Wanted: Dead or alive

There had been news from the police about Elliot. They believed they had seen a picture of him in a rental car elsewhere, which made all of the girls very confused since they knew that he was definitely dead

And Lily knew something was wrong when she and Jason got a call from Rosewood PD officer Detective Furey asked them to meet him at Alison's house, so the couple went over to find him and Mary Drake in the dining room

"Officer," Lily nodded "What is this about?"

"We have news about Elliot Rollins's disappearance" he said "We're just waiting for Alison to arrive so that I can update you all on the latest findings we have"

"Of course," Jason said and not a minute later Alison walked in with Spencer in tow

"Detective Furey, thank you so much for waiting." she said as she joined them

"Not a problem at all, Miss DiLaurentis." He smiled and glanced at Spencer behind her "Hello, again."

"Hi." Spencer replied and Lily noticed the nervousness in her voice, making her look between them in confusion

"Please, have a seat." Furey said to Alison who nodded and took a seat at the head of the table "Miss DiLaurentis...This person that you married is actually a man named Archer Dunhill." He turned the tablet in his hands over to show her an image of his real passport "He's 32 years old. Born in Wales."

"What else do you know about him?" asked Jason

"He's wanted in the UK for several counts of petty theft and fraud." He said

"Uh, what about the rental car?" asked Spencer "The traffic camera photo?"

"Uh, we're looking into it." He nodded "Officer Cavanaugh has been dispatched to meet with a number of witnesses personally." He swiped to the next screen on his tablet to show her another image of a rental car certificate "Now, there was a rental car in Rollins' name. We don't believe that Archer Dunhill was in it. But we do suspect that the car rental, train ticket, all this was created to divert our attention from what really happened."

Out of the corner of her eye Lily watched Spencer and Alison glance at each other and she wanted to curse at them for being that obvious "What really happened?" asked Alison

"Uh, we're not exactly sure." He said

"But you have a theory." Jason said and Furey nodded

"Why continue using the credit cards if you've already disappeared?" He said "We suspect he wanted us to find those charges to follow that trail. He's making it look like Archer Dunhill's long gone when, in fact, he could be much closer than we thought."

"Why? Why would he do that?" asked Mary

"Perhaps he's got unfinished business here." Furey suggested "We do believe that Alison's still in danger."

"Oh, my God." Mary whispered

"What are you going to do?" Jason asked angrily

"Now, you have 24-hour police protection and we're doubling our efforts to find him. We will also be giving you, Mr and Mrs Dilaurentis, police protection too. If Archer Dunhill wants to target Alison there is a risk he may try and do that through relatives." Jason nodded appreciatively "But Miss DiLaurentis, I give you my word we will get this guy."

Alison smiled at him and thanked him generously, but when he left the Dilaurentis house, the atmosphere was fearful and nervous. Spencer clearly realised this was a family moment so she left too, and when the door closed behind her Alison sighed and went to the kitchen, so Lily followed her

"Are you okay?" she asked her

"No" Alison said "The police are spending heaps of time and money finding a man who we know where to find. And now they'll be watching us like hawks"

"I know" Lily sighed and it was only then that she caught notice of the red jacket Alison was wearing "Ali, isn't that the jacket-"

"You gave to A.D.? Yeah" she said angrily

"Ali," Lily said "Listen to me. I had no part of that. I wanted no part of that. I never believed you were even slightly guilty, why would you be? The day they found that Mona and I were tailing Mary. But the others were sure it was you so they went through your house and turned it over to A.D."

"How can I trust that?" she asked

"Because I'm your sister. Literally now," she said "I would never, ever do that to you, Ali. You know me."

Alison looked at her as if she was examining her, deciding what she thought. But eventually her face relaxed and she nodded "I do trust you," she said "I'm sorry"

"No I'm sorry" Lily sighed "I'm sorry I let them get that far"

"It's okay" Ali nodded

Lily's phone began to ring so she excused herself to the living room and answered "Hello?"

"He's alive!" exclaimed Hanna "Rollins is alive somehow! First it's that picture of him in the car rental! And he's just called his own burner phone so I answered and he said next time I bury someone I should make sure they're dead! He'll out us to the police, I'm sure of it"

"Hanna" Lily hissed, checking no one else could hear her call "Listen to me, I checked his pulse and he was definitely dead. Whoever called you probably put on a voice or a recording and played it to scare you, that's all it was"

"But that means they know what I did!"

"What we did" Lily said "Hanna we're just as guilty as you and I promise you that none of us will go down for this"

"Do I go to the police?" she asked "Maybe Aria was right and I should go and just say he ran into the road and it was an accident"

"No!" Lily cried "No, Hanna. You can't. Just keep your head low and don't do anything. We'll be fine okay"

She hung up before Hanna could argue and then she and Jason headed home since Jason had to get ready for work. It a while after he left, the front door reopened and this time Caleb Rivers walked in

"Caleb!" Lily cried and ran into his waiting hug "You're back! I've missed you so much"

"I missed you too" he grinned "I just got back yeah, and I didn't know where else to go"

"Well you know you're always welcome here" she smiled "Guest room will always be yours"

"Thanks" he replied

"Can I get you something to eat or drink? I haven't had lunch yet and I'm guessing you haven't either"

"Correct" he smiled and they headed to the kitchen. Together they settled on doing home made pizzas, and as they were busy making them and flicking ingredients at each other, Lily felt nostalgic to all of the nights they used to spend doing this together back in school

