Chapter 33 - Your Fantasies Become Your Legacy

(G/N) woke up first that morning. She didn't want to get out of Newt's arms but she had to. Her hands felt for the pearl earrings. She felt a little embarrassed that Newt gave her this beautiful gift and she didn't have anything for him. So while he was sleeping, she drew something for him. She placed her sketchbook on Newt's stomach and laid down his hand on top of it.

"Goodbye Newt, I'll come back." She gently kisses him on his cheek. "See you later."

She sped off into her hut to change into her gear. While she was waiting for the Maze doors to open, she was silently hoping that Newt will come to see her off as he always did. To her surprise, he didn't. She thought that he was just probably tired because of preparing for last night. That night was one of the best nights in her life. She realized that that was also the very first date she had.

When the Maze Doors opened, (G/N) sped off with her mind now focused on finding the books. Once again, (G/N) was in Section 8. She sprinted as fast as she could so that she could surpass the paths that were part of the map. Her body ached and groaned from yesterday's run but she had to keep going.

By noon, she found herself in a part of the Maze that she finds unfamiliar. She took out her notebook and saw that she has done the first part of her plan. She's now in the unknown.

With her body tired and weary, she wanted to rest but curiosity prevents her from staying put. She walked in the new part of the Maze, mapping it out as went and taking a bite off her sandwich. She walked around until she finally saw a big red eight. Seeing it in person made (G/N) drop everything she was holding.

"Wow."

She couldn't believe it. She's so close to finding the books. They must be around here somewhere. To think that she will come back in the Glade free of this burden. This burden that she carried all by herself for so many months. She wanted to tell Newt about it but to so it, he might go mad. James told her about it.

(G/N) continued to look around until she saw a place that looked familiar. She let her feet guide her to the place where she saw herself drop the books. The looked around and saw the path to be bare. She wondered where could they be.

She let herself sit down in the middle of the path. She took a few more bites of her sandwich as she wondered where those blasted books could be. Searching her memories felt useless. All she had were up until the blast. Perhaps the books were blown away. Lying down on the ground, she was praying for a sign or a clue.

The sun was still shining brightly so it was still too early to come back to the Glade. But perhaps she could since there was a new part of the Glade that she discovered. She was dismayed with not being able to find the books that she didn't see her other victory which was that she was able to reach the very end of Section 8.

(G/N) was about to go back to that big red Section 8 and see if she could find the exit of the Maze. But then her eyes landed on some piece of vines. Those vines ran from the top of the wall and into the ground. She walked towards the wall. She laid her hands on it and felt a crack right under the vines. The vines were hiding what seems to be a very huge crack. Then all the puzzle pieces were all placed together.

The explosion.

The Grievers were blown up and many hit the wall. The Creators must've tried to hide the huge crack with vines.

(G/N)'s eyes landed on the vines that were on the ground. You wouldn't think of it much at first. It looks like a bunch of vines just dumped altogether. But when she took them all out, it revealed her backpack with the books.

She pulled her backpack out of the vines. It was still nice and intact. They must've hidden it like this so that no Runner or Griever would touch it and get blasted out of existence again. She opened it and saw the books. There they were. She dug deeper in the pack and saw her phone.

"Holy shuck it still works."

She looked at the date and saw it was April 27, 2014. This information was some fort of a shock for her. If she got in the Glade on November, she was staying in there for about six months. It felt like it was longer. She used to keep count of how many months she stayed there by counting the greenies that would come but she lost count when she got stung. She also didn't bother to count anymore.

"So I've got the books."

Now what?

She has the books and she needs to return them. How?

(G/N) heard an unmistakable shriek. Shoving the phone back in the pack, she turned to see a Griever coming towards her direction. For a second, both she and the Griever were just staring at each other. Her stance was ready for running because that's been her relationship with Grievers ever since.

What's going on? What are the Creators up to?

"How am I going to bring them back?" She asked the Griever. They probably have cameras on it. They could probably hear her. "Tell me!"

It hit her that a Griever couldn't possibly talk back. But they could probably give her a sign. Give her some clues on how to bring the books back. They've been pushing her to find it that they even stung her. They wouldn't leave her like this when the mission is almost done.

The answer the Griever gave her wasn't one she expected. The Griever tried to grab her but she dodged it.

"What's going on?" She snapped.

Before the Griever could try to grab her again, she bolted away from it.

Where am I going to go?

Going back to the Glade with the books will place everyone in danger. Leaving the books here, one of the Runners might find it and they'll be in danger. Where will she go? What will she do? How will she get back to the Realm of Stories? Why is the Griever chasing her?

