9- Wait. How Old Are You?

In the year 1943. An Armored truck halted to a stop, and two men jumped out of it talking. "There's an answer, I swear. Come on, just try. What gets broken without being held?"

The other man rolled his eyes, telling him. "I don't care."

The two men meet each other at the back of the truck, opening the back. "A promise. Get it?" The first guy, Merrick says. The other guy Hayes looks at him stupidly, "No, I don't. It's stupid. It's not funny. None of this is funny."

They looked back at the opened truck, and lifted a dead woman's body. They carried her over to a clearing on the grass. But Marrick keeps talking, "What has teeth but doesn't bite?"

Hayes gives him a look, "Will you shut up already?" They set the women on the ground and Marrick asks again, "What has teeth but doesn't bite." After getting no answer, he answers it himself, "A comb."

Hayes starts walking back to the car, "These jokes are stupid." Marrick quickly walks faster to catch up to him, "They're not jokes, idiot. They're riddles. My girl back home loves them."

They reached into the truck, carrying out another person, setting him down with the other women, "What has a neck, but no head?" Marrick asks.

"Ur mom." Hayes answered jokingly.

Marrick glares at him, "A bottle." Merrick grabs two gasoline cans and turns around to walk to the bodies but there was someone standing there. Hayes, noticing Merricks shocked faces, turns around. "What the hell!?"

As they looked closely at it, the person was wrapped in bandages. It started walking towards them. Hayes pulled out his gun, and shot at it. But no effect. It goes straight through it. Another shot. Inreturn, it starts walking quickly towards them.

Hayes keeps shooting at it while Merrick drops the gasoline bottles and runs to the driver's door. The wrapped person grapes Hayes hand, turning it around and pulling the trigger of the gun he was holding, making it shoot his stomach.

Merrick kept trying to pull open the driver's door but it seemed to be stuck. The thing stalks up to him and grabbed his hand, turning Marrick to face it. "What has a neck but no head?" It asked.

It turned Merricks head, snapping it, then pulled it off his body. Merricks headless body falls to the ground.

Kira, Scott, and Nori sat at their dining table looking at an old picture, and a sword.

Nori held the picture of two people, an uninformed man leaning against a military jeep, and a woman who looked like Kira sitting by it. "This looks just like you kie." Nori said, handing Kira the Picture.

"This has to be grandma." Kira told her, she flipped the picture over and it had the year 1943 written on it.

Scott looked at the picture then over at the sword, saying, "You remember when I told you guys about Malia? She's the last one who saw Stiles at Eichen House. This picture and this." He lifted the sword to show them. "They found it with a body buried in a wall. The same backwards five that the oni put on us, was on the wall. It sounds like it all goes back to your guy's family. Your grandmother, your mom."

Nori and Kira's phone both buzz, making them look at it. Nori and Kira both looked up from their phones with feared eyes. Scott, seeing it, asked, "What is it?" Nori jumped out of her seat to grab something, while Kira answered him, "Our dad."

The three run through the school double doors and run to Yukimura's classroom. They slide to a stop when they see him on the ground choking, and Noshiko trying to comfort him. "Did you bring it?" Noshiko asked.

Nori ran up to her, holding out the small bottle she was asked to bring. "You wanna tell me what it is?" Noshiko, quickly trying to unscrew the top, answered her, "Reshi."

Nori furrowed her eyebrows, "You're not seriously giving dad magic mushrooms?" Noshiko quickly glared at Nori, then feed their dad the reshi. Yukimura started violently coughing and spit a black substance onto a napkin. Noshiko and Nori helped him, "Are you okay?"

Scott stared at Yukimura, "Stiles did this?" Noshiko turned to Scott, "He wanted the last kaiken." She held up the knife Nori and Kira the other day saw her pulling out of a book. "I've kept this near me ever since your friend disappeared."

"Mom, you need to talk to us, about everything." Kira told her. Noshiko nodded in understanding, and Scott took out the picture from before and handed it to her. She furrowed her eyebrows, staring at it, "Where did you get this?"

"Is it Grandma?" Kira asked.

"No. It's me."

*I don't see the point in writing the whole backstory scene that is at this part lol. I also just don't want to, and if you watched the show then you already know.*

"If that's you then you'd have to be like 90 years old." Scott said.

"Closer to 900." Noskio corrected.

