Chapter 13: Playing the Part

****************Keefe***************

Keefe sat in the chair he'd been strapped in for almost a day now. He had sweat all down his body, his hair hung down in his face. He had burns all over his arms, face, and hands. He looked around to try to find Elvie. Keefe has seen what they had done to her. They had tried to use her against him. He had simply said that he wouldn't tell where the Black Swan hid and Elvie had to be tortured. He wished it didn't have to be like that. Keefe searched through his memories of when he had seen her. Something felt off. He had yelled for them to stop torturing her, then everything went black, then when he came back he told everyone he would never tell, and Elvie had been right in front of him. He could've reached out and wiped the tears that she was crying from her face. What had happened?

"Keefe," a gruff angry voice shook him awake.

"What do you want?" Keefe manages as he came back from his thoughts. He was looking up at Fintan. "You viper! What did you do to Elvie? She is a fighter, she never would have broken down like that. To stoop so low to be a part of the Neverseen is unlikely even for her!" he yelled.

Fintan chuckled. "She was almost borne into the Neverseen. Her mother is among the highest of our sponsors," he grinned, showing worn, yellowing teeth. Keefe looked away, sick.

"Anyways. I brought you food kid. Be grateful cause it's all we have," Fintan said, pushing a bowl with some dark sludge in it.

Keefe looked at it warily. "What's in it?"

Fintan snorted. "Who cares? It's food."

Keefes hands were untied and Fintan left. He knew others were watching him, probably reading his mind. Let me out you alicorn-poop eaters! he thought. Keefe looked at the grey sludge again and picked up the spoon. He stuck it in the sludge and pulled out a bite. He gagged as he held it up to his nose. "This smells a lot like a Sasquatch..." he said. He plugged his nose and stuck the spoon into his mouth again. The sludge squished and jiggled in his mouth. He tried so hard to get it down, but it wouldn't. He had already thrown up many times, so this time wasn't any better. He threw the spoon and bowl as far as he could, hoping to hit one of his stalkers. It clanged against the wall. He folded his arms and sighed. A peculiar thought entered his brain. I'm sixteen today. So much for 'happy' birthday. Keefe shook his head. It was going to be a long day.

****************Sophie**************

"Thank heavens you guys didn't get this place burned down to the ground!" Sophie said as they landed at a small cottage in the woods.

Elvie nodded silently. "Guys I'm going to let Pegasus go, so if you want to go inside, I'm going to talk to him," she said, jumping off the back of the sparkly blue horse.

Sophie nodded as Fitz jumped down. He held his hand out for her to use to get down and she gladly took it. They walked inside and sat down on the tiny couch.

"Sophie?" Fitz asked quietly. She looked over at him.

"Yes?"

He cleared his throat. "I'm so sorry for everything. For not knowing who you are, or why I was looking for you. Though I believe you when you told me we told each other that we liked each other. You truly are the most beautiful elf I have ever met." He winked.

Sophie blushed really hard and smiled. "Thanks. You will be back to normal in no time. Don't worry Fitz. There's a reason we are Cognates in training." She winked back at him. He smiled. Elvie walked in to the cottage.

"I'm guessing you asked for a little backup?" she said. Sophie nodded. Elvie opened the door wider to show Alden, Della, Dex, and Biana standing right outside. Sophie and Fitz both ran up to Alden and hugged him.

"I can't believe you're here!!" Sophie shouted. She let go of Alden and hugged Biana. Della was hugging Fitz now.

"We can't either. Elvie, you lived in this place, for how many years?" Alden asked.

She just smiled. "Eight years."

They all sat down on the couch. "I think we should get some sleep..." Elvie said. Sophie noticed that everyone but Elvie and Fitz had dark circles under their eyes.

They all nodded and wandered up to the many different rooms. Sophie found one that she was sure was Elvie's and flopped onto the bed. She fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

*****************Fitz****************

"So we are going to give me back my memories then go save Keefe?" Fitz asked. Everyone had just woken up and he wanted to clarify their plans. Elvie had apparently not slept, she had dark circles under her eyes.

