L A N D O / P R E S S

Throughout the night, Fox and Lando did not use any of the facilities provided by Maximillion, instead they spent their evening together in the room given to them. The bed was their place of hiding, a place of rest, a place of secrets and truths spoken between them. Fox had only ever wanted a relationship like this, safe and away from prying eyes, one where she could truly be herself.

When the morning came, the two young people showered, dressed and left their room returning to the chaos that was in the main part of the ferry. Fox was surprised to see people still partying, especially as most of the people here were older than herself.

"Fox," her attention was drawn from Lando, she dropped his hand which she held before turning and smiling at her father who was approaching with a coffee. "So, I think me and you need to talk when we return home."

She opened her mouth to speak, thinking about the words she needed to say in order to not start any arguments. "I was hoping I might be able to," she paused before looking at Lando then deciding it was time to be honest with her father. "I am going with Lando. We're going to miss the celebrations and just go home, get clothes then go to Lando's."

Maximillion stared down at his oldest daughter, he was well aware she was growing up but that didn't stop him from worrying and not wanting her to do certain things. "Are you sure that is a good idea?"

Nodding her head, she smiled as she looked at her dad. "Actually I do. I have made a lot of mistakes, done a lot of things which I have later come to regret. This isn't going to be one of them." Fox was confident in her words as she told her dad exactly how she felt. Her hand found Lando's again, the thought of hiding what they had was something that worried her. "I think this is something I am meant to do. It feels right."

Her father raised his eyebrows. He thought about the things in his life that he had missed out on, things that he had not been able to do because someone had stopped him. He knew if something felt right, it was a good sign, a sign that you should just go for it. Maximillion wanted her to be happy, if this was something she needed to do to be happy, he was not going to stop her. "Okay," he said with a grin. "As long as you promise me one thing," he bargained with her.

"What?"

"You complete the course, stay for photos and end the race like everyone else."

Fox felt Lando squeeze her hand, she smiled before she gave in. "Okay, but then you have to let me go, okay?"

Her father nodded, "Then we are even."

The cars arrived back in London in a convoy. Lando was driving, Fox sat uncomfortably in the passenger seat. To Lando it was obvious that her nerves were kicking in, she pulled her sleeves over her hands and she put her sunglasses over her eyes. He wondered what she thought at this moment in time but it wasn't the right time to talk about it.

The cameras flashed around them, some pushed up against the glass, some just from a distance. The photographers were focused on every car, not just theirs but to Fox, it felt like she was the only one being pictured. Behind her glasses, she watched as people moved around their vehicles, trying to get the best shots, to get a shot which might be useful in other stories and not only about Gumball.

"Lando," she spoke in a small voice, her lips barely moving.

He smiled as he glanced at her for a second before looking back at the road. "You okay?" He asked concerned about her well being. "Soon we will be out of here."

She nodded, her blonde hair falling forward a little as she reverted back to nervous woman he'd seen on occasions. Fox stared into the crowds, her eyes seemingly scanning various people. Her eyes widened as she took in a sharp breath. Suddenly, her hands felt clammy and her nerves were much worse than before. She turned her head, she looked at Lando who was concentrating on driving at a slow speed. "I have really enjoyed this week," she sounded like she was about to deliver some bad news. "I'm not a bad person," the words came out of her mouth in a way that made Lando turned his head for a brief second.

"What do you mean?"

Fox used her tongue to wet her dry lips, the nervousness setting in quickly. "Please just," she spoke like she was almost begging. She sighed as she looked down at her hands, "Every part of my life is complicated, I was just hoping this part of my life wasn't going to come back around." She looked back up, her eyes glancing out the window. "I wish we could just go now."

His hand reached for hers, he didn't care about the cameras or the headlines he only wanted to make Fox feel better. "Whatever it is, I'm sure it's nothing."

For a moment, Fox was unsure if that was the case. She sat in the car as they finally came to a stop, parking in a line with the other vehicles. Fox looked at Lando before she took a deep breath. "It can't be that bad," Lando tried to cheer her up but the look on her face told him she was passed that.

Both their attentions were diverted by a bang on the window. Fox closed her eyes as she heard it deciding in her head whether she wanted to look or not. When she did turn and open her eyes, she was not surprised to see Dean there with an angry look on his face.

She opened the car door and stepped out, closing the door and leaning against it. "What are you doing here?" She asked him in a calm voice.

"I came to see you," he said, it sounded like it was normal. "I'm ready for us to be couple."

"What?" Fox was shocked by his words. "I don't want to be with you, Dean." She tried to remain calm as she was aware their was photographers, press and her dad around. "Please leave me alone."

Dean stepped forward, making Fox lean closer towards the car. She stared at him, her nerves shaking as she worried about where this was going.

"Fox?" Lando's voice interrupted the moment which Fox was grateful for.

"I'm okay," she lied as she realised that no matter how grateful she was for his voice, Dean was uncomfortably close to her.

Dean looked over at the young man who had just climbed out of the car. "Ahh," Dean said as he shook his head. "So, this is who you think can replace me?"

Fox sighed as she side stepped away from Dean and gave herself some space, "I haven't replaced you. You were never happy with me." She pushed her blonde hair away from her face, "I remember what you said to me when I had to go. I am so glad that I went away, it's only shown me the truth about you and the people around me I call friends."

"You will come running back to me," Dean smirked. "It might not be today or tomorrow but you will."

Lando put an arm around Fox, she smiled as she looked up at Lando. She was so grateful for his presence and touch. "Can we just see my dad and then disappear?" Fox didn't want to talk to Dean no longer, his aura and being there was making her miserable.

"Lando!" There was shouts from some press as they swarmed towards the three young people. There was so many questions all mushed into one, many things thrown at them as Fox put an arm around Lando's lower back keeping him close to her. If he wasn't afraid of showing the world then neither was she.

Dean turned to the cameras, he started to talk, to tell them what he thought was the truth.

"Can we," Fox looked up at Lando with a small smile.

The Formula One driver could only grin as he looked at the blonde. To the world it was obvious that they were happy even if Dean disagreed. "Lets just do this thing and then we can get on the road again."

Fox nodded as she leaned her head on his shoulder, "Perfect."
