Happy Birthday

Universe: Movie

Warnings: Just fluff, the reader is a musician cause this is an incredibly self-indulgent fic wHOOPS

Word Count: 2895

Request: No

Note: What up I'm back, (not really lmao) but hey guess what? IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!! So I wrote this super duper self-indulgent piece of trash.

So yeah, also @samseaa 's birthday was last week exactly so this also dedicated to her (even though music is very much my thing wHOOPS) so yes I love my best friend a lot cause she's accidentally writing a full fic which is basically my fault because I got her obsessed with Detroit: Become Human.

So a few notes, the reader is based on me (hah duh), this is also a terrible one-shot because I haven't written anything in months, reader writes songs, sings and plays guitar cause those are my favourite things and I got a new guitar for my birthday (I got it a week early and I'm in FUCKING LOVE WITH IT) so yeah there's that. Umm, I'll probably add to this later cause it's almost midnight.

Also, this is unedited apart from basic spelling mistakes.

The sun poured through the slit in the curtains hanging over your window, you took a deep breath and pushed yourself up from your bed.

You reached over to your bedside table and grabbed your phone, the screen lit up as you received a few new notifications from Instagram and Snapchat.

You opened up Instagram and sorted through your notifications, a couple of new photos on your feed, two birthday messages in your DMs and a photo that you'd been tagged in.

You tapped the notification to see that Nya had posted 10 photos with you in them, most of them from when you'd gone into to town with her and the boys a month back, you'd stopped at the waterfront and done a makeshift photo shoot.

The pictures Nya pulled together mainly consisted of everyone being stupid or a zoomed in and grainy photo of you pulling an odd face, you laughed at the post before reading the caption.

'Happy birthday bitch! Here's to another year of being general nuisances in public and getting kicked out of the mall because of how "loud and intimidating" we are!!!!'

You giggled to yourself as you thought back to when you'd all been kicked out of the mall, the mall security has explained that your behaviour was "loud and intimidating" and that "It'd be safer for the other mall goers if we vacated the premises", you'd been given permission to go back to mall after a long-winded apology to the staff and security while your mother glared at you in disappointment.

Yikes.

Leaving a funny (and vulgar) thank you on the post you began to get up when your phone went off again, it was another Instagram notification. This time you'd been tagged in a picture from Lloyd.

It was a picture of the two of you on the waterfront, foreheads pushed together and hands entwined however your bodies were completely silhouetted by the orange sunset happening behind you, the caption was a simple happy birthday and some heart emojis.

You felt your heart swell with love for this boy. You commented on the post with a simple thank you with more hearts that should be deemed necessary and got up.

You took a quick shower and then made your way downstairs once you were dressed to see your dad in front of the stove,

"Morning Dad." You smiled, taking

"Hi, sweetheart, happy birthday!" He said looking back at you, he flipped a pancake and added it to the plate. He slid the plate toward you and you took a pancake from the pile and added every topping that had been put on the table.

Your mum came down shortly after, holding your shoulders and kissing your temple before turning the corner and coming back with some wrapped boxes and envelopes,

"Happy birthday, darling!" She exclaimed placing the gifts in front of me, I pushed my finished plate to the side and took one of the envelopes off the top of the pile.

There were four cards, one from your parents, one from your older brother, (B/N), who was studying out of the city, one from your aunt and uncle and one from your grandparents. You were excited to see your relatives the coming Friday for a family dinner celebration, however, your brother was unfortunately unable to make it.

As much as you two fought and teased each other, you and your brother got along really well most of the time and you were really bummed out that he wasn't going to be able to make it your birthday this year but you can't have everything you want and you weren't going to tell anyone that you were sad about your brother not coming down, you didn't want to seem ungrateful.

You then reached up for the smallest gift on the pile, you ripped the wrapping paper off of the box to find a jewellery box, inside was a silver chain with a beautiful (B/S) pendant. You gushed to your parents about how beautiful it was and giving them both a hug.

Your mother took the pendant from you and clasped it around your neck, you smiled as the stone glimmered in the kitchen light, the next gift was a bar of your favourite chocolate and bag of different lollies that you love.

You moved to the largest and heaviest gift next, you ripped the paper off to find a cardboard box, there was no writing or print on it, you sat up on your knees so you could see into the box as you opened it. Inside was a small amplifier made for guitars and microphones, you were excited but also incredibly confused.

You had a guitar but not one with an input for an amp so you assumed that this was for your microphone that you'd gotten that previous Christmas, you again hugged your parents only for your dad to turn the corner and but an oddly shaped box in front of you.

You knew what it was, it was a guitar. The shape of the box was a dead giveaway. You ripped into the box and pulled a gorgeous hardtop guitar, it had steel strings and an electrical input,

"Is this really for me?" You asked in shock, delicately running your fingers over the strings, "This is the prettiest guitar I've ever seen," You whispered, your dad laughed as your mother hugged you from over your shoulder.

