           PINK FLOYD is Saffron's favourite band, but Led Zeppelin is cool too. Michael was supposed to go with her to see them live last February. Yeah, he wholeheartedly bailed on that one. He always bails these days, at least if it's involving anything in the realm of fun. What's the point of having a best friend if he's constantly occupied by a snotty sidekick named — spare Saffron a moment to hurl — Jackie.

            Fuck, it's like that big haired bombshell ruined everything precious and good in Saffron's self-centred universe. Stealing three dollar sunglasses from the corner store on Suncrest Boulevard and bumming warm beers off of her uncle is getting kinda old now that she has no one to accompany her. Saffron has no requirement for lighters anymore, mind you, the vividness of her rage lights her cigarettes for her.

            Okay, so there might be other contenders to hang around with in Point Place, it's not like there's an absence of people in question . . . the only absence is in Saffron. She's been pretending to be okay for months now, though the looking glass gives it away. The girl in the mirror cracks. All that's left is an isolated teen with a penchant for guitars and grape bubblegum.

           Save Saffron the pity, would you? The gem cannot be polished without friction . . . right??? But god, why, does that friction have to be a boy with unruly curls and a big mouth? Maybe Hyde wasn't what she had in mind when she first thought up the idea, although she's got to occupy herself with somebody, and he's always around, doing nothing.

           Michael Kelso is Saffron's best friend — and not that she'd ever admit it — but Steven Hyde is cool too.