"Yes. But you see, I need to do this on my own. Fitz, Sophie, Dex, and Biana, I need you guys to go to the Black Swan hideout and tell them that the neverseen will be vulnerable. Help them make a plan, then while you guys are doing that I'm going to go to the Neverseen hideout. I'm going to portray myself as one of the leaders right hand people and get Keefe out. Dragon style," she smirked. Sophie looked at her uncomfortably.

"I really don't think you should do it on your own. What if something happened? We would never know.." Dex said.

Elvie smiled. "Well you have the ring you gave Sophie. What if I wore the ring and if I got in trouble, I pressed the panic button. Then you guys, with your army, can come and get us out. Remember I have the most experience with the Neverseen."

"Yeah, just like Keefe. No wonder they like each other," Biana said under her breath.

Sophie looked over at Alden. "We need to give Fitz his memories back of me."

Alden nodded. "Be my guest."

Sophie looked at Fitz. "Could we have some privacy? This might take awhile."

Fitz blushed and looked away as everyone else got up. Sophie moved over to the couch he was sitting on.

"Fitz? I'm going to need permission to enter your mind," Sophie asked, sitting down next to him. She had tears in her eyes. "Okay, What are you going to do?"

She sighed. "I'm going to try and transmit one memory. If it doesn't bring a flood of memories back I'm gonna send more. Remember, my memories are clear, so you will have to just not react to them so badly this time."

He nodded and Sophie placed her hands on his temples. Fitz felt warmth, then suddenly a single, happy memory popped in his head. He watched in shock as he seemed to look up at himself.

"Sophie, to be the best Cognate I can be, I think it's time I tell you my biggest secret."

"Would you like me to too?"

Fitz watched himself shake his head. "No, I'm ready. You don't have to if you aren't ready."

Fitz felt Sophie's stomach lurch as he watched himself lean down and kiss her.

Suddenly a rush of memories came back like a river. Fitz seeing Sophie for the first time in the museum. He taking her to the Lost cities for the first time. The time he had helped her when she had to gas her parents. The time she had had an allergic reaction and he had carried her to Elwin. The time he had woken up in Elwin's office because Sophie had used a brain push. The time he had gone to her funeral. The times when he had given her gifts. The time when they were so close to getting Sophie to share her secret. Everything rushed back. All his feelings, emotions, the sounds.

Fitz looked up at Sophie, as she took her fingers off his temples. She put a hand on his cheek and he leaned against it. "I can't believe they tried to hide that from me. I promise that will never happen again," he said. He stood up and hugged Sophie. She smiled and started crying. They were alone. Fitz smirked. He looked down at Sophie and kissed her. He kissed her firmly, pulling her closer to him. She was in shock for a little bit, then leaned into the kiss. He pulled away, the two gasping for breath. He kissed her neck and kissed her again on the lips. This time it was a light kiss. She smiled in it and he let go of her a little bit.

"There's my Fitz," she smiled.

Little did they know, Alden and Della were watching from the stairs above. Della was crying and Alden was smirking.

*****************Elvie***************

"Alright here is the plan," Elvie said, putting her hands on the table. It was later on, after everyone had had some time to catch up on everything. Alden, Della, Dex, Biana, Sophie and Fitz were sitting at the other ends of the table. A paper was laid out of the Neverseen hideout and what they know so far.

"I am going to hijack a group of Neverseen here, Sophie will convince all the others that I was sent from really high up to check up on everything blah blah blah, I put on the neverseen cloak thingy and find Keefe. I deceive the neverseen and let Keefe out, turning dragon and flying the both of us out of there. The more Everblaze I unleash, the better," Elvie looked over at Sophie, who nodded.

She continued. "While I'm doing that, Sophie and Fitz will light leap to the black swans hideout. You will gather an army, and if I can't get out of the neverseen hideout because something goes wrong, you come with that army. Dex, Sophie, I'm going to need Sophie's ring," Elvie said pointing to the ring on Sophie's thumb.

"The panic button?" she asked. Elvie nodded. Sophie hesitantly took it off and handed it to Elvie. She put it on silently and continued.

