2: Rainfall

You woke up to the cold atmposhere in the room with your mum's arms still wrapped around yours. You slowly sat upright and stretched. You looked at the digital clock on the wall.

1:06AM.

You slowly took a deep breath, still feeling sleepy. You put your mum's hands next to her.

You froze.

Her hands..

They were cold.

In that sudden realisation, you were wide awake.

She had never felt this cold before.

You looked at the screen that showed your mum's heartbeat.

The line was only slightly interrupted by soft heartbeats..

Before it went to a straight line.

The sound of the device filled the room. You still sat there, frozen, not knowing what to do. You didn't feel sadness, nor did you feel anger.. You just felt.. Numb.

Nurses and doctors flooded into the room, some telling you something but it was too much of a blur for you to take in what they were saying.

Still in a blur, you looked at the digital clock.

1:08AM.

You felt hands gently touching your shoulder. You couldn't think straight. The person with her hands on your shoulder slowly and softly told you to please leave the room, and you got up, still in a blur, with the person following you into the waiting chairs section. Then she put you into one of the seats before pulling her hands away and rushing back into the room.

You sat there, feeling numb.

You didn't know long you were sitting there for, but it was all still a blur when Evelyn came out of the room and kneeled in front of you, softly saying, "I'm sorry," and when noticing your silent response she sighed and took your hand and squeezed it softly, "It's okay, (name)."

She brought you back to the room, where your mum lay in her bed, somehow smiling softly. Her hands were together on her stomach, making everything look so peaceful. Evelyn looked down in sadness, and so did the other nurses before leaving the room.

You sighed and smiled softly at your mum. You lay down on the bed and softly gave her the long, last hug you would ever give her again before getting up and leaving the room. You heard some voices saying something, but it was still a blur. You were still smiling softly as you walked out of the building, the heavy downpour falling on you.

You began walking down the streets, not knowing of your destination. Your soft smile still remained on your face.

Without knowing why, you stopped walking. The rain was getting heavier than before, with everything still a blur.

You didn't know how long you were standing there before a car stopped next to you. The person inside leaned over and opened the passenger seat car door. "(name), what are you doing here in the rain?" You looked at him still with the soft smile on your face. He sighed. "Get in." You slowly got in and slowly closed the door. You looked ahead, still smiling softly.

He began to drive. And as he did, you caught your reflection in the mirror. You looked like a mess. Everything was wet. Your (hair length) (hair colour) hair was messily tangled.

It made you feel..

Sad.

Your smile slowly faded.

You looked over at the person to see John Egbert. He had seen you like this in the rain at 1 in the morning.

You looked down at your hands. The blur of everything was slowly fading away.

You weren't smiling anymore.

John Egbert, somebody you barely even talked to, had seen you in the heavy downpour at 1AM, with your messy hair and dripping wet clothes, with your smile that must have made you look like somebody mad, after you had given your mum the last hug.

The last hug.

"(name)? You okay?" his voice was clear now. You felt the car stop, but you didn't question him, nor did you answer him.

Tears streamed down your face.

Sadness took over you.

He sighed and unbuckled his seat belt. He came closer and pulled you in, making you lean onto him. He put his arm around you and rubbed your arm softly.

"It's okay, (f/n)." his soft voice made you feel comfortable.

The both of you sat there in silence, your eyes closed.

The both of you sighed.
