"What is taking Bellamy so long?" Monty complained, hiding a pole behind his back.

The remaining forty-three kids each had a ladder rung or a post from the bunks. They all stood facing the doors, shoulder to shoulder as they waited. Jasper and Delaney stood on either side of Monty, both of them looking at him.

"Maybe he got caught," Jasper suggested.

"Don't even say that. He knows what he's doing, Jasper." Delaney complained. "He'll find a way out. I know it."

"It's been four hours and we haven't seen him since."

"He and Maya are working on it, I told you."

"They're gonna take someone else," Harper whispered.

"No! Everyone listen to me. We stick to the plan. They are not taking anyone else from this room without a fight."

"Here they come!" Miller yelled after Jasper finished. He ran away from the door, jumping in line right next to Delaney. She handed him his pole behind his back and he took it just before the doors opened.

Dr. Tsing led her guards into the room, her eyes scanning the rows. The front row all linked arms, hiding their weapons in back pockets as they created a wall. The guards shouted for them to get back but all seven of them held a defiant look as they stood their ground.

Dr. Tsing walked right up to the front row, her eyes locked with Monty. She smiled. "This one."

"No. No!" Jasper yelled.

Delaney and Jasper cut Monty out of the chain, linking up ahead of him. They and the rest of the front row held strong, pushing the soldiers back. When they pulled out batons the link broke and the poles were pulled out from behind everyone's backs.

The guards grabbed Monty, pulling him away. Delaney snatched the gun out of the back of Jasper's pants.

"Let him go!" She pulled the trigger.

The guard stumbled back, holding his shoulder in pain. Everything went silent for a moment as everyone looked at each other. Then the guards turned toward the group of kids, hitting them with their batons and shoving them down.

The kids retaliated with their poles, smacking guards and jabbing them with the ends. The guard that Delaney shot tried to knock her gun away. She wasn't too familiar with the weapon, but she didn't let it go. Instead, she reversed the momentum, swinging the butt of the pistol into his helmet. It knocked him off balance long enough for her to kick out one of his legs and send him to the ground.

A nearby guard pushed one of the other kids into Delaney, knocking them both down. The gun skidded away from her and the guards beat everyone else back.

Dr. Tsing stepped forward, pointing at Delaney. "Take her instead."

"Don't touch me!" She yelled, scrambling out from under the other kid. She thrashed, kicking at the guards and trying to fight back as they each grabbed an arm. It was no use. The guards took Delaney with them, holding her captive. She couldn't help but think that at least she'd find out where the basement was.

They stopped at the elevator, the woman giving orders to her guards to prep Delaney as soon as they got down there. Delaney's anger started to melt away as red spots appeared on the doctor's face. The guards slowly let go of her, sinking to the ground as the elevator doors opened.

Delaney grabbed a baton, putting it in-between the doors of the elevator to keep it from closing. She turned to find her friends when the doctor grabbed onto her ankle.

Delaney shook her head. She brought her other foot down on the doctor's wrist, seething at her. "You are lucky I'm saving you for my friends."

She landed a kick to the doctor's head, knocking her out, before grabbing a gun and running down the hall.

The doors were still open as Delaney stopped in front of them. Her recuperating friends looked up, shocked expressions covering their faces. She pointed down the hall, calling for everyone to grab their things and get out. Jasper threw Delaney her backpack as the kids started flooding into the hall. Delaney led them back to the elevator.

By the time they reached the elevator, the doctor was inside and the doors were closing. Delaney boarded, stopping the doctor from descending. She shook her head at the doctor as Monty and Harper joined her.

"I hope you know you're incredibly special to us." Monty mocked her. She screamed, crying as the radiation continued destroying her body. After she was dead Delaney, Monty, and Harper stepped into the hall as Jasper started taking charge.

"Take the floor! Monty, cameras! Secure the dining hall and the rooms!" Jasper yelled. As soon as he gave instructions everyone followed, few picking up the weapons off the guards as they passed.

Within a few minutes, the whole level was cleared. They had barricaded the stairways that lead to lower levels and put two chairs in between the doors of the elevator to keep them from closing. Monty was able to reroute the cameras to show on the tablet he had stolen instead of the monitors in the security room. Things were looking up for the kids. They were fighting back.