"Alden, I'm going to need you to send a message to my brother if this works. If it doesn't, I need you to let him know. We will have plenty of space for the Black Swan in our castle, and it is fortified. The guards all listen to me and Elvan. Our mother abandoned the castle to join the Neverseen. General Sivoe has commanded the guards to, if they come in contact with the Queen, to arrest her immediately. She will be put in Exile for the rest of her life," Elvie said angrily. Her hands curled up in fists.

"What message exactly?" Alden asked. Elvie shook her head.

"I will let you know if something goes wrong. I will send it to Sophie telepathically, and she will send it to you."

Alden nodded. Della raised a hand.

"Yes, Mrs. Vacker?" Elvie asked.

"Della, dear. What will I be doing?"

Della asked.

Elvie sat down. "I was thinking of you helping the Council realize the event that is happening at hand. We need your vanishing abilities if we need to retreat to our castle."

Della nodded. Biana looked at Elvie questioningly. Elvie nodded to her.

Why do you still want to save Keefe?

Sophie was looking at Elvie.

Because, even if he doesn't love me, I'm still not letting any of my... my... my friends be tortured by the Neverseen.

You think of us as friends?

Elvie nodded, tears in her eyes. Sophie smiled.

"Ok, when are we going to do this plan?" Alden asked. Elvie sighed.

"How about tomorrow morning? We need sleep, and I need to prepare myself for tomorrow. There are beds upstairs. Sophie, Biana, you can take my bed," Elvie said.

Sophie and Biana looked at each other. "What about you?"

"I'll take the couch," Elvie said, nodding her head towards the soft couch in the corner. Sophie and Biana looked towards it and then shared a look.

Alden and Della walked up the stairs, Biana at their heels. Elvie went over to the couch and sat down quietly. She looked up when she heard voices.

"Fitz?"

"Hm?"

"Are you ok?"

"Ya, I just need to take a small breather."

I should not be here. Elvie thought. She had just realized Fitz and Sophie might want alone time, and here she was, eavesdropping. Crap

"Fitz?"

"Yeah?"

"Could you be mine forever?" Sophie said flirtatiously. Elvie saw Fitz pull Sophie in for a hug.

"Of course I can."

Then everything went silent. Elvie snuck a look, and immediately froze. Fitz was kissing Sophie on the lips. She kissed his check, her arms wrapped around his neck. He held her and they kissed fiercely. She played with his hair and sighed. They stood there for a long 3 minutes (so far) and for Elvie it was super awkward. She laid down on the couch and tried to go to sleep, but all she could hear was Sophie and Fitz.

She finally fell asleep to thinking of Keefe.

That night:

"Ah, the girl of the hour. Here she is again. You seemed pretty angry with her last time... telling her you didn't love her..." a voice said. Elvie was strapped up again and facing Keefe. There was liquid everywhere and he had dark circles under his eyes. He was pale and was super sweaty. He almost looked sick.

"I'm not telling you where the Black Swan is."

"You still love her and we know it. Tell us now!" the man speaking went up to Keefe and slapped him.

"Stop it!" Elvie yelled. The man whipped towards her and yelled.

"Stay out of this Menagerie. Your time will come. Plus why would you want him? He is such a low-life. If you want to have some romance in your life you should go for someone, more suitable."

Elvie laughed. "Keefe's suitable enough for me," she said looking into his eyes. They smiled at each other.

The man suddenly growled. "Menagerie, you can not have feelings for this boy!"

"Why not?!" Keefe asked. The man turned to slap him again.

"You know very well why. She and Fitz are betrothed. They can't be with anyone else."

"I don't care what you do to me. I will NEVER be with Fitz," Elvie yelled.

The man nodded stiffly. Then he wheeled around and punched Keefe in the face, knocking him out.

"NO!"

"You did this, Menagerie. Come and get him."

The dream ended as Elvie woke up with a jolt. Fitz and Sophie had gone upstairs. Morning light was streaming through the windows. Elvie got up and walked to the kitchen where she started cooking.

She was going to come for Keefe. Whether he liked her or not.

Elvie waited for everyone else to wake up. They came downstairs in a straggle.

"Hey guys. I made breakfast," she smiled.

Biana yawned sleepily. "Awww Elvie!"

Elvie set down multiple bowls of soup, too tired to use telekinesis. They all slumped down into their chairs and ate quietly.

