➳chapter twelve➳

Jack's point of view

I had noticed how affectionate Finn had always been.

Sure, now he kissed me and called me sweet names, but he hugged me the same way he had since we were five, and he joked and played with my hair like he always had. It was the small things that made me slowly realize I was full on falling.

The eerie silence of my room on a Tuesday at twelve in the afternoon unsettled me. It might have been peaceful if I hadn't been thinking of Finn too much, and about how it had been a week since we did...that.

My phone lit up across the room, and I groaned as I rolled off my bed instead of getting up like a normal person to get it.

Mother Jaeden™: who wants to go hang out today

Daddy Wyatt™: when and where jae jae

Sophlilllis™: idc I'm going anyway

ChampionChosen™: yeah me too

Jer Bear™: me toooo

Finnlard 💕💓😫😩💦: I already have plans

Sophlilllis: with Jack?

Me: No, I'm gonna go with you guys

Mother Jaeden ™ : suspicious. Okay let's meet at the park in like fifteen minutes

I wondered where Finn was going, but I didn't sweat it too much.

Nobody showed up to the park until thirty minutes after we agreed, including me.

Sophia ran up to me and picked me up in a crushing hug, spinning me around so much that when she put me down I almost threw up.

"I'm so happy you and Finn finally got together! I've been waiting for like two years!"

Was everyone waiting for us to get together? Did I make it that obvious that I liked him?

You need to be more subtle, Jack.

I laughed nervously, patting Sophia on the back. "Well, I'm glad your dream came true."

Wyatt pushed Sophia out of the way, sticking his tongue out when she scoffed. "Jaeden and I, as your mom and daddy, approve of this relationship, as long as he touches nothing more than your hand."

My face turned pink. My sides started to ache where his fingertips left faint bruises and the marks below the neck of my shirt started to itch. I let out another nervous giggle.

"Cause if he does then I'll beat him up," Chosen added. "I just made myself your big brother."

"Hahahahaha, I, um, yeah we would, uh, never...do that?"

Jaeden's eyes widened. He hopped off the swing he was on and walked to me. I gave him a look that said 'try me.'

He pulled the top of my shirt down. The faded, yet there, hickeys that he left there were obvious against my pale neck.

Jeremy jumped up and down with Chosen, screaming and scaring the three toddlers nearby. What happened to Chosen beating Finn up?

Well, shit. They found you out, Jack.

"He did that?" Wyatt asked, frantically searching my neck for any more. "It's been a week! When did he find the time to do that?"

"Uuuuuhh..." I tried to think of a response, but was cut off by Jaeden.

"You know what, it doesn't matter, as long as nothing more happened."

My now back to normal face flared up in a flash of red again, and Sophia gasped this time. "Holy fuck! Tell us everything that happened!"

Are you even trying to hide it, Jack?

"That's it y'all sit down, we're gonna have some family time," Chosen demanded, plopping himself down on the grass. "Jack better explain himself."

Jeremy clapped his hands as he sat down. "This is my otp."

I sat there silently. What do they want me to say? 'I almost fucked my boyfriend before he was my boyfriend, but don't worry we only dry humped.'

"Tell us what else you guys did," Sophia whined impatiently.

"We fucked."

Wait no.

I didn't mean to say that.

Jaeden choked on the sip of water he was taking, Wyatt's eyes bulged halfway out of his head, and Sophia, Chosen, and Jeremy yelped.

"No! No! We didn't fuck! That just came out oh my god no we did not fuck."

Jaeden laid his head in his hands and Wyatt took deep breaths to calm himself. Sophia looked disappointed, Jeremy looked relieved, and Chosen looked like he wanted to die.

"What the fuck did you guys do then?" Jaeden's voice was muffled and giggly behind his hands.

"Please don't make me say it," I whined, hating how invested they were in my relationship.

"Come oooooon," Wyatt persuaded, shaking me back and forth by shoulders.

"Fine! This is peer pressure. We..." my voice became a whisper almost inaudible. "Dry humped."

"What was that?" Chosen teased, cupping his ear and getting closer to me even though I know they all heard me.

"We dry humped! Okay? Stop talking about it!"

Whoops.

Wyatt shook his head. "I hope when you guys do actually fuck he doesn't hurt you. I hope he doesn't hurt you regardless. Just, ugh, don't let him hurt you."

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.

You're not my actual dad, Wyatt.

"Yeah, if he does we'll beat him up!" Jaeden proclaimed proudly, beaming like he just told us he got a puppy or something.

"Guys please."

