Chapter 17: The Assault

Batman continued the ship's ascend, making its course towards the atmosphere. Once the blockade was in sight, the Dark Knight slowed the speed.

"That's going to be a problem. Let's see how you pull this one off." Luthor said, eyeing closely the blockade as they closed in.

The ship came to a complete stop once it stood facing the blockade. "This is Grand Guardian Cruiser. Identify yourself with your craft's registration numbers." The transmission came from the blockade's flagship.

"I'm working on it." Luthor went through the papers to find what they need. "I can't find them."

"Craft, why are you delaying to present your identification numbers?" The flagship contacted the heroes' craft once again, the tone more threatening than before. "Is there some sort of problem?"

Managing to find them, Luthor handed them over to Batman. "Here. Hurry before they blast us to hell." The bald man hurried him.

"This is Carrier TA45. Access number is O669PR52. We ask permission to enter the station." Batman made sure to reply in a calm tone.

"Carrier TA45, your arrival was scheduled for another week. What's the reason for the change?" The flagship asked, demanding an answer from the heroes' ship.

Batman and Luthor tensed, thinking of what of the worst possible scenario. The Dark Knight remained calm, wiping his brow as he read the papers in hopes of finding a reasonable excuse.

"We feared that the attack on the Blüdhaven Airfield was a plan for rebels to attempt and steal all of the cargo within the craft." The Dark Knight came up with an excuse to improvise. "We thought it'd be best for it to arrive here where it's safe."

Within the flagship, the soldier in charge of communication was approached by the commanding officer.

"Soldier, may I ask what's the delay? Why hasn't the carrier been allowed to pass through?" The commanding officer asked, looking through the glass spotting the ship meters away from the blockade.

"Sir, Carrier TA45 wasn't supposed to arrive until another week. Its cargo are provisions and fuel, and we've got more than enough." The soldier replied. "They claim it's because the rebels tried stealing the cargo nights ago."

Frowning, the commanding officer took from the soldier the intercom. "I'll take care of this, soldier." He activated it to contact the ship, unaware it's under Batman's control.

By the second, Batman and the rest of the team began to worry because of the delay. Right now, they fear the worst has come true and that it's all but a matter of seconds.

Flash walked up into the cockpit to speak with both Batman and Luthor. "We've been here the past 5 minutes waiting. What's holding us up?" The Scarlet Speedster asked as he looked at the fleet blocking their path.

"Our entry's being delayed. Possibly, we drew too much attention." Lex Luthor declared, trying his best to remain calm to the situation. "Do you think they're beginning to suspect about us?"

Batman didn't say a word only shook his head sideways. "Oh boy, if he's not saying nothing, it's bad." Flash gulped in worry.

After patiently waiting, in minutes a response came from the flagship. "I apologize for the delay, Carrier TA45. But your entry to the station has been granted. We were registering some information. Carry on."

Batman and the rest sighed in relief and proceeded their course towards the space station.

"Now that I see it, it doesn't look anything like the old Watchtower." Flash commented, observing the many details of the station. "Guess I won't regret bringing it down."

"Which is why we'll be sending it down to hell." Scandal added, making Knockout chuckle a bit. "And trust me, we've been there before. Not so nice as I thought."

The Dark Knight maneuvered the craft into the station's docking bay. Landing the ship, Batman turned it off and looked at the team.

"We'll be splitting into two groups." Batman was to divide the team in half. "Group A is Luthor, Solomon Grundy, Volcana, Vigilante, Atomic Skull, Bane and Doctor Polaris. You're to create a distraction."

"The rest are coming with me to disable the reactor and find Nightwing and Starfire." Batman's group stood by his side as Luthor and his walked towards the hatch to exit.

With the team split and everything planned, Lex Luthor opened the hatch so they can exit the ship and carry out the plan.

"Distract them long enough for me and my group to pass unnoticed." The Dark Knight said, earning a smirk from the bald man. Lex took out a pistol and led his team out.

"Make sure you don't get killed without your suit, Luthor." Batman mocked, earning an annoyed expression from the bald man. "Oh, don't worry your little feathers over me."

