"Make an impact"

Chapter 1

New York City, 2000

Monday night Raw

A week after Brianna's debut

Brianna stood up and took a deep breath to realize what she was about to do.

She fixed her light brown hair and put her hands down at her sides, clenching her fists as she made her way from her locker room to the backstage area.

She was anxious and nervous but the anger inside her, had turned in to strength.

It was going to be her next appearance after her debut match on the previous week's Raw and she was already involved in a feud since that.

She stepped at the courtain leading to the arena but when she was about to come out to the stage, the memories of herself being at the same spot before for the very first time, came to mind, and the sound of Vince McMahon's voice made an echo inside her head, telling her, the night she met him, that she had to make an impact if she wanted to stay relevant in the business for a long time.

Flashback

Brianna's debut match night

"One, two, three!" The crowd shouted and the bell rang announcing Brianna's winning against Lita.

In that exact moment, she started to see everything in slow motion.

She won her first match, however, she was so tired that she couldn't even feel her face or hear anything but the crowd screaming.

The referee raised her hand and she made an effort to smile.

While she was leaving the ring, all the members of the McMahon-Helmsley faction appeared and started to attack Lita for no apparent reason.

Or that's what she believed in that moment.

That was the first time she met the one person who would be her worst nightmare, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley.

"She doesn't even know how to punch someone." Brianna thought to herself when she saw Stephanie slapping Lita while X-pac and Road Dogg, were holding the helpless girl by the arms.

"What a coward." Said herself again.

Triple H was attacking the hardy boyz, who were always outside the ring supporting Lita when she had a match.

Brianna was about to head backstage when she figured out what they were trying to do, and she wasn't surprised at all.
She had been studying everyone on the roster before her debut, just to be prepared for any attack or something coming in her way.

The faction were attempting to cause Lita to be at a disadvantage due to injury and make the match for the women's title on the next show, easier for Stephanie; but thanks to Brianna, they couldn't.

She had one of those sudden impulses she always used to have, and turned around glaring at them.

Brianna ran back to the ring and started to punch X-Pac and Road Dogg and Stephanie ran from the ring only to stay frozen in the ramp when she saw how Lita stood up to help Brianna to take out both men.

Suddenly, Triple H was back in the ring, and Stephanie smiled in satisfaction.

He was about to take them both, Brianna and Lita, when everything around, turned red and a creepy melody invaded the arena.

"Oh, shit!" She screamed after the huge explosion that made her back to reality.
She knew who he was but it was the first time for her to meet him in person.
The seven foot tall man came out and walked down the ramp towards the ring.

He raised his arms and there was another explosion at the same time he lowered his arms to his sides.

Brianna just stood still.

"Damn, this is cooler than I thought it would be!" She said to herself. She tried to hide the admiration and the fear she currently felt since she knew that the huge man wasn't precisely mentally stable at that moment.

Everyone ran out of the stage. There was a long silence before the man started to walk slowly towards her but Brianna still didn't moved.

She looked him in the eyes trying to figure out what he wanted from her, although she knew he wasn't much of a talker.

The commentators were yelling at her to run just like everyone else did but she was curious about him. There was no reason for him to attack her but still, she was risking being beaten just because he was who he was.

At the uncertainty of not knowing what to do, she ignored her survival instincts and she just opened her mouth...

"Hey..." She said like she was talking to someone who couldn't teare her apart in a matter of seconds, and she regreted instantly. He tilted his head threateningly. "What up K-dog?" She muttered and made a millitary salute.

He became paralyzed when he heard those words but she couldn't understand why. "I never saw him while I was training at the gym. Or maybe he saw me, but, why did I catch his attention anyways?" She kept on wondering until he finally spoke.

"Leave!" He growled at her and she frowned.

She decided to leave at a normal pace trying to show him that she hadn't any reason to run away from him. Besides, she was still curious about him and wondering why he was looking at her the way he was.

That night, she felt like there were two different people looking at her, she knew before that he had one different eye. But standing in front of him, she had the chance to look closer at his good eye and saw nothing but pain. The other one, was the eye of a monster. Just like she heard he wanted to be called.