Kira and Nori looked at each other with wide eyes. Kira shook her head in disbelief, "Okay, sure. Why not?"

"How were you able to have kids? Cause in shows when they are like, super old they complain about not being able to." Nori thought out loud.

"Wait, dad, how old are you?" Kira asked.

"43. But I've been told I look mid-30s" Yukimura answered.

He jumped a little when he looked over at Nori to see her suspiciously eyeing her dad. Kira hands Noshiko the katana, which she gladly takes. Noshiko turns around to stand in front of Yukimura's desk. She pulled the sword cover off and dropped the blade bits onto the table.

"The blade was shattered the last time it was used." Noshiko explains.

"When was that?" Kira and Nori asked at the same time, which they 'discreetly' high five each other for.

"1943. Against a nogitsune." Noshiko answered. Nori furrowed her eyebrows, "A dark kitsune? Void."

Nosiko, impressed she knew something, smiled and nodded her head at Nori. "Can't believe that's all I have to do for them to be impressed." Nori whispers to Kira as Scott asks. "All this, it's all happened before, hasn't it?"

Kira nudged Nori's side telling her to shut up.

"Yes."

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Yukimura said.

"Where did it come from?" Kira asked. "It was an internment camp during World War II. In Oak Creek. Not too far from here."

Scott and Kira share a look before Scott asks Yukimura, "You told Allison and Issac that there was no internment camp at oak Creek." At the mention of Issac's name Nori perks up and is interested in the conversation again.

"Allison's family has a certain history of violence." He answered.

"Yeah no shit." Nori mumbled to herself remembering her almost shooting Lydia. "Sorry." She quickly says from the way her mom is eyeing here for swearing.

"I didn't know if she could be trusted. There was a camp, yes. But all the records were erased." Yukimura continued, "They covered it up."

"When I was a grad student, my passion project, actually more like an obsession, was trying to dig up the truth on Oak Creek. It's how I met your mother."

"That's a nice, "that's how I met your mother,' story." Nori said.

Kira nodded her head agreeing with her until a photo of a burned victim picture caught her eye. "Where did the nogitsune come from?"

"Isn't it obvious yet? It came from me." Noshiko said, looking away and out the window.

Nori jokingly gasps dramatically. Which Scott tries to hide his laughter from.

_

Noshiko puts the pieces from the blade to start connecting each other after telling a little bit more of the internment camp. "Kira, I need your help on this. There isn't much time. And this is something that needs to be done in the daylight." She pleaded.

Kira crossed her arms and shook her head. "Not until you tell us everything."

Yukimura says, "Tell them, Noshiko. Tell them what they need to know."

Noshko sternly looks at Nori, then Kira. "Wolves and foxes tend not to get along."

Nori put her hands up in a surrendering type way, "Hey, hey do not look at me. I'm not the one who's dating a dog." Kira looks at her with wide eyes, "Nori shut the hell up, and do you plan on not tellin-." Kira and Nori start to argue but are cut off by their mom.

"Girls! This is not the time to argue." She sternly says. Nori looks over at Scott to see him looking visibly uncomfortable. "Sorry." Kira and Nori both mumble.

"Wolves and Foxes not getting along is not just in fables and stories." She continued.

Yukimura not liking the death stare she is giving to Scott speaks up, "but allies, however unlikely, should be welcomed. Especially in times of war." Noskio, annoyed that her husband isn't fully taking her side, slams the piece of the sword she was holding onto the desk, continuing with her love story and how she would steal things to help the others in the camp.

"Okay, stop. Just stop. We don't want to hear your Casablanca story. We wanna know how to save Stiles." Kira stops her.

"How does it make you feel, that your wife is fantasizing about her forbidden love?" Nori jokingly asks her dad. Yukimura sends her a look, happy but also annoyed that she's finding amusement out of this.

"I'm trying to tell you." Noshiko tells Kira, raising her voice a little.

Scott speaks up, "You're trying to stall. When the sun goes down, the oni are gonna come after him again, aren't they?"

"Your friend's gone, Scott." Yukimura sighs. Scott shakes his head, "I don't think you know that for sure. You brought the Oni. Can you call them off?"

Kira looks at her mom, dead in the eyes. "It's not his fault."

"Stiles may be your best friend. He might be like a brother to you. But he is nogitsune now. He is void."

Scott, looking like he is about to cry, now asks again, "Can you call them off?"

"Wait till you hear the rest of the story."

