Chapter 11

The company weaved in between trees and rocks as they ran from the wargs. The sunset turned to the dark night as the wargs got closer. One of them jumped over a rock and landed right in front of Bilbo. It snarled and showed its long teeth, then charged. Bilbo took out his sword and stabbed it in the head as it ran at him. The company slashed down any warg that attacked them as they ran, but soon they were met with the edge of a cliff.

"Up into the trees! All of you! Come on, climb!" Gandalf yelled.

(Y/n) tried climbing into a tree, but she was too short to reach the first branch. She felt hands on her waist, lifting her up higher, and she grabbed the branch and pulled herself up. When she looked down, she saw Kili jumping up to grab the branch. (Y/n) looked around and saw Bilbo still trying to take his sword out of the wargs skull.

"BILBO!" she cried out. He finally yanked it out and began climbing one of the trees.

The wargs surrounded the trees and began circling them. They stopped and looked to a single warg that was carrying an orc on its back. It stepped up onto a rock for all to see him. The orc was pale and had red scars covering his body. He carried a mace in one hand, and his other had a prosthetic that jutted out from his elbow. (Y/n) saw Thorin look at the orc in shock.

Azog

Azog the Defiler sat up on his warg and smiled menacingly. He sniffed the air, and began speaking in a language that (Y/n) could not understand, Black Speech, but she caught the orc saying Thorins name.

"It cannot be" Thorin whispered.

Azog pointed his mace at Thorin and spoke, then let out a yell. The wargs immediately began to jump up the trees, scratching and biting at the trunks and branches. (Y/n) let out a shriek as the tree began to shake and tilt. The company was forced to jump on another tree, but the domino effect caused that tree to fall as well. They kept jumping until the group was confined to a single tree on the very edge of the cliff.

(Y/n) looked up to Gandalf and saw him take a pinecone and blow from his walking stick. Small embers began to appear until the pinecone was aflame. He threw it at the wargs down below, and the brush around it caught on fire. Gandalf made more flaming pinecones and dropped them to the others. (Y/n) grabbed a pinecone, and Kili brought his to hers to make it catch the flames. They all began throwing their pinecones at the wargs. They whimpered and howled at the heat, some even catching on fire. The dwarves began cheering, but then the tree they were hanging on to began to tilt.

Soon, it was on its side, barely hanging on to the cliff. Ori fell from his branch and grabbed onto Doris boot, who then fell. Gandalf quickly reached his staff out and Dori grabbed onto the end, holding on for his and Ori's life.

(Y/n) was hanging on to a weak branch, and almost fell, but quickly grabbed onto another one.

"(Y/n)!"Kili yelled when he thought she was going to fall, but relaxed as much as he could when she jumped to another branch. She looked into his brown orbs, the fear etched onto her face. He spoke to her.

"(Y/n)... if we dont make it out-"

"No, dont talk like that. Were going to make it out of here, somehow!"she interrupted.

"Listen to me! If we dont, I need to tell you... I-"

Kili was cut off when he saw the shadow of his uncle standing on the tree trunk. (Y/n) looked and saw Thorin walking off the tree, his sword ready to attack, his oaken-shield on his arm. Once back on the cliff, Thorin began to run at Azog.

The entire company looked on as Thorin raised his weapon and shield, ready to attack. Azog roared and his warg leaped from the rock, knocking Thorin to the ground. He got back up to face his enemy, but the orc charged at him and brought his mace down on Thorin.

"No!"Balin cried as he watched his king and brother get beaten.

(Y/n) had tears in her eyes. She and Bilbo stood up from their branches on the trunk. The company watched as the white warg captured Thorin in its jaws. Dwalin yelled Thorins name and tried to reach him, but his branch broke and was barely hanging on. Thorin hit his blade against the muzzle of the warg, and it threw him against the rocks.

Azog turned his head to another orc, and said something in their language. The orc got off its own warg, sword drawn, and stalked over to Thorin. It put the blade near his neck, and Thorin struggled to reach Orcrist, but it was too far out of his reach, and he was too weak. The orc raised its sword and was about to bring it down on the kings neck, but something small tackled him to the ground.

Bilbo fought the orc before driving his sword into its chest, and (Y/n) guarded Thorin from any other orcs, her sword glowing blue. Thorin passed out, and that only made (Y/n) more angry. Bilbo got up and went to join her, holding out his blade and slashing it as Azog drew nearer. The pale orc spoke to his kin on their wargs, ushering them to kill the hobbits. The wargs bared their razor sharp teeth, but got distracted when they heard a yell from beside them.