As much as she didn't want to, her feet were leading her back to the Glade. So many things were spiraling in her head. Questions were among them but also her past experiences with Grievers. She remembered the nightmares and the terrors. If she'll get back to the Glade, she'll probably have nightmares again tonight.

(G/N) looked up at the sky and saw that the sun was starting to set. She didn't realize that she's been running for hours trying to lose the Griever. Adrenaline made her forget about feeling tired.

Looking back to see if the Griever was still on her tail was a mistake. She tripped over a vine, scraping her knee, and bruising her arm because they tried to break her fall. The Griever saw her on the floor and was rushing to get to her. One of its legs was about to pierce through her body if she didn't take her backpack and used it to cover her. The Griever shrieked and backed away like it was on fire.

(G/N) stood up and used the backpack as her shield. The Griever wouldn't come close to her. She thought that she actually found a way to live through this. But her victory was short lived when the Griever decided to attack her again. She cursed under her breath as she placed the backpack on her back and sprinted away again.

She continued to run until she saw that she was getting closer to the Maze Doors. As she got closer, she could feel the ground vibrating meaning that the doors were beginning to close. She made a turn and saw the doors. There was a long run before she could get to the Glade and the doors were closing.

I can make it. I can make it!!

Right on the other side, she saw Newt. He was waiting for her.

She couldn't help herself. "Newt!"

Could he hear me?

She was starting to lose hope but she imagined herself running into Newt's arms. The Maze Doors shut and the Griever was stuck on the other side. She'll be fine. She'll be safe.

"(G/N)!" She heard her name being called by Newt. She started to run faster.

I can make it.

"Run!!" Newt was yelling. "You promised!"

I'll come back Newt. Just as I promised.

"Run!" Newt was frantic now. She wanted to get to the other side and hug him. Comfort him and tell him that she's fine now. That she's safe.

(G/N) reached the Maze Doors and was about to pass through.

I'm going to make it!

She looked at Newt's face, expecting to see him elated that she was going to make it. She was coming back to him as she promised.

I'm going to make it!

But his eyes were focused on something above her. She looked up and saw that the Griever was on top of her.

I need to make it.

It was too late for her to avoid one of its legs that was aiming towards her.

I'm going to-

Its leg pierced through her heart.

"NO!"

The Griever took his leg out of her chest.

"(G/N)! NO!"

Newt's cries were what she heard as she dropped on the ground. She could see through the closing doors Newt trying to enter the Maze but he was being held back by Gally, Alby, Ben, and Minho.

"(G/N)! YOU PROMISED! (G/-"

The Maze Doors shut.

-

Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

(G/N) eyes quickly opened and she took in a huge breath. She looked around and saw white. It was all medical equipment around her. She saw that she was in a robe that they use for hospitals.

"I must be in WICKED," she said to herself.

Her body became alert when she realized that she was in WICKED.

"Oh no," she alertly sat up, ignoring the searing headache that she had when she did.

She took out all of the needles that were injected in her. Even if the fluids that were running seemed safe, she can't ever be so sure. She opened the door and was shocked when it wasn't locked.

Maybe they forgot.

It wasn't like WICKED to leave doors unlocked. She looked around and saw no one in the halls. She saw a clock and saw that it was 2:48 in the morning. She walked in the quiet halls until she bumped into a lady, who seemed to be a nurse.

The nurse was shocked at the sight of (G/N) but when she regain her composure, she looked at her and saw a band on her wrist. If the robe wasn't proof enough that she was a patient, the band sealed the deal. She took the walkie talkie on her hip and called the guards.

(G/N) made a run for it as soon as the nurse made movement that she was taking her walkie talkie. The more deeper she ran, she saw more people. It was weird, most of the people she saw were wearing regular clothes, not lab coats. She didn't give it much thought and continued to run until she found a door leading to the outside world.

Before she could reach it, hands grabbed our arms and legs by humongous men. She thrashed and squirmed but their grips were tight.

"Let me go! Let me go!" She screamed, not caring about the people who were starting to gather around her and stare at her. "What the shuck is going on?!"

"Someone call her guardian or parents! Just call someone to tell she's awake!" She heard a female voice shout.

"I've got on the phone a Thomas Brodie Sangster!" She heard someone say.

She stopped thrashing when she heard that familiar name.

Thomas Brodie Sangster.

She felt something prick her arm and she saw that something was being injected inside of her. She instantly felt sleepy and her body went limp.