"Jesus Christ Mom, it's a simple yes, or no, answer. Can, you, call, them off?" Nori says starting to get irritated by the way her mom is acting.

"You won't want me to." She sighs.

-

"Rhys and I found ways to see each other. Sometimes at the barracks. Sometimes in the bunkers where they parked military vehicles. He was being transferred to North Africa in a few weeks. I was teaching him some French."

"We watched Merrick and Hayes talking with the camp doctor. They were whispering, talking quickly."

"Noshiko." Yukimura says as she cuts her hand with a katana blade.

Nori looks away from the sight, disturbed. "Mom, what are you doing?!" Kira asks, reaching for her mom's hands. But Noshiko moves away and takes the cloth Yukimura was holding out for her.

"How did you do that?" Kira asks which gets Nori's eyes to look back at her mom who had her hand flipped to show them her hand was bloody but there was no sign of a cut.

"It's one of our talents. Something you'll learn, Kira." Noshiko smiles at her.

"And Nori?" Kira asks, knowing Nori would later bring this up.

"You have powers as well?" Noshiko asks Nori curiously.

Nori scratches the back of her head, "Well, I wouldn't say powers. But I-uh-definitely can do things. Like control time."

"Then you will also learn, Nori." Noshiko tells her which Nori smiles to herself. "You both should've noticed by now that you never get sick. Ever."

The teens share a look with each other as she continues. "You'll never experience something as simple as a common cold. Something as bad as the flu."

"Yay us!" Nori cheers holding her hand up to Kira to high five but she just gets a serious look from her. "I'm just trying to brighten the mood." Nori frowns to herself slowly retracting her hand. But before she did Scott raised his hand up and high fived her, which made Nori smile brightly at him. "You. I like you. I'm keeping you." She told him, which made him also smile.

"Or something like...Pneumonia. There was a spread at the camp, there was no more M&B medicine. 2 boxes were stolen. Rhys checked his logs. But we already knew what was happening. Dr. Liston was using Merrick and Hayes to sell medicine on the black market."

"I had realized the mistake I had made by speaking too soon. I wasn't helping anyone. I was inciting a riot. I yelled for them to stop. But so many people were getting sick. And so many were dying. I've never seen anger like that. It was a living, breathing thing."

"Now I knew why Satomi was always trying to keep quiet. Why she got migraines once a month, and why she was always at the game of Go. It kept her calm."

"She was bitten." Scott says.

"Bitten werewolves have a harder time suppressing their anger. One unexpected flare-up and they could lose all control" Noshiko says.

"So basically don't bite someone who has anger management issues." Nori tells Scott.

Noshiko, Kira, and Nori place the blade pieces together like a puzzle while Noshiko kept telling her story. "The gunfire nearly killed me. I don't know how many bullets made their way into my body, but I fought every one of them. It left my body so weak, my heartbeat so slow it appeared as though I was dead. But even then, I was still better off than Rhys." She was trying to hold back her tears.

"Mom." Nori softly said, putting her hand over her moms in a comforting way.

"His screams could be heard throughout Eichen House, echoing through every room, every hallway. He died in agony. The doctor, it seems, had also sold the morphine." Noshiko took a couple breaths to calm down.

"Merrick and Hayes were given the task of getting rid of all the bodies, both American and Japanese-American. They were transferring Dr. Liston out as well, stationing him somewhere else."

"Were they trying to cover it up?" Nori asked, Noshiko nodded.

"Like nothing ever happened. The doctor, Marrick, Hayes, and all of the others. They were gonna get away with murder. By chance, I guess, Rhys' body had been put next to mine. He was wrapped in bandages with his uniform over it. I wanted the soldiers and the administration of the camp to be punished for their crime. But I knew the clock was ticking. I was going to lose my chance. They were going to burn me with the others. I couldn't fight back with my body weakened and still healing." At this point Noshiko was trying her best not to cry.

"I could barely move. I was going to die. With time slipping through my fingers, I knew I was making a terrible decision. But I could not die knowing they would get away. So I called out to our ancestors for Kitsune-Tsuki. Possession by a fox spirit. For a powerful nogitsune, one that feeds off chaos, strife and pain, to take control of my weakened body, imbue it with power and use it as a weapon. But calling on a trickster spirit is a dangerous thing. They can have a very dark sense of humor. Because while the nogitsune did come to possess someone, it wasn't me."