"Ok this stuff might be better than mallowmelt," Fitz laughed. Elvie smiled.

"Thanks."

Are you nervous? Elvie heard Sophie's voice in her mind.

Yes. I had another dream of him last night. It gave me hope.

Hope?

I'll show you afterwards.

Sophie nodded.

"All right, everyone. Today is the day. Fitz, Sophie, we will leave in about 10 to 20 minutes. Della and Biana go to Lumenaria castle. Tell the guards you come with my permission and would like to see Elvandre. Alden, Dex, you two go to the Black Swan hideout and let them know what's going on," Elvie said. "Take your time saying goodbye. But remember it isn't goodbye forever. We will do this. We can do this."

Everyone nodded and Elvie grabbed all the bowls. Fitz and Sophie sat down on the couch and Alden was hugging Della. Elvie made her way over to Fitz and Sophie. She sat down across from them. "I can't transmit things, so will you...?"

Sophie nodded understandingly. She came forward and put her fingers on my temples. She stood here for a minute, then backed away, gasping for breath.

"That's horrid. Was that throw up all over the floor?" she asked as Fitz caught her.

Elvie let a few tears slip as she nodded. "You're right, they are torturing him..." Sophie managed.

Fitz scowled. "We cannot fail."

A few minutes later, everyone gathered outside. Della and Biana were on Elvan's horse, and Alden and Dex were holding up a pathfinder. Fitz and Sophie were holding hands. Elvie was wearing dark black pants and a forest green tunic. She had a neverseen cape around her, the armband clear for anyone to see. She put the hood up so that no one could see any part of her face. Sophie looked at her warily.

Everyone said goodbye to each other then one by one they left.

"So Sophie?" Elvie said after everyone was gone. "Is there a way we can transport like this or do you have to be falling??"

Sophie looked at her sadly. "Falling."

Elvie sighed. "Here let me find a place we can fall, just don't look too creeped out ok?"

She turned into the wolf and barked happily. Her sleek fur and long legs made it easier to smell out a place. She had finally found one, and came padding back through the clearing to Sophie and Fitz, who, were hugging and most definitely not kissing. Elvie turned human again and smirked.

"Save it for a secret place would ya?" She said teasingly. Sophie and Fitz broke apart, the two of them blushing hard.

"Wow, you almost sounded like Keefe for a minute there," Fitz said, completely surprised.

Elvie almost looked hurt. "Well at least I'm doing something right. I found a place we can do it, but it's tricky to get there. You will have to ride my horse form..."

Sophie and Fitz shared a look. Fitz shrugged. "Ok."

Elvie turned into the beautiful red horse and whinnied. Sophie smiled as she and Fitz got on the horse. They cantered through the woods to a large cliff. Sophie and Fitz got off the horse, Fitz smirking because Sophie had clung very tightly to him the entire ride.

"See? Not that bad was it?" he said, helping her off.

Sophie rolled her eyes but grinned. Elvie turned human again and stared down at the cliff. "I'm not good with jumping off cliffs. If nothing happens, let me know and I will turn into.." she coughed awkwardly. Sophie nodded. They held hands and jumped off on the count of three. They free fell, then suddenly were enveloped in a black darkness. Then suddenly they were behind some bushes looking into a cave.

They had made it to the Neverseen Hideout.

*****************Keefe**************

Keefe couldn't bear to have seen Elvie so sad. Had he really said that he didn't love her? He really didn't mean it. After all, he had no recollection of telling her he hated her...

He hung his head low. He hadn't eaten a single thing the past 24 hours, and he could tell something was not right in his body. His head felt clammy, foggy, his heart thumped slowly sometimes, then went rapid at others, his legs felt tingly. A sudden noise woke him up from his trance.

"Here he is, Madam. The prisoner. He will tell us where the neverseen have hidden themselves. The cowards.." Brant said, walking into the room with a short figure behind him.

"Thank you. Now let me talk to the prisoner alone," a sweet, soft voice said. Brant looked at the figure and bowed.

"Ma'am, I think we should give you guards, security personnel?"

She waved him off. "He is not anything that could kill me, am I right? What is he??"

