Chapter 6: The Sunday Afternoon in Question

The temperature was nice for late September, which meant sweaters, jeans and boots. Nothing too heavy and nothing too light, perfect.

"Okay, the first thing to establish is that we look super amazing, like wow we're really out here being models." I smiled. "And second, I love how you're mind works this is amazing." I glanced around the book store which served as a coffee shop as well.

Ray looked away rather bashfully, adorable might I add. I was happy that now I could enjoy making Ray a disaster with my flirting without feeling bad, truly amazing, this whole date thing.

"Thanks, I'm hoping we can multitask today. We can study, snack and have fun." He rolled up his sleeves. "The perfect date."

I grimaced. "You know that sounds great but why are studying? It's the weekend, school doesn't exist until Monday."

"Because, Emma, we have a test tomorrow. And the weekend isn't an excuse to slack off from school, we're seniors." He sighed. "But don't worry, it'll be fun. I promise."

I huffed, annoyed but interested. He made it sounds fun. "You'll suffer if I don't have fun." I cracked a smile. "Now let's get started."

It was 5 pm and it had been the worst 4 hours of my life. No antics, no shenanigans, and worst of all, most flirting was kept to a minimum.

"Ray, you said this was gonna be fun." I closed my book. "I've never been more bored outside of school before."

Ray looked up. "It hasn't been that bad."

"There's graphite stains on my hand." Shoved my hand in he face.

"Oh." He stared at my hand, shutting her book. "Okay, I see what you mean."

I kicked under the table playfully. "I guess you and I have different definitions of fun, but that shouldn't be super surprising."

Ray began packing his notebooks. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, it's always been like this. You always stayed in and did tame things like reading and watching tv. I always had to drag you out to play with me." I smiled and realized. "Well this situation makes sense now."

I stared off and glanced over at Ray who was deep in thought, what was he thinking about.

"Okay, well I've decided to change my whole plan up. Let's go." Ray shot up. "We're gonna do fun stuff."

I grinned. "Really, what do you have in mind?"

"Hopefully, something that you would."

"I can't believe it." I gasped, opening the doors to the arcade. "You do love me after all."

"Still upset over a study date?" He looked over at me. "I only did it because it seemed beneficial for... well, you."

I rolled my eyes. "You say that like I'm dumb." I walked over to a fighting game, popping a coin and starting it up. "I get a B in a class ONE time and suddenly I'm incapable of being intelligent."

Ray joined me and added another coin for multiplayer. "I mean a B is a pretty low considering you're you."

"Well I'm glad you think I'm smart but I'll let you know, that it was my tests that brought down my grade." I chose my character, grimacing at the memory of the class. "Why did she have to make them so wordy and complicated?"

"Maybe she just likes seeing her students fail. You know those kinds of teachers." He chimed in as our game started.

"Maybe, I dunno. But that was not a fun class, I don't remember anything we learned in there." I scoffed. "She was so boring."

"That's gross. I remember when my mom made me to cram school, just because, and all the teachers had a stick up their asses." He shuddered.

I laughed. "Oh yeah I remember that. You'd always come home late and look half dead." The health bar on Ray's character was nearly dead, but so was mine. "I'm glad Yuugo never made me do that stuff."

"You should be, he knows you're already smart enough." He smiled, landing the final blow on me. "And I won."

I frowned, letting go of the joystick. "I was so close."

He loomed over me. "Yet here I am, the winner."

I leaned towards him. "Not if I beat you at something else. Get ready cause I'm gonna destroy you at every other game here."

"Really? That's bold considering every time we've ever come here I always win."

"That might be true but this time it won't be. I'll even bet something, name it."

Ray crossed his arms and thought. "You'll reimburse me 2 times what I spend today."

"Fine, and if I win I get 3 nonnegotiable wishes from you." I extended my hand for a handshake.

Ray raised an eyebrow, wondering what I had up my sleeve. But was quickly dropped over his confidence in his skills.

"Fine." He shook my hand.

"Great, let's get started."

Cryspi here, I usually don't leave A/N's but I just wanted to say sorry for the short update.

I actually rewrote the entire chapter cause I didn't like the first draft, which itself was 1000+ words. But as you know, quality over quantity so 800 words chapter instead