"We've taken the level! Now we have to hold it!" Jasper turned to Delaney, nodding. "We need weapons. You're the best at that kind of thing."

"You got it." Delaney turned, dodging other kids until she made it to the kitchen.

She could hear Jasper telling people to take out the cameras and barricade doors in the hallway. Delaney pulled open drawers in the kitchen, gathering knives and anything else that could do some damage. She dumped them onto a table in the main dining hall. Instantly kids ran to grab them. She returned to the kitchen, spotting a fire ax on the wall. Delaney smiled and broke the glass with a pot sitting on the counter. She grabbed the ax, swinging it around to get a feel for the weapon.

Delaney ran back to the main dining room when an explosion sounded. Everyone stopped moving, their breaths bated as Monty watched the security cameras.

"We aren't ready." Fox went up to Jasper, fear shaking her voice.

"We've never been more ready. We'll win. I promise." Jasper gave her a reassuring smile.

"Look. No guns." Delaney pointed as she looked over Monty's shoulder.

"It's because they can't kill us."

"Some of them aren't wearing hazmat suits." Miller chimed in.

"What does that mean?"

"It means the bone marrow treatments worked," Jasper answered Delaney.

Pounding sounded on the barricaded doors. Everyone turned to them, waiting for Jasper's orders. The guards demanded the doors to be opened, but none of the kids moved to do so.

"Everybody get ready!"

The banging on the door continued, getting louder. The furniture blocking the doors shook, threatening to tumble with every push. Delaney shook her head, holding the ax at the ready. The only thing she needed was some war paint; then it would be a true battle.

The doors opened. Red smoke bombs flew into the room, just like Jasper said. He was the first to pick one up, covering his mouth as he dropped it in a bucket of water. The others followed, picking up the other two smoke bombs and dousing them in the other buckets.

"Everybody down," Jasper whispered, dropping to the ground as if the gas had worked. Delaney covered her face and sprawled on the floor, her ax hidden below her.

She could hear the furniture tumble down as the soldiers came in. She held back on opening her eyes and giving everyone away. She was waiting for Jasper's signal, just like they had decided when they took the place.

Delaney heard it. Three taps on the floor. They all got up, everyone hearing Jasper's signal in the quiet room. Delaney rolled onto her back, swinging her ax at the man that stood right above her. She caught his arm, slicing it off below the elbow. Delaney pulled the ax back then thrust it up with both hands, embedding it in the guard's chest. When she pulled it out he fell. Delaney got to her feet.

Delaney ducked as a guard came after her. She swung the ax low, slicing at his ankles. When he fell a kid standing nearby started stabbing him with his knife, finishing him off. Delaney gave Henry a nod before turning to find another soldier.

Guns fired, knocking soldiers down or at least holding most of them back. For each soldier, there were two or three kids fighting them back. Delaney smiled then ran and pulled a guard off of Fox. The scared redhead plunged her knife into the fallen guard's neck. Delaney gave her a proud smile and pulled Fox to her feet.

"Retreat! Retreat!" One of the guards sounded, turning to run toward the door.

The kids chased them out, catching a few more before they could leave. Once the guards were back out the way they had come the kids erupted into cheers.

"We did it!" Jasper yelled, getting more cheers in response.

They cut down as screams came from the hall. Delaney, Jasper, and Monty looked to the tablet, seeing Fox getting dragged by two guards.

Monty and Miller stopped Jasper from going after her. They weren't quick enough to stop Delaney.

"Fox!" Delaney called, sprinting into the hall. She got to the staircase door just before it closed, pushing inside.

A guard was waiting just inside the door. His fist beat down on Delaney's head, knocking her off balance. She swung the ax at him, but she was slow and uncoordinated after the blow. He grabbed it and knocked her over the head once more, taking Delaney and Fox both down to the basement.

Delaney blinked away the pain in her head. She fought off unconsciousness, shaking her head and trying to keep her eyes open. As she regained all her senses she saw Fox ahead of her, struggling against the two guards. There were two on Delaney, too. She looked at each of them, pulling her arms back roughly as she tried to break free. She dug the heels of her boots down against the concrete floor. If it were anything else she'd have at least a little bit of traction, but the smooth concrete just aided the guards.