"Yup, it's all yours. Put it in its case and get outside, time's slipped away from us." Your mum looked at her watch, you nodded and put the guitar away, zipping up the case and pulling it up with you.

You moved to the front door and lent it against the wall, running upstairs to grab your bag and then back down to wait for your mum, you gave your dad a kiss goodbye and followed your mum out to her car.

Halfway into the drive, your Mum spoke up,

"So what're your plans for after school?" She asked, eyes on the road,

"I don't have anything planned but I have a feeling I'll probably go out after school with my friends, to that little café on the corner, Café Polo," You explained, your Mum nodded, "I'll send you a text before school ends if any plans pop up,"

"Okay, just remember that your dad gets off of work at six so if you miss me and you need a lift home you'll have to stay out till six," She clarified as she pulled up outside of your school, you unhooked your seatbelt and slid out of the car.

You went to the back door and pulled your guitar out before your Mum piped up again,

"If Lloyd wants to come over tonight, he's more than welcome." She smiled, her fingers tapping a rhythm on the back of the passenger seat,

"I'll let him know, Thank Mum,"

"Happy birthday honey!" She exclaimed, you laughed and shut the door firmly.

Readjusting your bag strap on your shoulder, you trekked through the front gate and made your way to your locker. Friends from various classes wishing you a happy birthday as you walked past, you opened your locker leaning your guitar in front of it as you changed out books and fiddled with loose papers that got in the way.

As you closed the door you were jumped to see Lloyd standing behind it, placing a hand over your racing heart you smiled at the blond who smiled back to you,

"Happy birthday (Y/N)," He said cheerily, he engulfed you in a hug and lay a kiss on your forehead, you reached up and gave him a 'Proper Kiss' on his lips.

"So what's this?" He asked, gesturing to your guitar, "It looks very fancy,"

"It's my new guitar, I got it this morning. I'm still in quite a bit of shock actually," You laughed, patting the case.

"You'll have to show me how it plays sometime,"

"Well I have music fourth period, why don't you come down when lunch starts and I'll show you the stuff I've been working on," You say, a sly little smile crossing your lips, Lloyd nodded in agreement.

"(Y/N)!" You turned to see Nya and Kai, as well as Cole, Jay and Zane. You smiled as she hugged you and they all wished you a happy birthday,

"I hope you have a clear schedule this afternoon cause we are taking you out," Nya exclaimed, "How does afternoon tea at Café Polo?"

"That sounds perfect." You beamed.

You checked the time on your phone, eyes widening slightly at how close first period was approaching,

"I have to put my guitar in the music block," You said hurriedly, Nya saying she'd tag along since she was sharing first period with you, you all bid each other goodbye as you and Nya ran off to the music block.

---

The day had happened quickly, you'd spent first period with Nya in Media Studies, second period you had English with Kai and Cole (which in a way was a recipe for disaster), then you had photography third period with Jay and Zane and now here you were in Music.

Music was the only subject you didn't share with any of your friends and you didn't mind all that much, it meant that you could focus on what you were doing. You were closed off from your class in one of the studios writing a song for composition, you tended to go the songwriting route instead of composing an orchestral piece like the rest of your class.

This tended to make you a bit of a black sheep when it came to group performance but what mattered to you is that you're doing what you love.

"Knock knock." You turned around the guitar in your lap. Lloyd stood in the doorway, you ushered him in pulling off the shitty school headphones, "What are you working on?" Lloyd asked, taking a seat in the plastic chair next to you,

"Just a new song," You offered lamely,

"Can I hear it?" He asked you offered him the headphones turning around to start the recording from the start.

"No," He stated, you turned around confused, "I wanna hear you play it," He gestured to your guitar and you scoffed, your face heating up in embarrassment.

You strummed the first few chords and sung the lyrics you had written down, you focused on hitting the note changes and keeping with the tempo you had written down, you always seemed to speed up when you played in front of people.

Your strumming came to a stop, "That's all I have so far," You said, scribbling a couple notes into your notebook,

"It sounds amazing," He gushed, Lloyd always seemed to be proud of your work, no matter what it was,

"You're just saying that cause you're my boyfriend, you have to be biased so you don't make me cry," You joked, Lloyd laughed before turning serious,

"That's not true, you're really talented (Y/N)." He leaned into you and pressed a kiss on your cheek,

"Alright Sunshine, I'll take your word for it." You kissed him on the nose, then leaning down you started to pack your stuff up, "We have Psychology next right?" You asked,

"Yeah, we do. Do you need to grab your books?" Lloyd questioned, he swept up your notebook full of music and handing it to you, you thanked him under your breath as you slid it into your bag,

"Yeah, I will need to grab my books but I wanna get some lunch first. I'm hungry as fuck," You giggled as Lloyd laughed at your statement when you were all packed up Lloyd took your free hand and lead you out of the studio and towards that cafeteria.

