Chapter 4

You're dreaming. The sky above is a gorgeous azure as you lay beneath it in a lush, green field, fluffy clouds passing above. Suddenly, the sky becomes gray and it starts to rain. You tilt your head up, waiting for the cold raindrops to hit your face. Suddenly, you're rather rudely bopped on the nose by... you open your eyes.

"Cookies?!" you screech, as they keep falling, innumerable amounts laying about on the field. Just as you are about to bite into one, it starts to beep continuously, like an alarm clock. An alarm clock.  You wake up with a jolt. It's 11 AM. You lay your head back. "Fuuuuck!" You groan. You've got half an hour before Jack comes to pick you up. With a sigh, you heave out of bed and quickly get ready.

When you go outside, you see Jack waiting for you, a small expectant smile on his face. He's wearing a mossy colored shirt and a leather jacket. He's also got on his trademark golf cap. You're wearing a blue drawstring hoodie and skinny jeans. You smile and give him a thumbs up. "Hello, Y/N! Ya ready to go?" he asks you.

"More ready than I've ever been!" you chime. He laughs, a lovely genuine sound. You can't help but grin. He trots over to the waiting taxi and opens up the blinding yellow door.

"After you, milady," he teases, tipping his cap with a wink. You rolled your eyes with a small smile and got in. He hops in beside you, closing the door with a thud. You and Jack make small talk as the greenery and gray skies pass by. "So what brings you to Ireland?" Jack questions.

"I've always wanted to go as a summer trip," you tell him earnestly. "So I saved up the funds and now here I am!" You elaborate about yourself more, telling him about the college you go to, what you're studying, where you live. He tells you a little about himself as well, like what he was studying before going into YouTube, his siblings, and his childhood. You listen intently, enjoying the way his face would light up or become somber or the way he would talk, fast to slow, hands moving animatedly. Suddenly the taxi screeches to a halt. Jack, regardless of your insisting, pays the driver. You and Jack pile out of the taxi, watching it drive away, leaving skid marks on the road. He turns to you.

"Ya ready for this?" Jack asks in a low voice. You almost roll your eyes.

"Laying it thick, aren't you?" you inquire, raising an eyebrow. He grins his pretty smile.

"Oh af course not! I wouldn't lie to a lady!" You suppress a laugh and fail, snorting. Then he takes your hand. "Alright, let's get going. But close yer eyes, where we're going's a surprise!" He tugs you along, being careful as not to make you trip. He stops for a second, and as you're about to ask whether you can open your eyes, he spins you, laughing. You laugh and go with it, twirling with the grace of a blind hippopotamus. You misstep and almost fall, but Jack grabs both of your hands, pulling you towards him. You snap open your eyes and meet a swirling blue storm trapped in two orbs. You notice the corners of his eyes crinkled in happiness, the tilt of his eyebrows. You break your gaze away, heat blazing across your cheeks. He lets go of your hands, almost tentatively. You scratch the back of your neck.

"Thank you." you mumble, taking a sudden interest in a crack in the concrete. You force yourself to look up and meet Jack's gaze. His eyes are wide and his cheeks flushed. He gives you a sheepish grin.

"Yer welcome," he blurts. You both stand awkwardly for a moment, unsure of what to say. Jack breaks the silence.

"Well we can't stand here all day like a bunch a' smellies!" You burst into a fit of giggles that quickly became loud laughter. He takes your hand once again and winks. "C'mon! I've got a surprise to show ya, don't I?" You close your eyes and let him guide you towards your destination.

You aren't sure how long you two have been walking. You hear people chatting amongst themselves and pushing by. You're going to complain about how your feet are going to implode, but Jack stops, and you almost barrel into him. "We're here!" he announces. You open your eyes. Your eyes widen in awe. There's a bustling street, shops glowing with promise everywhere. People are walking by, laughing and eating and enjoying the absolute merriment of it all. There's a friendly-looking bookshop, a cafe, and many other wonderful attractions. You look at Jack, who's watching you expectantly, then back at the marketplace. "Welcome to Grafton Street!" Jack grins, a twinkle in his eyes.

"Oh, Jack, it's amazing!" you gasp, eyes sweeping everything up. You love it. It's like a dream, you muse. You can't tear your eyes away from the sight.

"I kinda thought this would be place ya like," Jack says, rubbing the back of his neck. "I mean, if ya want to get to know people, this is the best place in Ireland to do it!" You beam at him.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" you prompt him. "Where do you want to start?" He furrows his brow, frowning a little at you.

"Ya sure you don't want to pick, Y/N?"

"There's too much to pick from! Why don't we start with somewhere you know and work our way through?" Jack cocks his head, considering the idea.