He was a superstar, she just knew a few things about his life because of the show, but he definitely didn't know anything about her.

Or that's what she thought.

Later that night

"I know you can hear me, Brianna. Come out here or we will come for you!"  Vince McMahon said upset in the middle of the ring. What she had done minutes before, wasn't a good thing for a rookie to do.

The whole faction angrily waited for the new girl to give an explanation about her actions when she finally came out.

"There you are, you little b...!" Stephanie McMahon said before being interrupted by his father.

"Wait a minute, Steph. Let me talk to her." He said pausing before continuing to speak and then he proceeded.

"Who the hell do you think you are to disrespect this family?!Vince yelled and people booed him.

This was Brianna's moment of truth. She felt the anger running through her veins. It didn't matter if she was fired at this point, they were trying to take her honor and tear it into pieces just like they were used to doing to everyone else who crossed their paths, and once more, she just let the words come out of her mouth, guided by rage.

"You see, Mr. McMahon. With all due respect, I had to help Lita, because she was all alone against two men and one woman.

I remember you told me the night we met that I should make an impact on my debut match to stand out in this business, and I think I had a FAIR match against Lita, and I won, FAIRLY. If you know what that word means." The crowd was cheering at the top of their lungs at this point.

Everyone that was in the ring couldn't hide their astonished looks. When the crowd stopped cheering she continued.

"So if that wasn't making an impact for you, maybe I should impact your daughter's face to prove that I'm not here to be a joke for you and your gang." The pop that she got after saying that was indescribable.

Stephanie exploded and Triple H was holding her while the others were also insulting Brianna.

To the surprise of the crowd and the members of his crew, Vince's face started to shine like a new coin and he had a smile on his face. They looked at him confused because he didn't seem to be acting normal.

On the other hand, Brianna was waiting to be fired and she wasn't sorry because she was being transparent to her detractors.

Stephanie couldn't handle it anymore and she took the microphone.

"Say something, dad!" She screamed with that annoying voice of hers.

The oldest member of the McMahon family, finally decided to speak his mind.

"You seemed to be very enthusiastic when you arrived here, Brianna. But that wasn't the reason why I hired you of course.

I remember you were watching a match when I came to the office, and we broke the ice talking about that match.

It was The undertaker vs Chris Benoit. So you watched my son, Shane, interfering in the match to help Benoit and you didn't mind speaking your mind about it. You said: "That's cheating."

You called my son a cheater right in front of my face.

But I let you continue, so I could figure you out some more.

Then, Undertaker's brother, Kane, showed up in the ring and scared the hell out everyone, just as he did a few minutes ago.

You didn't complain about it, in your opinion it was the right thing to do. Just a brother helping his flesh and blood.

Then finally, Undertaker is surprisely attacked by his little brother, Kane, from behind. And you frowned, but you didn't say anything bad about him.

I asked you why my son was a cheater and why Undertaker's  younger brother wasn't.
Do you remember what you told me?" At that point everyone was astonished, expecting Brianna to answer.

"I said: it's clear he has important reasons to do what he's doing. Shane just wants power. Even more, power than you have." The crowd cheered for her again.
Shane looked at his father and couldn't help but to yell at him.

"And you hired her after she said that?!"  Vince turned around and looked at his son.

"See, son. I love you, but sometimes I can see that, even an old lady, can have more guts than you have, and this girl definately has guts."  The faction was starting to look at Vince like he was mad. Triple H spoke next.

"What's wrong with you, father in law?!  Have you been spending time with that crazy son of a bitch of Al Snow lately?!" He said expecting an answer.

"Let me get to the point and finish this conversation once for all Hunter." Vince said and turned back to continue speaking to Brianna.

"You are clever, Brianna. And most important, you really have made an impact on me tonight.
But, as you know, my patience doesn't last long, and I want you to choose to be in the right side.
You can use your cleverness to make that decision.
If you are in, you will have protection and the faction will not touch you.
If you keep trying to play the hero, and trust me, we've had many of those around here, you will sorry because we have taken out every single one of them.
Even some members had been kicked out of this crew because they weren't worthy. Tori, for example, she wasn't as clever as you.
But we need a girl to be the eyes of the company, because you know, my daughter is busy being the women's champion.
I can't offer you that title but I think I'm being FAIR with you after your disrespectful attitude." Brianna had mixed feelings and she wanted to answer what her heart was telling her.

