*Rydel’s p.o.v*

Soon after our second pit stop dad stops the bus.

We had finally reached our hotel, by some stroke of luck no fans had figured out our whereabouts yet, so we grabbed our bags of luggage and started making our way to the door.

*Ratliff’s p.o.v*

I had my bag slung over one shoulder, walking behind Rydel, when I saw her pink blanket slip out from under her arm.

I run over and scoop it up, draping it around her shoulders.

“Hey princess, you dropped your royal cape.” I say with smirk.

She smiles at me.

“Why thank you, but I believe it’s mighty hot for a royal cape.” She replies as she tucks it into one of the open pouches on her duffle bag.

I laugh at her fake Texan accent.

It’s not long before we make it to the lady at the front desk.

Mark gets us checked in.

“We need two, double bed rooms please.” He says politely.

“Ok, would you like them next to each other?” the lady at the desk asks.

“If possible.” Mark replies.

“Ok, how about, room 102 and room 103?” she asks.

“Perfect.” He replies.

“Ok, just put your name, your check in time, and when you plan to check out, here are your keys.” She replies, handing him six card keys.

“Thank you.” He replies, taking the keys and handing us each one.

*Rydel’s p.o.v*

“Alright, room assignments.” Dad says.

“Ok, how about, Rydel, Ross, and Riker, you three with me, and then Rocky and Ratliff you can have the other room.” He finishes.

“Daaaad.” I groan.

“What?” he asks.

“I love you, but…I don’t really want to share a room with you, you snore really bad.” I reply.

He laughs.

“Ok, ouch, well, do you want the other room with Ratliff, or would you rather have a room with Riker, Rocky, or Ross?” he asks.

And those were my options, neither of them seemed too appealing to me, sometimes, it was a pain being the only girl in the group.

“You know they do have bathrooms in the room’s right, you don’t have to change in front of us or anything.” Ross says sarcastically.

“You know what just for that, I choose Riker then.” I reply sarcastically.

“Ok, it’s decided then, Ratliff, Ross, Rocky, you’ll be in a room with me, and Riker and Rydel you two can have the other room.”  Dad replies.

As he switches keys with us.

We go to our designated rooms and start to settle in.

“So you didn’t want to share a room with Ratliff?” Riker asks with an amused grin.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I snap. I cover my mouth surprised by my tone.

“Hey, relax, I’m just messin with you…are you ok?” he asks.

“No, I like Ratliff and he likes another girl!” I exclaim all at once, I feel myself blush as I cover my mouth again, what was going on with me? I couldn’t seem to control what I was saying.

Riker raises his eyebrows.

“You said what now?” he asks.

“You know what I said!” I exclaim.

“PLEASE don’t tell him!” I add quickly.

“How long has this been going on?” he asks.

“Well, truth be told, I’ve always kind of had a crush on him, but, I don’t know, maybe the last couple of months?” I reply, unsure myself.

“And have you told him?” he asks.

“Noooo.” I whine.

“And Riker I love you, but before you start giving me any advice you should know that Ross, Mom, and dad already know and have already given me more advice than my head can hold.” I add before he can ask any more questions.

He sighs exasperatedly.

“Just, don’t do something you might regret.” Is all he says.

*the next morning, Rydel’s p.o.v*

The next morning, any plans for a day of promotion are shattered.

Because as I sit up in bed, I have a pounding headache, and an upset stomach.

“Oooh.” I groan.

“Are you ok?” Riker asks from the bathroom, toothbrush hanging out of his mouth.

“No.” I reply.

He quickly rinses his mouth out and puts his toothbrush away.

“What’s wrong?” he asks.

“I-I don’t know, maybe I ate something bad for dinner last night, I just feel sick to my stomach.” I reply.

“Do you think it’ll pass?” he asks.

Suddenly my stomach does a somersault, I cover my mouth and run to the bathroom.

Losing the dinner I’d had last night in the toilet.

“I’ll take that as a no.” Riker replies.

“Hold on, I’ll go get dad.” He says.

He leaves and only a few short seconds later dad comes into the room.

“Not feeling well?” he asks as he comes into the restroom, pulling my hair out of my face.

I just shake my head.

“Riker, call the morning show and reschedule our interview, the number is in the notepad by the bed.” He says over his shoulder.

“Will do.” He replies.

Dad helps me up, and helps me back to bed, tucking me in like I’m a 2 year old.

Then he pushes one of the trashcans in the room next to the bed with his foot.

“Don’t worry about it ok, we’ll get everything taken care of.” He says.

“We were supposed to go sightseeing today, but we’ll stay here with y-“

“No, go ahead, go have some fun.” I interrupt him weakly.

“Are you sure?” he asks.

“I’ll be fine, go on.” I reply.

“Only if you’re sure, and don’t hesitate to call if you need anything, we won’t go far.” He replies.

I sit back in bed, pulling the covers up around my shoulders, already knowing it didn’t matter because the chills I had weren’t from the cold.

“Honestly, I’m just going to roll over and go back to sleep, nothing here for you guys to do, go have some fun.” I reply.

Dad and the others leave, I roll over and go back to sleep.

*Ratliff’s p.o.v*

“Ratliff, are you coming or not?” Ross asks as they head out the hotel room door.

I think for a second.

“Nah, you guys go ahead, I’m gonna stay here in case Rydel needs something.” I reply.

“Ok, suit yourself.” Ross replies as he shuts the door.