"An Empath, M'lady."

"Alright then. I'm powerful enough I don't need your security tricks. I came here fine on my own, didn't I?"

Brant nodded. "Of course. Take as long as you need." He turned and strode out of the room.

The small figure turned towards Keefe. "Hello, you must be Keefe. I barely recognized you," she said. It almost sounded sad, rushed.

"Hmm, funny. I don't remember ever meeting you," he snapped back. She smiled.

"Keefe, Keefe, Keefe," she shook her head back and forth. Keefe barely noticed the figure was shuffling towards him. "I'd honestly think you were one of us with your bad attitude. Most people like us are not emotionally challenged. You seem to have a mixture of thoughts going through your head about me." She had walked up to him, now a few inches from his face.

"Keefe," was all she said, in an not-so-ancient voice. Keefe jumped back a little, surprised.

"El- Elvie?!" He whispered. She nodded her head and pulled her hood back far enough to show her beautiful red hair and ocean blue eyes. She put the hood back down and went back to her pacing. "Now what should we do with you?" she asked in her ancient voice again.

Keefe, I'm breaking you out. You'll have to be able to climb onto my back when I turn into my fighting/flying form. Will you be able to?

The small figure, Elvie, turned towards Keefe. He nodded, barely and the figure walked over to him again. She silently untied his bonds.

3.....2......1!

Elvie turned into a gigantic white dragon with gold spikes. She looked over at Keefe who got up from his chair and climbed up on the back of the dragon. He held on tightly to the spikes as Elvie started to charge through the cavern. Hooded

Neverseen scrambled to get out of the way of Elvie's gigantic claws.

Brant, Fintan, Gisela and Ruy came out of a separate cave and stared up at her in shock. Elvie saw hem and immediately blew Everblaze at them. Ruy barely had time to react, as the Everblaze hit the small force field he made.

"You idiot!" Gisela yelled at Brant. "That wasn't her Majesty! It was Menagerie!!" She hit him. Brant caught her cape on fire and she started screaming at him again, taking off her cloak and stomping out the flames. Elvie heard Keefe laughing his head off from behind her.

Elvie ran through the cave, neverseen trying to stop her everywhere she looked. Ropes caught on her horns and spikes, but she pulled through them. They made it out of the cave and she opened her wings, flapping. She turned around and blew a large amount of Everblaze at the entrance of the cave.

Elvie hurried and flew above the forest and landed in the middle of a clearing. Keefe jumped off her back and she turned human again. They ran to the forest.

"Ellvorie Mattan, you have no idea how happy I am to see you," Keefe said pulling her into a hug. She fought her way away from him.

"Your welcome," she said frustratingly. Keefe gave her a weird look and noticed she was crying.

"What's wrong?"

She wiped her eyes. "It's ok. Never mind."

He nodded, unsure. She took a pathfinder out of her pocket. "Take this back to the black swan hideout," she said looking at his eyes. Keefe looked at her painfully.

"You know, they made me say that. They have a mesmer," he said, not taking the pathfinder. She closed her eyes and breathed out deeply.

"My mom is a mesmer. It just seemed... so real. Keefe, I- I really like you Keefe," she said, crying again. He walked closer to her again.

"I really like you too Elvorrie," he said, smirking. They stood there for a bit, then Elvie blinked back into reality. "Oh crap. Hurry, take this," she said, stuffing the pathfinder and a ring into his hands. "Now go!"

Keefe gaped at her. "Why can't you come?"

"They can track me," she said sadly. Keefe felt like he was punched in the gut. "I was never really there whenever they used me against you. They tracked me, projected me into the board they had me tied up against. It wasn't normal projecting though. I could feel the pain, see the horrible happening, feel the emotions. Keefe, I can't go with you. I wish I could. I have to destroy them."

Keefe looked at her sadly and switched the facet to a certain one. "I trust you," he said, then glittered away.

Keefe returned to the place he really loved, one that felt like home. Everglen. A pair of arms wrapped around him immediately followed by three more.

"Keefe you're alive!"

"Keefe!"

"You scared us so much!"

Keefe was released by all the arms. "Guys, it's o-"

"WHERE IS ELVIE?!" Sophie yelled. Apparently the two had become really close.