"Let go! Let us go!" Delaney yelled, thrashing and twisting as they neared a doorway. Fox screamed as they passed one of their friends. Alastair was lying dead on a table. They didn't even bother to cover him up or close his eyes.

Tears pricked Delaney's eyes as she fought harder, sinking to the ground and trying to take out the guard's legs.

"Stop struggling!" One of them yelled, roughly pulling her up.

Fox got away from her captors, running back toward Delaney. Both of the guards on the blonde let go to stop Fox. Delaney grabbed fox, kicking one of the guard's legs out. The other grabbed Delaney.

Fox didnt get a chance to run as the guard on the ground pulled his gun. He stood up with a slight limp as Fox raised her hands. Without even a second of hesitation, he aimed toward Delaney, pulling the trigger. She flinched, ducking down. She hadn't been the target, though. The guard that was holding her fell as two more gunshots went off.

Fox hugged Delaney, helping her up in the process. The guard took his helmet off but Delaney already knew who it was.

"Bellamy!" Fox gasped, hugging him.

"Are you two alright?" He asked, pulling himself out of Fox's embrace. Delaney took her turn, letting her nerves die down as she hugged Bellamy.

"Are you okay?" She asked, looking down at his leg. "If I would've known you were the one escorting me down here I wouldn't've kicked you."

"I'll just tell everyone my plan then, next time. Even the enemies. Look–" he stopped mid-lecture as Maya came in. "You two need to come with us. We'll get you somewhere safe."

"It's safe on level five. We've taken over the whole level." Delaney countered as they followed Maya anyway.

"Look, if we can spread you all out, it won't be as easy to capture some of you. Trust me. Please." Maya pleaded.

They got to level three, sneaking into one of the homes. Maya's dad was laying on the couch. She went to talk to them as Fox, Delaney, and Bellamy snuck in. They didn't do that good of a job as Maya's dad instantly got up, looking at Bellamy and the other two.

"What are they doing here, Maya?"

"We just need somewhere safe, Dad. Please, let me explain."

"I'll let you explain how he got that uniform."

"This is what Mom would have wanted, Dad. You know she hated the trials."

"And you know how dangerous this is. We can't keep them here." He looked over the three fugitives. "I need you to leave."

"We can't do that." Bellamy stepped forward, hand on his gun.

"It's okay. He's gonna help us."

"Really? I'm not really getting that message." Delaney crossed her arms

"My parents were part of a movement to refuse outsider blood. My mom refused treatment and it killed her." Maya explained.

"I can't leave you, Maya. And if you get caught–"

"They won't if you help us. Please."

"Please, sir. They're killing us. We have nowhere else to go." Fox joined in.

"One night. Nobody else." Maya's dad set his jaw, showing that he wasn't up for any discussion.

Maya took it. She led Fox and Delaney back to where her bedroom was. Delaney stopped following when she saw Bellamy wasn't coming.

"Where are you going?" She asked him as he went toward the door.

"I need to get the acid fog turned off," Bellamy whispered, eyeing Maya's father before looking down at Delaney.

"Just stay. Just for a few hours. Stay. Rest. The acid fog can wait." Bellamy took off his hat, running his hand through his hair. He hasn't stopped to rest since he got in.

"Clarke needs it to be taken care of so they can move in."

Delaney brought him back, following after Maya and Fox. "They can wait a few more hours. These types of things take time."

"We don't even know if they're still alive. Cage bombed TonDC. This could all be for nothing."

Bellamy sat down in a chair outside Maya's room. Delaney knelt down next to him as he put his head in his hands. "Octavia was there. What if Clarke didn't get there in time? They could all be dead."

"Clarke got there. She always pulls through, Bellamy. She and Octavia will be back in the morning giving you more commands. I promise."

Bellamy took Delaney's hand. He kissed the back of it, looking over at her. "I hope you're right, Killer."

"You don't need to hope. I'm always right. And right now I say we're going to win this. Whatever it takes."

"Whatever it takes."