---

You were walking to Café Polo with the gang, laughing at funny stories and talking much louder than you all needed to. As you rounded the corner the café came into sight.

You'd sent your Mum a text at the start of Psychology and she said she'd pick you and Lloyd up at the park across the street at half past four, she also made it very clear that the two of you needed to be waiting at the park for her before four thirty. Weird.

The café run was fun, everyone had settled down with a warm drink to combat the cold weather outside and you were all chatting and making jokes, talking about classes and plans for your birthday party that weekend.

You were sat in the booth cuddled up next to Lloyd, head on his shoulder as his fingers lazily played with the ends of your hair although you did perk up quite a bit when the group started singing 'Happy Birthday' With you distracted Zane had gone off to order a little cake, big enough for you all too share but small enough that there wouldn't be any leftovers.

You beamed from ear to ear, there was a little candle on top and the commotion of the ever familiar song had caused other patrons to join in with the song, you blew out the candle making a wish as you closed your eyes.

You all started digging in, using cake forks to eat through the confectionary,

"You guys are the best," You said between mouthfuls of cake,

"We'll always make a fuss of you on your birthday (Y/N), you're never getting rid of us," Cole joked, you laughed hard, and went back to eating.

When you'd all finished you checked your phone it was almost half four, you tugged on Lloyd's jersey showing him the time. He nodded his head and slid out of the booth grabbing his bag and your guitar you followed shortly after taking your guitar from him as you sling your bag over your shoulder,

"We've gotta go, my Mum is picking us up. I love you guys, thank you for doing this." You stood next to Lloyd as waved to the group,

"Anytime (Y/N)," Jay responded, the rest of the group nodding in agreement. You all bid your goodbyes as you and Lloyd left the café and crossing the street over to the park.

You weren't waiting long as a familiar beat-up blue car came into view, you gasped in surprise as the window rolled down,

"You need a lift?" (B/N) called out in a silly accent, you ran down the bank to the car Lloyd following close behind, you put your guitar in the back before throwing the passenger door open and hugging your brother tightly,

"Mum and Dad told me you couldn't make it," You exclaimed in shock, Lloyd climbed into the backseat,

"I told them to keep a secret, I wanted to surprise you." He said, ruffling up your (H/C) hair, "Now strap in, unless you want to sit in the car like a dumbass," You scoffed at your older brothers antics, you looked to Lloyd who had his hands in his lap,

"Hey, Lloyd, how've you been man?" Your brother asked,

"I've been good, and you?" Lloyd questioned back,

"I've been doing really well, I hope you've been treating my baby sister right," He said pointedly, raising an eyebrow in the rearview mirror,

"He's treating me perfectly fine stupid," You interjected,

"Alright hoe," (B/N) stuck his tongue out at you,

"Slut!" You yelled with a laugh,

"Whore!" He joked back,

"Eyes on the road,"

"Alright, alright" (B/N) receded from your stupid sibling joke, you looked back to Lloyd who wasn't too taken aback as he'd seen this happen numerous times before, you laughed with your brother and Lloyd soon joined in.

---

When you'd gotten home, you and Lloyd had stuck around downstairs with your Mum and brother for a solid hour just talking and joking around, when you'd finally found nothing left to talk about you dragged Lloyd up to your room.

Lloyd closed the door behind him and then he tackled you onto your bed, you laughed loudly as tickled you, You flipped him over (although you're sure that Lloyd let you do that) and lent your head against his, you shared a quick kiss every now and then smiling and out of breath,

"I-ah, I have something for you," Lloyd stuttered, you got off of him sitting on your bed and watching him with a curious gaze,

"I was going to give you this on Saturday but I think it's a gift that should be given when it's just us two," He explained as he sifted through his bag, he turned around with a little box in his hand with a ribbon tied around it, "I hope you like it,"

"Aw Lloyd," You took the box from him, he looked away bashfully.

You untied the ribbon and opened the box, inside was a ring. It was in the shape of angel wings, rhinestones covering the expanse of the ring, you covered your mouth in shock,

"Lloyd this is beautiful but you didn't have to buy this for me, it looks a little too expensive-"

"Don't worry about what it might cost, I want you to have it, Angel," You blushed at the nickname, "I saw it and I thought of you," He explained, you put the ring on your finger. It was a perfect fit,

"Thank you, Lloyd, I love you." You pulled the blond forward and kissed him, Lloyd pushed back you both wanted a little more out of the kiss, you smiled as you threaded your fingers into his hair however you two pulled apart when Lloyd tugged away suddenly, you drew back in confusion as Lloyd muttered an "Ow."

You looked to your hand, laughing as you realized your new ring had gotten caught in his hair,

"Sorry," You whispered sheepishly, you engulfed him in a hug resting your head on his shoulder,

"Happy birthday (Y/N)."