"I will not..." She tried to say but Vince stopped her. He knew that she needed some more pressure.

"Wait...don't answer me yet. I'm feeling so generous that I'm going to let you think about it. But just one more thing.
If you choose poorly, you will have the opportunity to make a great impact... on The big red machine, Kane, live on "Unforgiven"! Since you are a fearless girl,  I don't think that's a problem for you!." Vince said sarcastically and Brianna glared at him, shaking her head in helplessness.

All members of the faction left the ring frowning. They weren't happy with Vince's decision but they knew that he had a point.

End of the flashback

A week after Brianna's debut match

The sound of the crowd going crazy about what was happening in the ring, made her wake up again so she finally decided to go out and do what she had to do.

Certainly, she knew that walking down that ramp will define her future on the roster, and she had to be truth to herself. She wasn't there to be the bootlicker of the roster however, she didn't want her career to be over either.

Brianna tried to get some self-confidence back by remembering those words: "Make an impact."

"What does that mean anyway? Do I have to be someone else to succeed in my career as almost everyone does? I don't think so." She thought to herself before making her way to the stage.

King: "Hey, look who's coming, J. R.!"

J.R: "It's Brianna! She's coming to help Stephanie! She had made her decision, She has joined the faction!"

King: "We have a new girl on the faction, J.R.! But...Wait. What is she doing?!"

Brianna got into the ring, stared at Lita for a moment and she stopped beating Stephanie when she noticed Brianna's presence in the ring.

Two more seconds of staring at each other and they knew what they had to do.

J.R: "Oh no, they are beating up Stephanie! She's not helping her! And The Rock is not even looking at them, he's beating Triple H!"

King: "I like this woman already, J.R.! She's got the guts!"

J.R: "Oh, you didn't say that, king! She's messing with the women's champion and the whole faction, and so do you!"

Brianna got out of the ring and crossed the ramp to the backstage while the crowd was cheering.

"The rock", who was the special referee for the women's championship match, came back to the ring after letting Triple H knocked out.

Stephanie was down so Lita decided to went for the pin fall.

"One, two, three!" And the match was over.

"Your winner, and the new WWF women's champion, Lita!" Lilian García said on the microphone.

People were amazed. It took too long for someone to stop Stephanie and The Faction from beating another people on the roster and cheating to win.

The faction was a powerful group at the time and they were taking all the titles for themselves. They had even taken the women's championship for Stephanie but then the new girl had ruined her plans to keep it.

King: "She has lost it, J.R! They gonna make her life a living hell! Starting from that match with Kane, on "Unforgiven"!

J.R: "There's no doubt she's in trouble now! If she wanted to cause any impact, it definitely wasn't a good one for the boss!"

King: "Oh, I'm sure she has caused an impact on Stephanie's face now!"

J.R. just laughed about it.

Later

Hotel room

Brianna left her bags on the large bed and went directly to the bathroom. While she was in the shower she couldn't help but have thousands of awful thoughts about her future. She wrapped her body in a towel and she looked at herself in the mirror.

"You're going to be brave now." She remembered the words her father Jack used to tell her when she got herself in trouble.

But Brianna was lying to that mirror. She was more than worried because she knew she would never be able to beat a seven foot tall wrestler even if she would train for a whole month with no rest.

She didn't want to cheat to win, just like every member of The Faction were used to. She didn't have any friends there to support her anyway. She even heard everyone on the backstage muttering that she was crazy for messing with the faction.

She was the new one, and she was all alone.
She had tears running down her cheeks.

"Suckers, they could never do it." She gave herself some courage while putting on a shirt.

Suddenly, she heard a knock on the door and she jumped.
She was already paranoid.

"Maybe they came to fire my ass out for good before the match." She thought as she walked slowly to the door and got petrified when she finally opened it.

"You must come with me." Kane said in a grave voice as his deep gaze broke through Brianna's eyes like a thousand knives.
