything' meant protection.

"I got it covered." I pointed to my arm where the small birth control stick laid inside. Daniel smirked and licked his lips before pressing them onto mine.
