What if...?

Mmmmmmmmm 24k.....my Lord if I finish this book at 30k or something I'll scream (with happiness :3 )

---Dream's POV----

I had walked ahead of Nightmare and Cross on the way home, not wanting to talk to them or have to hear them talking. I was rather hoping Killer would have walked home with us, but he had already left by the time we were out of class.

I reached the road and checked left and right, making sure that there were no cars or bikes coming in my direction. Seeing there were none, I stepped out and started crossing the road.

I had got about halfway across as a sudden loud crash rang out, making me freeze. I turned to see a car screech round the corner and rocket towards me, the driver clearly out of control.

I tried to run but I couldn't. I was frozen in terror as the car came screaming towards me, showing no intention to stop or swerve out of the way.

I was aware of Nightmare screaming my name, yelling at me to run, but I couldn't, my feet were stuck to the pavement.

Suddenly something long and shiny shot past my view and slammed into the car tire, making it swerve violently. At the same time I felt something wrap around my waist and squeeze before I was yanked to the side harshly, the car swerving again suddenly and hitting my hand as it screeched past and slammed into a car parked on the road with a crash.

I cried out in pain and clutched my hand as I was pulled from the road into Nightmare. He gripped me tightly and looked down at me, the tentacle round my waist loosening.

I was tense from shock, not really understanding what had happened, too shocked to cry for a moment. But when it suddenly hit me, I cried my eyes out, terrified of what had nearly happened to me.

What would have happened if Nightmare had been a second too late?
What if I had walked home alone, like I was planning too?
What if Nightmare had simply watched and let it happen?

I sobbed and gripped Nightmare, barely aware of him questioning me frantically. I didn't try to understand what he was saying and just gripped him tighter, crying uncontrollably.

Any hate or annoyance I had been feeling towards Nightmare had vanished. Maybe if I'd just been accepting, we'd have all walked together and crossed the road at the same time, with the car having already screeched round the corner and zoomed past us.

I shakily looked up as Nightmare stopped talking. He was looking at something. I shifted in his grip, whimpering at the pain in my hand, he was watching Cross.

Cross had left our side and was now walking over to the car, a pissed expression on his face. He didn't go to confront the driver though. He simply crouched down next to the front wheel and gripped something tightly before yanking it out.

My eyes widened as I realised it was a knife. That was the long and shiny thing that has flew in front of me and stabbed into the car wheel, causing it to swerve violently.

So if he hadn't thrown that, the car probably would have hit me, unless Nightmare would have yanked me out of the way just in time.

Nightmare and I watched Cross as he clicked his fingers and the giant knife disappeared. I looked at him in shock and glanced up at Nightmare. He either knew he could do that already, or didn't care because his expression stayed the same.

He looked down at me, a frown of worry on his face. "Dream? Are you okay?"

I gripped him tighter and glanced at my bad hand. It looked fine, but it's incredibly painful. Nightmare took it gently and looked at it, growling silently under his breath.

I closed my eyes and leaned against him, feeling safer if I'm close.

Nightmare sighed and scooped me gently into his arms and and stood up slowly. Cross came over to us quickly and looked between the two of us nervously.

Nightmare muttered something to him and Cross glanced back at the car before shaking his head and whispering something back. I shut my eyes tightly in an attempt to stop my tears, not wanting to look looked like a baby.

I heard Nightmare mutter something to Cross again before I felt that he'd started walking. I didn't look to see where we were going, it's obvious we're going home, then Cross will have to keep going and go back to his place. I'm sure him staying over yesterday was a one time thing.

I wriggled in Nightmare's arms a bit, getting comfortable before sighing and drifting off.

---Nightmare's POV----

I glanced down at Dream as he went limp, panicking for a moment. But I sighed in relief and smiled as I realised he'd simply fallen asleep.

We got home fairly quickly and I glanced around as we reached the driveway. I slowed down as I realised Cross wasn't by my side anymore. I turned around to see him stood nervously at the top of the driveway, an unsure expression on his face.

He thinks I'm gonna kick him out.

I smirked. "You gonna come in and help me or just stand there?"

Immediately Cross' face seemed to light up and he quickly came over to me. "There's a spare key under the pot over there." I said, pointing to an old flower pot with a tentacle.

Cross nodded and walked over to it, crouching down and lifting up the pot. The small spare key was lying there like it always was. Cross picked it up and put the pot down before walking over to the door and inserting the key into the lock.

As soon as we walked in the house we both sighed, the warmth of the rooms a welcoming change from the snowy temperature outside.

I carried Dream upstairs with me, taking him over to his room so he could rest properly. He wriggled as I put him down on the bed, obviously trying to get comfortable as he drifted deeper into sleep.

I watched him for around a minute, making sure he was settled before I walked out of his room and back downstairs to Cross.

---Error's POV----

I watched as Ink attempted to skate across the ice on the pavement, trying to get the right angle so he could slide gracefully forwards.

I laughed as he let out a yelp, tripping and falling for the fourth time. I smirked and looked down at him. "Need some help sir?"

Ink huffed and look at my outstretched arm. He sighed and grasped it, letting me pull him to his feet. I pulled him up and he let out a squeak as he slipped on the ice again, making me grab him and clutch him to my chest.

He looked up at me and blushed and I smirked in return. We stood there for a moment doing noting other than looking into each others eyes when suddenly the sound of a camera going off sounded out followed by the muffled whisper of "Shit."

I stood up fully and looked around, still holding Ink to me tightly. He also looked around for the source of the noise, both curious as to who was there and why they were taking pictures.

I glanced at Ink and he shrugged, gripping my arm and pulling me along. "It was probably nothing...C'mon."

I looked back and narrowed my eyes, but let Ink pull me along, back in the direction of my house.

As we walked I occasionally glanced behind us quickly, and more than a few times I've spotted someone dart behind a bin or jump in a bush once they'd realised I'm watching them.

Ink leaned against me as we walked and I shook my head.

I'm probably just going crazy.