"Alright, yeah," he agrees. He scans the stores, then points at a little café, soft light glowing from the sign. The smell of coffee wafted tantalizingly from it. "Why not there?" Jack decides. "We can grab something to eat or drink then cruise the shops. Or if ya want we could just chill for a bit." You give him a thumbs up, smiling. Then he takes your hand and walks you over.

After you both ordered your coffee and bought gigantic cookies, you sat in the café, chatting with Jack. You found comfy seats near the window, where the lighting was a bit dim but cozy. You talked about favorite movies, books, and bands among other things.

"...Actually I really like Panic! at the Disco," Jack confesses, sipping his coffee. You sit up, your face lighting up.

"I really like them too! Ah, I'm so happy," you sigh, leaning back. "What's your favorite album?" Jack grins, his teeth twinkling in the light.

"Can ya pick?" Jack chuckles. "All of them are masterpieces if ya ask me!" You nod your head.

"That's true." You talk some more about the band, the departure of the members, the songs you like, Brendon Urie. Then you both finish up your coffee and devour your cookies, about to face the outside world once again. Once you're both standing outside, Jack turns to you.

"Now where do you wanna go?" You look around, tilting your head inquisitively.  There's a bookshop, a souvenir shop, and a clothes shop. You point to the bookshop. You swear the books almost called to you.

"How about there, Jack?" Jack grins.

"Of course! Anything fer a lady!" You facepalm. You can hear his laughter. Spreading your fingers, you see him smirking at you. "C'mon, Y/N! I cannot deny a fair truth." You snort.

"So now I know you're a dork," you remark. Then you start walking towards the bookshop. You can hear his feet treading behind you. As he catches up, you hide the giddy smile on your face.

***********************

You and Jack walk out of Grafton Street. You both are carrying rather large bags filled with stuff. You tried to pay for everything (you had more than enough!) but Jack insisted he do it instead. You agreed on the term you got to pay for dinner. By the time you were done, it was rather late. As you were trudging back to flag a taxi, Jack stopped. You turn around and give him a look with a raised eyebrow. "Everything okay, Jack?" you ask. He looks at you, an excited smile on his face.

"I almost forgot, Y/N," he said eagerly. He practically skipped over to you (with an armful of stuff!) and grabbed your hand. His eyes were sparkling like crystals in the dim lights, skin shaded a dark purple. His faded green hair looked brilliant with all the blue shadows that seemed to be threaded into it. His smile still stood out, bright as ever. "There's something I wanna show ya."

Jack brought you to a bridge. It overlooked Grafton Street, like a great, looming, tower. The lights twinkled below and you could see the people, colored blues and purples and other fluorescent colors, flitting through. Your mouth opens wide in an astonished smile. You turn to Jack. He's sitting on the bridge, looking at you. He pats the space next to him.

"Don't worry," Jack reassures you. "I won't let ya fall. I didn't at Blarney Castle." You go and sit with him. You both sit in a contented silence, gazing at the beauty of the lights glowing and the skies clear for once.

"Thank you," you tell Jack sincerely. His head snaps around to meet your gaze. You like the way his eyebrows always are raised expectantly, like he's waiting for something. Or the way his eyes crinkle at the edges when he smiles. This was a side of Jack you'd have to meet without the screen in the way. It was something to experience. You really liked this Jack. His impact on you became much more personal. "I really enjoyed today. You've got a way with first impressions." His smile turned into a grin.

"Of course, Y/N! I'm so glad! I kinda thought this would be a good way to kick off yer trip to Ireland and maybe even make a friend!" Your eyes widen. Jack, seeing your reaction, throws back his head, laughing to the sky. You eventually join him, unable to stop giggling. When you've both regained your composure, he looks at you again. "Ya know, Y/N, I think that we've both really gotten to know each other today. It'll be so much fun touring you around Ireland! I think you picked the right tour guide." There was the ego.

"I should hope so! After all, I had to look through so much government information!" Jack grins even wider. You weren't even sure the human facial structure was capable to stretch that much. Then he stands, offering a hand to you. You take it.

"I really enjoyed the evening, Y/N," Jack said honestly. "I can't wait to do this kind of thing again with ya," You feel the blush creeping onto your cheeks. Well he liked to flatter, that was evident. You couldn't wait either.

"Me, too, Jack. I'm really glad I met you," You pause unsure of what to say. "What are we doing next?" Jack taps his chin.

"Honestly, I'm not sure. I'll text ya when I figure it out."

"Alright, but make sure it's not too late. I'm assuming you've got videos to record." He holds a hand to his heart.

"Aw, she cares for the poor Irishman!" You roll your eyes.

"Don't push your luck, potato boy." He gives you an indignant look, then takes your hand and walks you back to get a cab. When you're back at your hotel, he walks you to the door, then give you a great big hug. And though it was late, you took a shower, read a chapter of your book, the feeling of Jack's hand on yours lingered.