"She didn't want to come back, she said she had to fight back," Keefe said. "She gave me these," he said, holding out the pathfinder and ring.

Dex picked up the ring. "This is the panic button ring she said she might need. Which means-"

"She couldn't have gone back to them! She wouldn't dare!" Keefe yelled before Dex could finish. They stared at each other for a little while and then Dex shook his head.

"Turns out we will have to fight," Fitz said, coming up from behind Sophie and taking her hand.

*****************Elvie***************

Elvie looked around her. Trees everywhere, the neverseen could be hiding right behind the bushes. She willed herself to turn into her wolf form and sniff around. She immediately stumbled back. The sickening sweet smell of fire burned into her wet nose, and made her fur rise up, her hackles bristling. Suddenly something grabbed her from behind. She twisted and tried to fight her way out of the person's hands as the were strangling her. A sweet scent was put up against her nose and she tried to fight it, but the darkness surrounded her.

Elvie woke up in a room on a bed. At least she hadn't woken up in a chair like Keefe's. Then she realized she was strapped down. Maybe laying down was worse. She heard a door open and footsteps coming from the other side of the room.

"Your majesty, my... my princess..."

The person talking almost sounded, Sad?

Elvie tried to looked at him but all she saw was a hunched figure in a black cloak. He sounded young too.

"What do you want with me?"

The figure turned around. "You obviously don't know."

Elvie squinted to try and see under his hood. "Know what?"

He laughed, sending chills up her spine. "After your excursion to save your friend, we found dead bodies everywhere. Do you realize who's body we found?"

Elvie looked at him. Then smiled. "Hopefully every member of the neverseen."

The figure shook his head slowly.

"No... your mother."

The words were like someone had put their hands around Elvie's neck, squeezing so she couldn't breath. She didn't know whether to cry or laugh. Instead she laid there, gasping for breaths, willing herself to breath.

"I... I killed my mother?" She asked pensively. The figure nodded. He released her bonds and she sat up. She looked up at the hooded figure.

"Who are you?" she asked. He stood there for a minute, then slowly lifted the hood from off his head. Percy.

Elvie glared at him. "This is all your fault."

Percy looked as if it were debatable. "You're right, I guess."

She glared at him. "Ok fine it's my fault. But you don't realize, I don't have a choice. They push me around and tell me what to do. Which reminds me, now that your mom is... gone, you don't have to be with Fitz anymore. But they still don't want you to be with you know who..."

Elvie glared at him again. He sighed. "Don't hate me Elvie. Honestly."

"I can't help it. It's like you think you're such a somebody. The Neverseen are treating you like crap. Like they did to me when I was little. Percy, come away with me. Join the Black Swan. They can win this. They won't boss us around," she said, standing up and walking towards him. His gaze softened.

"Elvie, I... I can't..." he said looking at her intensely. She suddenly felt really scared. She was really close to Percy, like, REALLY close. He had leaned down and a few inches were between their lips. No..Yes..No! You don't like Percy! You like Keefe! You can't!

But it's your first kiss....

Elvie looked up at him and he leaned down a bit more. She hugged him tighter.

"Please join us. Join the right cause."

He looked at her as she said it, hugging her back. "I can't," he said, his lips brushing against hers as he leaned down to kiss her. It was her first kiss. It was short and sweet, nothing too much. She shook her head in shock.

"What?" he said, grinning. She stared up at him and pushed away from him.

"I've never kissed anyone before."

"Well... didn't it feel good?" he asked.

She hesitated. "I guess..." she turned back around and Percy was behind her again.

"Why do you like him so much?" Percy asked. Elvie hesitated.

"Keefe is the one who found me. He became my friend. He is like me in so many ways it's almost as if we are...meant to be..." Elvie looked up at Percy again. "Why?"

He turned around and shook his head.

"Come join the Black Swan. You can get us out of here," Elvie said.

"I hate seeing you suffer. So I will help you get out. If the neverseen catch me they will torture me. I can't come with you."

"The. Black. Swan. Will. Protect. You!" Elvie said for the millionth time. He looked at her sadly.