Once the pizzas had come out of the oven and they had cleaned all the food off each other and the kitchen surfaces, they settled at her dining table to eat them

While they ate Lily was watching Caleb. His eyes were darting around nervously and his shoulders seemed slumped, either from tiredness or sadness, she couldn't tell. "Is everything okay?" she asked

"Yeah, I feel like going away actually really cleared up my head and now I'm finally thinking straight" he said

"So what are you thinking now?" she asked

"I need to talk to Spencer" he sighed "She's great and I really did care about her...but I don't know. Something just feels off ever since the night Hanna was taken. Like I can be happy with Spencer behind closed doors, but the moment Hanna shows up all I can see is her and I feel so bad for doing that to Spencer, but I can't help it"

"You can't hide yourself from feeling the way you do" said Lily "You and Hanna have a lot of unresolved history and feelings, and you could both date as many people as you wanted and claim you moved on, but the second you two are together again, it's like we're back at school"

"Is it that obvious?" he asked

"Yeah," Lily grinned "But I'm not blaming you. If anything I'm proud of you for being honest with Spencer. You and Hanna need to decide where you stand and then go from there"

"I will" he nodded "Actually I'm meant to go see Spencer now, but I'll tell you how it goes later"

"Good luck," she smiled and gave him a hug before he left

While he was gone Lily got a call from Emily, desperate to meet up for a drink because apparently she had news about Jenna, but like their brunch beforehand she wanted it to look inconspicuous

So the pair met at a little Japanese restaurant nearby and when Lily arrived Emily was waiting at a table, tapping her feet nervously

"What happened?" Lily asked her as she sat down

"Jenna knew Charlotte" she hissed "And Rollins. She was in on it the whole time"

"What?"

Emily then launched into a long explanation. Jenna had heard about Charlotte rotting away at Welby so she went to visit, as a fellow sympathiser to having to deal with Alison. And during her visits there, she met Elliot since he was 'treating' Charlotte. Over time, Charlotte and Jenna had grown closer and  Charlotte had enlisted Jenna to help find her birth mother. Charlotte had also confided in Jenna about she and Elliot's plan for Elliot to win over Alison, so that he would convince her Charlotte was doing better and could be dismissed from Welby. So Jenna had helped him get a passport and a new identity so that he and Charlotte could leave and be together.

"Oh my god," Lily whispered "That must be why Jenna came back. There's no way she had just suddenly shown up for Toby."

"Yeah and when I left, Sara warned me to stay away because apparently it wasn't safe" Emily added "I thought she meant Jenna, but she said it was someone else. And before she could give me a name Jenna called for her"

"What so now we're in danger from Mary, Sara, Jenna, A.D., and this person" Lily sighed "This is ridiculous. How much longer are we going to have to hide?"

"I know. It feels like whenever we get over one hurdle, someone places a brick wall in front of us to climb"

"Surely sooner or later this has to end?" she asked "Like one day we'll get over the wall and on the other side will just be fields of flowers and rainbows and shit"

"I wish" she sighed "But there's something about this place. Being here just causes chaos. When we were all gone we could live our own lives but then we came back here and suddenly it's like we never left. I feel like we're in high school again"

"Me too" she nodded "Looking over our shoulders at every turn, terrified someone was watching us. Lying to the people we care about. Feeling trapped in our own homes"

"The day we get out of this town for good, I'm never looking back," said Emily "Just keep going"

"Same," Lily nodded. Her phone rang and she saw it was from Rosewood PD so she quickly answered it "Hello?"

"Mrs Dilaurentis, it's Detective Furey." he said "Alison Dilaurentis was attacked in her home tonight and she's very shaken so we need you to come and see her"

"How did this happen?" she asked while putting on her coat. Emily looked at her in confusion but Lily just gestured for her to follow along, so Emily did

"We're not sure yet but it appears whoever did it wore a mask and a cop's uniform to trick her into thinking she was safe with them" he explained and by now Lily was getting in her car with Emily

"Okay, thank you, I'm on my way" she hung up and immediately slammed her foot on the accelerator, driving at lightning speed to Ali's house, while explaining the situation to Emily

When they arrived they ran inside and Furey directed them upstairs to Ali's bedroom, where she was being treated for a cut on her face

"Are you okay?" Lily exclaimed as they stepped over broken glass and wood splinters

"I am" she nodded and let the two girls hug her, and suddenly behind them came Hanna and Spencer who had come to check on Ali too

"What happened?" asked Spencer

"He was dressed up like a cop." she said shakily "He had on another mask. He could have killed me, but I think the police sirens scared him off."

"It was really him, wasn't it?" whispered Hanna

Lily, who was standing in front of Alison, looked past the girl and spotted the writing on Alison's wall. In clear red spray paint, obviously meant to represent blood, was written Honey, I'm home!

Jason arrived too and he decided Ali would be staying with him and Lily that night, so the three of them made their way to their house. Jason led Ali upstairs to Lily's parents's old room since Caleb was going to be in the spare one, and Lily went. to make some tea to calm Ali down

While she waited for the kettle to boil her phone buzzed so she opened it

Unknown number

Did you like my message, honey?

Lily couldn't take her eyes off the last word. Her mind was flashing between that and it written on Alison's wall. If whoever had been texting her was behind this, Lily didn't think they had been trying to kill Alison tonight. It looked like they were trying to threaten her. And if this person was back in town then she was in more danger than she thought.