I was actually getting kind of annoyed with them. Like, I can beat Finn's ass myself if he ever hurt me. I'm not a baby.

Sophia pulled me into another, softer, hug. "It's a joke, not a dick. Stop taking it so hard."

I laughed loudly, pushing her backward into the soft grass. She pulled me down with her.

"Let's just go get something to eat and forget this ever happened," Jeremy pulled me up.

"Wait, he better not have left any marks on any other part of your body," Wyatt warned in his Dad Voice™.

"About that..."

Finn's point of view

Millsters: yo yo wanna hang today with me and my friends??

Me: yeah sure I don't have any plans

Millsters: you can invite your man if u want

Me: nah, I should meet them first

I got dressed, my hands shaking.

I was hella nervous.

It's not like I wanted to impress them or whatever, it was just that I was afraid that they would be mean or bitchy and I'd end up fighting one of them.

Or worst of all, one of them would end up hitting on me.

I know I sound full of myself, but hey, it happens a lot. But I'm, what the kids like to call it, cuffed. So no love for anyone else but Jack.

We met at the park.

I sincerely hoped that my friends decided to go to the park across town.

"Finn!" Millie waved her hand high up in the air to get my attention. A group consisting of three boys and one girl sat alongside her at a picnic table.

She stood up and gave me a hug, smiling brightly as always. "This is Gaten, Noah, and Caleb," she pointed to the boys, all of them reflecting her grin and waving.

She grabbed the hand of the girl next to her. She had bright ginger hair and smart blue eyes, she was pretty.

"This is my girlfriend, Sadie!"

I put out my hand to shake hers but she went straight past it and pulled me into a hug.

Okay then.

"It's nice to meet you, Finn," Noah spoke up once Millie and Sadie sat down, pulling me down in between them.

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you guys too. How long have you all known each other?"

Caleb grinned, and I noticed he was holding Gaten's hand. Is everyone gay in this town?

"Ah, we've all know each other for too long. You'll probably feel like that once you get to know us."

Gaten nodded, and I could see a slight smirk grow on his face. "Yeah, we have that effect on people. You'll know all of us, like, personally by the end of the day."

I shifted in my seat, not knowing what to say next.

"How about we play one of those question games to introduce Finn," Millie suggested. We all nodded in response.

Gaten started first. "So, Finn, do you have a lot of friends?"

I nodded my head vigorously. "Yeah! I have a few close ones. Jaeden, Wyatt, Sophia, Chosen, Jeremy."

Millie nudged me hard with her elbow. "I think you're forgetting someone."

I furrowed my eyebrows and racked my brain for who I could be missing.

I'm pretty stupid.

"Oh! Yeah! My boyfriend, Jack. I think they're all hanging out right about now, probably somewhere else in the park."

I noticed Noah's face drop when I said boyfriend, but I ignored it cause I didn't need to feel guilty for having a significant other. Not today.

The questions continued for about an hour. They eventually strayed off the task at hand and started asking each other questions. Noah ended up being asked if he'd ever banged anyone, which left him all stuttery as he let out an embarrassed "no," even though everyone was just messing with him, and his friends would obviously know the answer. It was kind of cute.

No, Finn, shut up.

I had a stomach ache from laughing by the time Millie suggested we should get something to eat. We got up and walked to the diner a few blocks down, making old ladies scowl at the sight of a bunch of chaotic teens roaming the streets.

I saw Noah sigh as he had to apologize to the elders.

I hung back, walking beside him as the others were practically years ahead of us. "You were kinda quiet back there. You always like that?"

He nodded his head, smiling up at me. He was short, probably Jack's height. "Yeah, I am, but I'm used to all the noise these assholes make. I'm usually the Mom Friend."

I laughed at that, thinking about how Jaeden would never be such a calm mom friend. "I have a Mom friend. And a dad friend. They're too wild."

"Your friends seem cool. We should all meet one day, I'm sure we'd all get along. And you're cool too, I'm glad you were the one to make Millie realize she was gay."

Is...that a compliment? "Uh, thanks, I guess?"

He laughed, kicking a rock along the sidewalk. "I'm just joking. I had a bet with Caleb and Gaten on whether Sadie or Millie would come out first. I won cause I had faith in my girl Mills."

He smiled widely when I laughed a little. I hadn't really seen him do that before. "Here, give me your number. I'll give it to everyone else later."

I grabbed his phone. Our hands brushed. His ears turned a pale pink, but I felt perfectly fine.

But I was pretty sure I could hear the faint sound of a few pairs of footsteps behind us.
