Chapter 9

* Liz *

"Are you ready for this?" Louis asked from beside me.

I shrugged. "I guess. Do you already have my grave dug?"

He laughed and shook his head. "No no. You aren't going to fall. These stairs are made to be used, therefore, they are safe." He said.

I nodded. "But still. One of them could break and then we could all fall down the...yeah..."

"If you're scared, don't go." Niall said.

I only wanted to go because it was only Niall and Louis coming. Lou isn't a snitch. If Ni held my hand, he wouldn't care.

He doesn't make everything a big bloody deal.

"I want to go. For memory purposes. How many people can say they climbed the Haiku Stairs?" I asked.

"Not many. Good point love." Niall agreed. I nodded and went into my room to change.

"Come on! Let's go! Let's go!" Louis yelled. I grabbed my phone and RayBans at the last second and came into the living room.

Everyone was in there already.

"Liz! Don't wear your good boots!" Liam said.

"These aren't my good ones! My good ones are at home!" I corrected.

"But the ones at home are identical, you just never wear the other ones." Liam said.

"Exactly." I said. He gave me a weird look, which I ignored.

I have an exact pair of these boots which I don't wear....just in case this pair gets ruined.

It's a girl thing. Lads don't understand.

"Okay. Louis, Niall and Liz. Please be careful there. You boys have to look after her." Liam ordered.

I rolled my eyes. Here he goes, thinking I'm a baby again. I am not!

"We got her." Niall said, wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me to him.

Butterflies erupted in my stomach.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Let's go now. BYE LIAM!" I yelled, making my way to the door.

~

I definitely underestimated how hard climbing these stairs would actually be.

The stairs obviously started on the ground which then started to spiral upwards, and in total there were a load of stairs to climb.

"Woah. How many stairs do we have to go up?" I asked, looking up at the mountain.

"Well. I heard that someone counted the stairs as they went to the very top, and counted 3,922 stairs." Louis said.

"We're going to the top right?" I asked.

"Of course!" Niall said, he walked in front of me, in the lead. "Why would you not?"

"This is going to kill my legs."

We went up about 20 stairs.

"You guys are going to slow! You have run up them!" Louis said, running way past us.

"That's stupid! You're going to use all your energy up!" I yelled up to him.

"Guys, I have no regrets!" I heard him yell.

I came up to Niall side by side.

"Hi." He smiled.

"Hey." I said back.

"This is pretty cool, don't you think?" He asked.

"Yeah. Very good Instagram opportunities too." I said.

"After we get home. No one can know we are here right now." Niall reminded me.

"Oh, yeah." I frowned.

"After we can." Ni sing-songed, kicking a rock with his foot.

"I AM COUNTING THE STEPS! SO FAR I'M AT 203!" Louis yelled.

I laughed and looked up at him, even with my sunglasses on, the sun was very very bright.

"Have fun counting to 3,930." I said.

"No! It's 3,922! Get it right!" Lou said.

I rolled my eyes. "Same thing."

"You look beautiful today, love."

I blushed. The sun on my skin added to the heat and I felt like I was on fire.

"Thank you."

In about 30 minutes, we were about 3/4 of the way to the top.

"How does he have that much energy?!" I asked. Louis was completely out of sight now.

Niall laughed and shook his head. "I dunno. We're almost there though." He smiled.

"I'm exhausted." I said. Niall reached down, finding my hand and locking it with his.

"We got this." He said.

Off into the distance, I heard Louis yell; "I MADE IT!!!!! COME ON!"

"Ready to run?" I asked. He nodded and we ran the rest of the way up the stairs.

We found Louis looking over the ledge at the Earth down below us. It seemed as you could see the whole island.

It was beautiful.

Niall squeezed my had and smiled. "We did it."

I grinned. "Isn't it beautiful?" Louis asked.

"More than beautiful." I said. We took tons of pictures and stayed at the top for a while.

"Lads..." I said.

"Yeah?" They asked.

"We forgot that we have to go 3,922 stairs back down!"

~

"I NEED WATER!" I said.

"Why didn't you bring any?" Louis asked.

He turned down the street that the beach house was on.

"Well, If I'm not mistaken, you were rushing me! Plus, I don't plan things well." I said.

He laughed from the front. Niall handed me a water bottle.

"Take the rest of mine." He said.

I made a face. "But you drank out of it."

"Liz." He said. I rolled my eyes and drank the rest of his water.

"Watch me turn into a leprechaun or something now." I said.

"You're funny. That joke is so old and highly irritating." He said sarcastically, getting out of the car.

I did the same. "I know." I threw the empty bottle at him, which he threw in the outside bin.

I took Louis' keys out of his hand, unlocking the house.

"Liz! Come in here!" Liam yelled from the kitchen.

I groaned and let go of Ni's hand and came into the kitchen.

I stopped dead in my tracks.

"James came to visit!" Liam said happily.

No. No. No.

"Hey Liz!" James smiled, pulling me into a hug which I hated more than anything.

"Nice to see you again." I said dryly. I sat down at the counter as Liam and James talked.

I pulled out my phone and texted Niall,

' Meet me in my room in about 5 minutes. I think I have something to confess... '