"Fine" was all Percy said. He left Elvie in the middle of the room and walked to the entrance of the cave. He walked out, and within two seconds he had gotten another cloak. He threw it to her.

"Thanks," she mumbled, putting it on.

"Let's go," Percy held out his hand and she took it, and then Percy held a pathfinder up to the light. They walked into the beam of light and vanish.

Elvie stumbled back into reality when her feet hit hard stone. Something bright was ahead of her. Then she realized. "We're at Everglen...."

Percy nodded. "We have to get you inside. I know how to make it so they can't track you."

Elvie looked up at him. "What? You... you can?"

Percy looked embarrassed. "Yeah, you have to get something into your body, it might take awhile... I found out because I had..." he hesitated. "Because I really like you, Elvie."

Elvie felt her blood run cold. Percy liked her? Oh crap, no....!!!

He was coming towards her again and had backed her up to a tree. He leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. She looked up at him, confused, and felt a twinge in her stomach.

"What?" he asked.

"I'm just surprised. I've hated you, how come you like me?" she asked. "And I want to know what I have to put inside me to help have people not track me."

Percy looked at her sadly. "We need to put electricity in you, but we need someone with the electric ability." He looked down at his feet. "And I never cared that you didn't like me. I thought of you as the fierce red-head that is a total boss when she is fighting. She is the hottie that I got to dance with one night, and then I thought I put her where I thought she belonged. But st that time I didn't know. I was jealous of Keefe, and I know you still like him but..." he leaned forward again. "Can you still give me a chance?"

She didn't know what to do, so she nodded. He smiled and put his forehead against hers. "Thanks," He said.

She smiled. Then he backed away. "Can you call for your friends telepathically?"

Elvie stared up to the clouds above them.

SOPHIE!! Sophie!!! Sophie please respond!!

Elvie?! You're alive!!

Yes I am!

Where are you?!

Everglen. With Percy. I turned him.

Percy is there?! Hold on we are sending Alden to bring you.

No don't!

Why not?

The Neverseen can track me. I can't come to... wherever you are...

Ok fine, but I'm sending Keefe.

Ok, what's been going on?

It's full blown war.

Wait what. What's going on? What's happened so far?

We can't find... we can't find Dex...

What? You guys are on the battlefield? You lost him? Dex can't be gone!

He is. We will find him though. I am sending Keefe now. He will update you.😉

Ok talk to you later.

Bye.

Elvie opened her eyes again. Percy was sitting next to her, his head on his knees. Elvie pokes him. "Percy."

"Hmm?" He lifted his head barely.

"Get up Keefe is coming. You'll have to face his wrath,"

"Well did you tell them I kissed you?"

Elvie stared at him a bit. "No..."

"Ok then," he said. He put his head back down.

Suddenly Keefe glittered into view. He shook out his messed up hair and smiled at her. She got up and ran to him. They caught each other in a hug.

"Elvie, you scared me half to death. Never try that ever again!"

Keefe hugged her tighter. "I know and I'm sorry Keefe. If I hadn't then I wouldn't have been able to figure out how to get rid of my tracking system," Elvie pulled away and looked toward Percy, who was standing now. Keefe pulled her even tighter.

"Keefe, you're choking me."

He let go of her a bit, still glaring at Percy.

"Hey man, I'm here to help." Percy said.

"Then why do you feel guilty?" Keefe asked. Percy stiffened.

"I... I am not feeling guilty..."

You are horrible at hiding things. Elvie thought frustratedly.

She hugged Keefe again. "He's on our side."

Percy nodded. Keefe squinted at him. "What are you hiding. You both feel guilty."

Elvies heart dropped. Percy looked at Keefe then back at Elvie. She let go of him.

"Well, Percy may have... kissed me?" Elvie said, standing between the two so that Keefe wouldn't go all angry monster on Percy.

Keefe glared at Percy. "You what?!"

"It was just on the cheek, man," Percy explained. Keefe seemed happy with that answer.

"I'm willing to give him a chance too I guess..." Elvie said, rubbing her arm. Keefe looked over at Elvie, sadly.

"Can I speak to you for a second?"

Elvie nodded and Keefe led her further into the forest. They stopped by a cherry tree.