Luthor caught the attention of the soldiers and opened fire with his pistol. As Luthor' group caught the station's attention, Batman and his group stealthfully made their way to the reactor.

The entire station became aware of the heroes' presence as sirens went off to alert the entire facilty.

"I hate people shooting at me!" Solomon Grundy roared as he flung a soldier several feet away. He clobbered a Maurader droid and ripped its head off.

Soldiers lined up around Doctor Polaris and started shooting at him. "Fools! I'm the Master of Magnetism!" The villain yelled, holding a fist as he stopped the bullets.

In that moment, the bullets were sent back to the soldiers as Doctor Polaris killed them all with ease.

Vigilante and Volcana were back to back as they confronted the soldiers and Marauders surrounding them.

"Let's see how good you are with those, Eastwood." Claire teased, flames engulfing around her fists.

The cowboy lifted a brow, smirking beneath his bandana while aiming both his revolvers at the soldiers. "Guess I'll have to show you how it's done, darling."

In the observation room above the docking bay, Amanda Waller could see in fear the Justice League assaulting the Grand Station.

"Well, they've come after all. I assume they're here to destroy the station and rescue the brats." Waller chuckled, turning on her earpiece to communicate with the Suicide Squad.

"Task Force X, I need half of you to assemble here in the hangar. The other half is to protect our guests."

Batman, Flash, Scandal, Knockout, Huntress, Martian Manhunter, and Cyborg managed to avoid much attention thanks to Luthor's team distracting the forces long enough for them to slip away.

They treaded down a path that would lead to Nightwing and Starfire's holding cell. "At the end, there's an elevator. We go up three floors to find them." Batman notified, verifying the schematics he'd hacked into.

"But we'd have to deal with them first." Wally pointed to the soldiers heading their way.

"We'll handle it, boys." Knockout and Scandal went ahead, both smiling at one another as they charged towards their enemies.

Scandal drove her lamentation blades into a Marauder's head, ripping it from its shoulder. A soldier tried sneaking from behind but she anticipated the attack and sliced his throat.

"Not bad, poppet." Knockout lunged a punch a soldier. She twisted another's head and threw him against a Marauder.

The wives finished dealing with the last of the guards after ripping a Marauder in half. "Path's clear. Let's continue moving." Scandal dusted her hands and linked them with Knockout's.

"Good. We move." Batman took the lead, beckoning for the team to follow him as they reached the elevator at the end of the hall.

While Batman and his team ascended in the elevator, Luthor and his team had to confront the arriving Suicide Squad. The villains consisted of Livewire, Lady Vic, Clock King, Black Spider, and Man-Bat.

Man-Bat screeched as it flew towards Solomon Grundy. "Grundy not like flying rat! Grundy kill flying rat!" He roared as he grabbed Man-Bat, slamming him against the floor.

"Eeii!" Man-Bat pierced its claws into Grundy, making him wince. The bat humanoid took the chance to bite into Grundy's neck, forcing the zombie to release. "Grundy had enough!"

As Solomon Grundy tried to grab Man-Bat once again, the bat humanoid flew up and sent the zombie hurdling across the hangar after grabbing him.

Vigilante stood facing against Black Spider, who had two daggers in his hands. "Assassin wants to tussle 'round with old me? Don't know if I should be flattered." The cowboy mocked, loading his revolvers.

The assassin made no retort, making Vigilante frown. "Suit yourself." He opened fire at him. Black Spider dodged every shot and kicked the revolver out of his hand.

"Son of a bitch." Vigilante threw a punch, which Black Spider blocked and countered by striking him below the ribs.

Flying, Volcana was doing her best to avoid the bolts Livewire was throwing at her as she followed her.

"Oh, Volcana, I don't get why you sided with the goody-doers." Livewire taunted, throwing more bolts at Volcana as she gave chase. "What were you promised?"

As Claire flew, she glanced at Greg, who'd thrown Black Spider against a wall and started pummeling him. Smiling to herself, Volcana stopped to face Livewire. "I found Eastwood." She surprised her by blasting her with her flames.