Fili, Kili, and Dwalin attacked the wargs with their weapons, slashing and stabbing the orcs and their rabid pets. (Y/n) and Bilbo both let out a yell, charging a warg in front of them. Bilbo was pushed into Azogs white wargs face, and thrown backward. (Y/n) pierced the following orc with her sword, slashed the wargs face, and finished the beast before going to help her brother.

Azog slowly inched towards Bilbo, savoring the kill, and (Y/n) ran up beside him, brandishing her sword in front of her. The orc laughed at her, his smile grotesque upon his pale face. Suddenly, the shriek of an eagle was heard. Not just one, but many giant eagles swooped down and attacked the orcs.

They grabbed the wargs and threw them off the cliff, brought down trees on them, and beat their mighty wings at the fire, causing it to go in the direction of the orcs. (Y/n) saw one eagle grab Thorin from the rocks, cradling him in their talons. The eagles grabbed the dwarves from the tree and dropped them on their backs. (Y/n) was grabbed by one of them, and dropped onto another. The feathers were soft, and she felt a presence beside her suddenly as Kili dropped from another eagles talons. She was relieved when she saw Bilbo safely on the back of an eagle. Once all the company was safe, the mighty birds flew off into the night.

(Y/n) grabbed hold of the feathers, fearing that she may fall off. She buried her face in the plumage, not wanting to look down. Kili noticed her tensing and softly grabbed her hand.

"There is no need to be afraid" Kili whispered to her "Just look up"

Slowly, and gripping onto the eagle and Kilis hand, (Y/n) lifted her head and opened her eyes to see the beautiful rising sun against the mountains. She marveled at the sight.

"You see ghivashel, the sight of the sunrise against the mountains is a wonder" he told her softly. She furrowed her eyebrows at the strange word.

"What does that mean? Ghivashel?" she asked.

"Another time" he said, watching the wind blow through her hair as it shined in the rising sun.

"Thorin! they heard Fili shout, and looked to see Thorin, unmoving, in the talons of the eagle. (Y/n) began to worry about the dwarf.

They flew over mountains and clouds, until finally they reached a large stone peak. . The eagle holding Thorin carefully set him down. The eagles let the dwarves slide off their backs and rush to their kings aid. (Y/n) and Bilbo were on the side, and they watched as Gandalf put his hand gently over Thorins face and muttered some words in another language. His eyes fluttered open, and Gandalf let out a small sigh of relief.

"The halflings?" Thorin asked, quietly.

"Its all right. Bilbo and (Y/n) are here. They're quite safe" Gandalf responded.

Thorin struggled to get up, and with the help of Kili and Dwalin, he managed. He looked at the hobbits, who were thankful he was ok.

"You!" Thorin said to the both of them "What were you two doing?"

They both frowned at this, slightly confused.

"You nearly got yourselves killed! Did I not say that you two would be a burden? That you would not survive in the wild? That you had no place amongst us?"

(Y/n) felt slightly angered at this, but didnt show it. Bilbo stood there with a sad look on his face. He finally does something, risking his life, and Thorin says these words. But what happened next shocked them both.

"I have never been so wrong in all my life" Thorin stated as he hugged the hobbits.

They both had shocked looks on their faces, before smiling and hugging him back. The dwarves cheered and smiled. Thorin pulled back from the hug and looked at the siblings.

"Im sorry I doubted you both," he said, sincerely.

"No, I wouldve doubted me too," Bilbo said. (Y/n) nodded her head in agreement.

"We're not heroes or warriors. Not even burglars!" (Y/n) said, a small smile on her face.

The company watched as the eagles began to fly away. Thorin looked behind the hobbits, and his face changed. They looked behind them at what he was seeing.

"Is that what I think it is?" Bilbo asked as the company walked to the edge of the stone.

In the distance, you could see a mountain. It was beautiful against the morning sun. (Y/n) knew what mountain this was.

"Erebor" Gandalf said "The Lonely Mountain. The last of the great dwarf kingdoms of Middle-Earth"

"Our home" Thorin said.

They heard a bird chirping, and looked to see a small bird flying towards the mountain.

"A raven! The birds are returning to the mountain" Oin exclaimed.

"That, my dear Oin, is a thrush" Gandalf corrected.

"But well take it as a sign" Thorin said "A good omen"

"Youre right. I do believe the worst is behind us" Bilbo said.

(Y/n) looked over her shoulder and saw Kili gazing at the mountain in awe. She smiled and caught his eye. He smiled right back at her, walking up a few paces to join her where she stood. He brushed his fingers against hers, and she slightly grasped onto his fingers. (Y/n) knew there and then that she indeed was falling for Kili of Durin. Little did she know, he realized that he fell for her long ago. He knew with utter surety that she was his One. He hoped that one day soon, he would call her Amrâlimê.