"What happened?" Scott asked.

"My body was beginning to heal. And I managed to pull myself up from the ground. But it was too late."

"What did it do?" Scott asked.

"It brought chaos, strife, and more pain than you can imagine.

*

"I had to find Rhy. I had to stop him." Noshiko looked out the window to see the sun was starting to set. "Kira, hurry. Night is coming."

They finished putting the blade pieces in place. "Coup de foudre?" Nori repeated.

"The literal translation is "a bolt of lighting." In French, it can also mean "love at first sight." But a bolt of lighting happens to be exactly what we need right now." Noshiko said.

"For what?" Nori asked.

"Excising the nogitsune from Rhys' body shattered the katana. But you both can put it back together." Noshiko told them.

"I thought you said Kira needed to do it?" Nori asked.

"That was before I knew you were a kitsune."

"Why don't you just do it yourself?" Kira asked.

"Because I'm not a thunder or time kitsune." Noshiko answers her

Nori and Kira share a look.

"Do you girls trust me?" Noshiko asked.

"We just found out you're 900 years old. I don't think we will ever be able to trust you again." Kira said, which looked like it hurt Noshiko.

"Trust me on this." Noshiko motioned for Nori to stand on her right side and she slowly grabbed Kira's hand bringing it over the sword. "Nori, I want you to focus your breathing, and clear your mind."

"My mind is never clear, there's always something happening in there." Nori said nervously.

"Nori, you're going to have to learn."

Nori nodded her head and shook her hands, she focused her breathing to a slow pattern. Closing her eyes and trying her best to clear her thoughts.

"Now when you open your eyes, I want you to focus on the energy and time around the sword. As crazy as it sounds, you need to control the energy of the sword." Noshiko calmly explained.

"That makes no sense." Nori mumbled.

"Just try it." Noshiko said.

Nori opened her eyes but nothing felt different, or out of the ordinary. Nori sighed and shook her head, "I can't do this, this is too much pressure."

"You're overthinking this Nori, instead of clearing your thoughts. Just focus on one thing." Kira said.

Nori took a deep breath and closed her eyes once again. She focused on one thing, Isaac. When she opened her eyes they were glowing a light blue and orange. She stares at the sword in a trance like state, confirming it was working.

Noshiko nodded her head at Kira and Kira held her hand above the katana. Lighting strikes throughout the katana, and the energy Nori is controlling holds in the lighting. Together it starts melting the blade pieces together. Once the katana is completed Kira absorbs the energy and lighting, pulling her hand away. Nori gasps as she is brought out of her trance-like state, she starts swaying but her dad grabs her shoulder, holding her up.

"I'm gonna vomit." Nori said, with a disgusted face.

Kira and Scott looked at each other impressed with what the girls did. Once Nori gets ahold of herself she looks at the katana, "Holy hell we did that!" Holding her hand out for Kira to high five, which this time she high fives her.

Noshiko holds the katana up, presenting it to Kira. "Go ahead. It's yours now."

"What if I don't want it?" Kira asks, eyeing the katana.

"Kie, this katana was literally made for you. Take it." Nori asks, rolling her eyes.

Noshiko tosses the sword at Kira who instinctively grabs the katana and starts spinning it around her hands flawlessly. "You see? It gives you balance. My power is now yours, Kira. If the oni can't stop Stiles, you have to. The same as I did." Noshiko tells her, looking over at Scott. "And maybe seek out a wolf to help you."

"You didn't tell us anything." Scott said.

"What do you mean she literally just told us a hour long story of her forbidden love's death that turned into a dark kitsune." Nori furrowed her eyebrows.

Noshiko ignored Nori, "You want to save Stiles? Kill him. That's the only way."

"You agree with this?" Scott asked Yukimura.

"Sometimes, history does repeat itself, Scott."

"Just like Elena and Stefan's love for each other. Katherine, Tatia, Amara..." Nori whispered to herself.

"Only if you don't learn." Scott said.

"But sometimes even then, fate conspires against you." Yukimura says.

Scott's phone starts buzzing and he takes it out, reading a message from Allison that says "Derek's loft." Scott looks at Noshiko, "There's a way to save him. There has to be." Scott turns around and leaves the classroom. Quickly followed by Nori and Kira but are stopped by their mom. "Girls." She lifts up the Katanas sheath, Kira walks over and puts her katana in it.