Lady Vic removed her sword from her sheathe ready to strike Atomic Skull. "Ready when you are, love." Vic said, her sword pointing to Skull.

"I've been ready." Atomic Skull opened his mouth to spew his atomic blasts at Lady Vic. The British assassin ducked to avoid the blasts, running towards Skull as she avoided more.

Reaching Skull, Lady Vic swiped him with her sword, leaving a nasty gash on his leg. "Bitch!" Skull winced, wiping the blood on his leg as he glared at Vic.

Atomic Skull threw a punch at Vic, coming in contact with her stomach. Seeing the opportunity, he grabbed her by the collar and knee-kicked her in the gut.

"That is no way to treat a damsel, Atomic Skull." Lady Vic punched his face, followed by an elbow strike. "She must always make the first move."

"Who says you're a damsel?" He mocked, blasting Lady Vic with an atomic blast that sent her rolling several feet out.

Luthor and his team's distraction had allowed for Batman and his group to reach the floor where Nightwing and Starfire were being held without drawing much attention.

"They're at the end of this hall." The Dark Knight informed, running ahead of the group.

The team came to a stop once reaching the cell. There, they found Nightwing and Starfire sitting together embracing. "Hope we aren't interrupting the two of you." Batman said. "We're here to get you out."

"Bruce." Nightwing perked up at the sight of his mentor. He helped Starfire get up as Cyborg fried the locks to the cell. Exiting, Dick surprised Batman by hugging him.

"I'm glad you're safe, Dick." Batman said, hugging him back. Breaking their hug, Batman went to his usual serious self as they had to continue with their mission.

"What's the next step to the plan, Bats?" The Scarlet Speedster asked.

Batman displayed the Warstrom Grand Station's schematics to the team. "We're here right now. And that's where we want to go now." The Dark Knight pointed to what seemed like an energy source.

"It's the system's core reactor. We shut it down, the whole station loses power. Completely disabling it for good."

With the team nodding, Batman led them back to the elevator. From there, they began descending to reach the core reactor room.

Lex Luthor gathered Bane, Solomon Grundy, and Doctor Polaris. "You'll be joining me to retrieve Amanda Waller from that room." The bald man held his arm up to point to the observation room.

"Polaris, get us up there if you will." On Luthor's order, the Master of Magnetism ripped the metal flooring underneath their feet and began ascending to the observation room.

Luthor shot the window, but the surface barely scratched. "Bulletproof, hmph." He chuckled, glancing at Solomon Grundy. "Grundy, if you please."

"Grundy crush window for Luthor." The zombie started throwing as many punches he could at the window until finally shattering it.

Inside the room was a calm Amanda Waller with an amused look. "I never expected for you to degrade yourself so lowly, Lex. Groveling at Superman's feet for help."

Luthor chuckled, aiming his pistol at her. "I don't grovel to anyone. Let alone serve any expect myself." He refuted. "The more expandable toys I have, the better."

"Don't lie to yourself, Lex. You're using this chance to make yourself look like the one thing you'll never be." Waller retorted, making Luthor frown. "A hero."

"But, I'm afraid I don't have time for any of this. I expected for the station to be tracked by the likes of you, yet not so soon." Amanda Waller grabbed a grenade launcher from beneath the table, aiming it towards them.

Doctor Polaris took the launcher from her hands, grinding it to a metal ball. "A mere gun can't harm us, Waller."

"So it seems." Amanda smirked, running outside of the room. The villains were to chase after her but a red beam was fired at their feet.

"Oh no." Luthor tensed, turning around to only be surprised at who stood there. The villains followed his gesture.

"Are my eyes deceiving me? Superman?" Lex Luthor said in a jesting tone. "No wait. It's Boy Scout 2.0 cheap model, Superboy."

It was Superboy who'd arrived, and had angered by Lex Luthor's taunt. "You think you match Big Blue? You can't even reach his heels. Literally." Lex threw another taunt.

"I will kill you all!" Superboy yelled, gritting his teeth and eyes glowing red as he glared at the group.