*Rydel’s p.o.v*

I wake up after what couldn’t have been a long nap by a sudden sick feeling in my stomach.

Since I knew what was coming, and since I didn’t want to leave a nasty mess for the housekeepers, I decided to run to the bathroom.

Losing more of my dinner in the toilet.

When suddenly I hear a knock on the door.

“No housekeeping please.” I yell weakly, as I throw up into the toilet again.

Suddenly I feel my hair being pulled out of my face.

“Dad I told you, you guys can go, I don’t care.” I say.

“Guess again.” I hear a voice reply, a voice I would know anywhere.

“Ratliff, what are you doing here, I thought you left with the others?” I ask.

“I couldn’t leave you here, no matter how many times you beg me to I’m not gonna leave.” He replies.

“I don’t want to get you sick.” I reply, throwing up again.

“Don’t be silly, it’s just the stomach flu, you can’t give me that.” He replies.

I sigh, catching my breath.

“Ok, I think I’m done, for now anyway.” I reply grudgingly.

He helps me up and helps me back to the bed.

“Do you want anything?” he asks.

“Oh no, even the thought of food makes me feel sick.” I reply.

“What about some water?” he asks.

“That, actually sounds really good.” I reply, pulling some change out of my purse and handing it to him.

“At your service.” He says as he takes the change from me.

“You’re the best.” I reply.

He just grins as he leaves the room.

Before he even makes it back to the room though my tiredness creeps up on me and I find myself falling asleep again.

*Ratliff’s p.o.v*

I went to the vending machine down the hall to get a bottle of water, after the bottle dropped into the chute with a clang I picked it up and headed back to Rydel’s room.

But when I got there she was already asleep, without being able to control it a smile spread across my face.

She was so cute when she was asleep.

Did I just think that?

I ask myself.

Though she’s cute pretty much all the time.

DID I JUST THINK THAT?

I ask myself again.

I set the water bottle down on the nightstand.

Pulling her covers back up over her shoulders.

Then I quietly made my way back to my room.

Almost as soon as I sat down my phone went off.

“Hello?” I ask.

“Why haven’t you called me yet?” I heard the voice ask angrily.

Kelly.

“You left a day ago and I haven’t heard from you at all, Ratliff are you there?” she asks angrily.

“Kelly calm down, I’m here, I’m sorry I didn’t call.” I reply.

“Well, what’s your excuse this time?” she asks.

“Kelly I don’t want to fight.” I reply.

“Well you should’ve thought about that before you decided not to call Me.” she replies.

“I’m sorry, I won’t forget again.” I reply.

“Sure, I’ve heard that before.” She replies.

“Come on baby that’s not fair.” I reply.

“I don’t care if you’re so famous they play your music in outer space, you need to call me!” she squeals.

I roll my eyes and hang up, she’d get over it.

Rydel was never half as dramatic as Kelly.

Stop thinking about Rydel!

I scold myself.

*Rydel’s p.o.v*

I woke up to the sound of someone knocking on my door.

Feeling much better.

“Who is it?” I ask.

Finding that my voice had come back too.

“Food service.” I hear Ratliff reply.

I laugh.

“Come in.” I reply.

He comes in with a tray in his hands.

“Feeling hungry yet?” he asks.

“Actually, yea, what you got?” I ask.

“Well, how does chicken and noodle soup sound?” he asks.

“Sounds good, gimme.” I reply in mock greediness, holding out my hands.

He laughs, handing me the Styrofoam bowl and a plastic spoon.

“Your water is on the nightstand, you didn’t give me a chance to bring it back before you fell asleep.” He replies as he sits on the edge of the bed.

I laugh.

“Sorry.” I reply as I start eating the soup.

Suddenly a phone buzzes.

I start to reach for my phone.

“It’s mine.” Ratliff replies.

He groans.

“Kelly I don’t want to talk to you right now.” He says to himself.

“It’s Kelly, she keeps texting Me.” he says to me.

“What did you do this time?” I ask sarcastically.

“I hung up on her this afternoon.” He replies.

“Oh, so you actually did do something this time.” I reply jokingly.

He laughs halfheartedly.

“it’s just lately every time she calls me it’s like she’s looking for a fight and I just didn’t want to fight with her today, so, I hung up, I know it sounds mean, but I’ll talk to her later, honest.” He replies.

“I don’t think she’s being fair, you shouldn’t always have to be at her constant beck and call.” I reply as he shifts his position and sits next to me on the bed.

“I suppose you’re right.” he replies.

*Ratliff’s p.o.v*

There’s a slight pause.

I awkwardly start to play with the bracelets around her wrist.

“Ratliff?” Rydel asks.

“Yea?” I ask.

“Do you ever wonder if, maybe the reason you and Kelly fight all the time is because, well, maybe you’re just not meant to be?” she asks.

I turn to look at her.

She continues before I have a chance to answer.

“It’s just, you’re such an amazing person, and she just doesn’t treat you the way you deserve to be treated, I know you love her but, I know there’s another girl out there for you whose better for you than her.” She says.

I watch her intently as she talks, really noticing for the first time just how pretty she really is, even sick as she was, from her sparkling brown eyes, her adorable smile, the way her hair fell around her shoulders perfectly, she didn’t even have to try.

“Are you ok?” she asks, slightly cocking her head.

“Uh, yea, I’m fine.” I reply.

“Thanks for staying with me today, you’re the best.” She replies.

I smile, relieved that she didn’t seem to notice I’d been staring at her.

“Anytime.” I reply.
