Chapter 1: Introduction

1895

A house was perched on top of a hill, covered with mist. All the lights were out indicating that everyone inside was asleep.

A bat flew through the night towards a balcony in front of a pair of glass doors that lead inside the house.

The bat transformed into a cloaked figure with pointed ears and sharp fangs. This cloaked figure was Count Dracula.

The balcony doors flew open on their own, and he entered the room.

Inside the room, a baby crib was placed in the corner. Dracula approached the crib and outstretched its hands.

"Peek-a-boo!" He said.

Inside the crib, was a little baby boy. When he saw the man he started crying.

The man frowned and immediately picked the baby up out of the crib. "No, no, no, no, no. I didn't mean to startle you, my little baby." He apologized.

Dracula: "Hush, little vampire, don't say a word. Papa's gonna bite the head off a bird."

He sang, and his son laughed.

"A-bitty-boo-bah." He cooed. "I want to kiss your tush! I want to kiss your tush!"

Dracula placed the baby on a changing table and used his magic to change his diaper, and discarded the dirty one in a coffin shaped trash can.

...

Dracula was looking over some blueprints of a large building with another monster.

"Nice, but maybe a little more square footage. I want a lot of monsters here." Dracula suggested.

Suddenly, a drop fell onto the paper. Dracula looked up and smiled as he saw his son, who was now a toddler, sitting on the ceiling.

...

"I'm going to get you, little Maven! I'm going to get you!" Dracula teased as he ran after his son who was riding on a toy horse.

Maven hopped off the horse and noticed the open door. "What out there?" He asked.

Dracula quickly picked him up. "Oh, we never go out there. Ever." He told him.

...

Dracula and Maven were sitting on Maven's bed and Dracula was reading him a bedtime story about humans.

"And then the monsters ran away and were forced into hiding. But Harry the Human found them and jumped out from their bed!"

Maven pulled his blanket further up his face. "I'm scared!"

"And burned their clothes!"

Maven crawled under the blanket.

"And bit their toes!"

Dracula pinched Maven's toes through the blanket.

"And took their candy!"

Dracula lifted the blanket up, but Maven wasn't there. He looked around confused, before looking under the bed.

Maven was hiding under there clutching a skull lollipop in his hands.

"Don't take my candy!" He whined.

"Babyclaws, you don't need to be frightened." Dracula reassured. "I promised your Mommy I would protect you forever."

Dracula started playing a song on a ukulele and Maven crawled out from under the bed to listen.

Dracula: "My beautiful May-vay. Let me wipe all your poop away. Those humans are nast-ay."

Dracula used his magic to make the ukulele play by itself as he picked up Maven and placed him next to him.

Dracula: "So with Daddy you will stay. And if a human tries to harm you, I'll simply say..."

Dracula's eyes burned red and he barked his fangs and snarled and roared.

Dracula: "Because you're Daddy's boy, Daddy's boy."

...

Maven stood on his bed wearing a helmet and Dracula knelt on the floor holding his hands out.

"Just bend the legs and push off." Dracula instructed. "Trust me, mouse."

Maven jumped off the bed and Dracula held out his hands to catch him, but Maven turned into a bat and was flying through the air.

Dracula laughed and had a proud smile on his face.

"I can fly! I can fly!" Maven yelled.

"Look at you! Faster, son, faster!" He praised.

Dracula turned into a bat himself and was flying around with Maven.

"Um...excuse me sir?" A monster said.

"What? What?" Dracula asked, a bit frustrated.

Maven accidentally rammed into the wall.

"Ow! I'm okay!" He said.

"It's ready." The monster told him.

...

Dracula and the monster went out onto a balcony to overlook the completed project.

"Looks good. And only monsters can get in?" Dracula asked.

"Oh, absolutely. It's hidden real nicely." The monster promised.

"You got four hundred acres of haunted forest. You got the Land of the Undead on the perimeters. Any humans daring to even look over there will run away real quick."

"But of course, be smart. No bonfires, no firework shows." The worker warned him.

"Yeah, yeah, no, no. No fire, I get it, I get it." Dracula said.

He turned to go back into the house and picked up a photo of Dracula and a woman holding a baby Maven.

"It's time, my darling Martha. The place we always talked about for Maven."

Dracula took Maven's hand and lead him to the revolving doors of a giant building. It looked like a castle, with multiple towers, an outside wall, and a gate, and was extremely tall.

"No one will ever harm him here."