"Seriously? You like him?!" Keefe said, leaning up against the tree. Elvie came over to him.

"No. I'm giving him a chance is all."

Keefe breathed out deeply. He pulled her in for a hug. "Well that's good. Who do you like?" He smirked.

She laughed. "Obviously Brant." He tweaked her nose. "That's very funny. Cmon who?"

She looked up at him. "Obviously you Keefe," she said. He smiled and pulled her in closer, then leaned down. They were millimeters apart when Keefe said. "Me too." Then he lowered his lips to hers. They kissed for a bit, then he turned it into a French kiss. She pulled apart after awhile. "Is it weird you taste like Mallowmelt?" she grinned, playing with his hair. He grinned back. "Funny, you taste like the soup you gave me the first time I met you."

"Keefe?!"

"Elvie!!"

The two pulled away from each other and ran towards Everglen again. The group was back, Sophie and Fitz running towards them. Sophie ran up to Elvie and hugged her.

"Elvie, you had us all worried!"

Elvie laughed. "Well you weren't the only one," she said, looking up at Keefe. Fitz raised an eyebrow.

"Are you guys together yet?"

Elvie shared a smile with Keefe. "Not yet. We might be getting there. What about you guys?" Elvie said as Sophie let go of her. She looked at Fitz and laughed at his red face.

Sophie took his hand. "Same here."

Elvie nodded unsuredly. "Well I still think my mom had it coming when she told me to be with Fitz," she winked. Fitz blanched and Keefe looked over at her, clearly confused. Sophie looked ready to burst. Elvie smiled.

"I'm kidding."

Sophie sighed and Fitz laughed nervously. Keefe pulled Elvie in for a hug and kissed the top of her head. "If that wasn't a joke, I would have almost punched my best friend," he whispered. She smiled and hugged him. They pulled apart and met Alden, Della, and Biana at the gates of Everglen. Alden looked grim and Della was comforting a sobbing Biana. Elvie raced over to her.

"Are you ok?" She asked Biana. Biana shook her head. "D... Dex is g... gone!!" she yelled, then went back to sobbing. Elvie put her arm around the heartbroken girl and they all went inside.

After they went inside and sat down, Elvie finally broke the silence.

"What happened to the Neverseen?"

Alden smiled. "They retreated. We haven't defeated the Neverseen yet, but one of their top leaders was killed yesterday, so they were a bit of a mess. This war isn't over though."

Elvie smiled. She didn't feel like hearing the details. She just wished to sit in Keefes arms forever. She worked up when she heard the voice of her brother.

"Hey guys! Congratulations. I honestly thought y'all were doomed."

Elvie jumped up from her seat and tackled him in a hug. Dex was next him, laughing his head off. Biana jumped up from her seat and hugged Dex too, earning a smirk from Keefe.

"Elvie, honestly calm your horse down!!" he chuckled, hugging her back. She started crying.

"Elvan... we... we are orphans now..."

she said, pulling away from the hug. He looked at her sadly.

"Better than having that fat bat around," Elvan joked, but she could hear the hurt in his voice.

"Elvan. You are going to become King!!" Elvie cried, suddenly jumping up and down. Her mood swings were getting worse and worse everyday. "We are going to be sixteen!" she hugged him again. Elvan looked completely confused.

"You obviously either have had too much sugar, or you are super tired," he said. Elvie looked over at Keefe.

"Obviously too much sugar," she winked. Keefe smiled. Elvan looked between the two, dawning spreading across the face.

"Oh. Oh!" he said. He was about to say something else but Sophie cut him off.

"Elvie, I almost forgot. We went past your little cottage thingy on our way back. It's burned to a crisp," she said sadly. Elvie stopped hugging her brother. Biana pulled away from Dex to nod in agreement.

"What?" Elvie and Elvan asked at the same time.

"I can have the guards and gnomes build you a new home if you'd like, Elvie," Elvan turned towards Elvie again. She looked at him.

"What about you?" she asked.

He smirked. "I'm king, remember?"

Elvie swatted him on the shoulder. "Whatever."

They all sat down on the couch and talked for awhile. The neverseen were gone. For now.
