Chapter 5~ The Six ~(Part 2 of 'The Symbols')

Narrator's P.O.V:

It was finally morning time. All the kids have finally started to wake up, except them...

"Umm William...Alex...It's time to wake up" said one of the new care workers. "Five more minutes, please?" William mumbled, drowsily. "Oh! But the breakfast is ready! We have made both of your favourite foods!" The worker tries to convince both boys.

The boys sigh and 'hopp' out of their beds. They were not a morning type of people.

Once they got themselves ready, they immediately head off toward the dining hall.

Meanwhile in the dining hall...some kids seem to have already finished their breakfast.

"Did we wake up that late?" Alex asked as he side-eyed William. "Umm...I guess so?" William replied, Side-eyeing back at Alex.

"Are you two even going to eat or just stare at each other?" Asked one of the kids who just finished their food. "Oh...uhh...yes!" The two fellows replied in unison.

They immediately sat on two empty chairs and started munching on the food provided for them.

~A few minutes later~

" That was so delicious!" William exclaimed. "You've FINALLY said something correct after a very long time!" Alex laughed.

"So...Shall we get back to what we were doing last evening?" Alex asked, now fully turning towards William. "Oh right...I completely forgot about that...." William replied. "Can you check if the symbols are still there inside your drawer or not? Somebody might have taken it away by noticing its shine!" "You're right! Let's go!" Alex exclaimed.

The two lads quickly made their way back to the children's room. Once they reached it, they quickly checked the drawer to see that the symbols are still there, in the same position.

"Phew! Glad they are still here!" The boys sighed in relief.

"Do you think there could be more of these types of symbols?" William asked. Alex replied "maybe...".

As the two fellows started to wander around the manor (with the weird symbols inside Alex's pocket), William came up with a question. "Do you think that there could be more of these weird symbol things present within this manor?" "Maybe...I don't know" replied. "Then...let's go and investigate for more symbols!" William exclaimed, throwing his left hand in the air.

The boys searched every single room they could find but were unsuccessful in the hope of finding even a single clue about the symbol; a few moments later Alex realised that they still haven't checked the topmost floor yet!

They immediately made a quick run, almost bumping into a care worker.

As soon as they reached, the lads immediately started to investigate again. They searched both bathrooms but nothing was found. As they entered the last bedroom...they noticed a very weird-looking symbol placed above one of the drawers. That was exactly what they were looking for!

"YES!! WE GOT IT!! I KNEW THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER ONE OF THESE!!" William cheered.

"It's great that we got another one...but what now? What are we supposed to do with these?" Alex questioned. "Oh right...I did not even think of that...." William realised. "Maybe, we could go to the library to see what we can do with these". "Hmm...okay", Alex replied.

William quickly hid the symbol inside one of his pockets.

The boys started to walk towards the library rapidly.

As soon as they reached the library, the little lads started to search for something that could be related to the symbols but soon got interrupted by one of the care workers.

"What are you two doing here? Do you not want to have your lunch?"

The little fellows stared at each other blankly.

"Did we take that long to find ' that thing '?" William questioned. Alex replied, "I guess so-?"

"Well...." The care worker began. "Are you two just going to talk among yourselves or are you both going to eat your food? It is getting cold!" "We'll be right there!" The boys exclaimed in unison. "You better be!" Replied the Care worker, walking off and leaving the boys alone. "Well...let's go, shall we?" Alex asked, heading towards the exit (of the library). William hummed in response.

~After lunch~

"You know...I still can't believe how we've taken THAT long just to find this thing!" William said, pretty surprised. "Exac-", Alex started but got cut off by one of the annoying kids, approaching them, curiously. "What thing?" "Oh! Uhh...It's nothing at all!" William stuttered. Alex added, "Yeaass...there is nothing you need to know for now!" "Why do I feel like you two are hiding something from me?" Said the kid, suspiciously.

William whispered into Alex's ears, "I want to kick him so bad...he is getting on my nerves." Alex sighed. "Okay...can you please just leave us alone?" The kid replied, "Not until you tell me what you two are hiding from everyone!" "Why are you even so interested in whatever we are doing!?" William snapped. 'Okay...I don't think this is going to end well...so I better stop them-.' Alex thought to himself. "Don't you sass me like that-!" Alex interrupts in the between, pulling William by his hand. "William, Let's go." "But-! I'm not done with him, yet!" William argued. "It is better not to risk our 'those things' to that boy," Alex whispered. "Okay... " William agreed. The other boy was just standing, confused but sure of one thing. 'I know you two are up to something...it won't take me too long to find out, just see! '

As soon as the boys got away from the annoying kid."Phew! That was so close!" Alex sighed in relief. "But now he won't leave us alone anytime sooner! He knows we're up to something! " William murmured. "I know...but the best thing for us to do NOW is to try to avoid him as much as possible but also keep a keen eye on him so that he doesn't spoil anything. " Alex explained. "Well...I guess that makes sense. " William replied.

"So you want to perhaps go to the backyard?" Alex suggested. William agreed immediately, "Oh...I would love to...we have been walking around the whole manor without even a minute of a break! "

The boys decided to grab some of their favourite books from the library.

Just as they were about to enter the backyard (after taking permission from a care worker of course), the exact worker stops them. "Do you kids not know that taking books to the backyard is not allowed? " "What? I and William always took our books to the backyard and once we are done put them back in their places!" Alex argued. "Well... child, the rules have changed. Now, put those books back in their places, " the worker replied.

The boys had no choice but to get back to the library. "I hate this place so much, there are so many strict rules! Like you can't even visit the backyard without letting any matrons know! It is not like as if we will be able to escape from this place anyway!" William ranted. Alex snorted with laughter, "Oh William... they don't want us to get hurt when we go out, remember what is happening in the outside world? But don't think that I am trying to defend them. " William wasn't really in the mood. Alex sighed, "Hey, it's ok! It is pretty dark outside, anyway. I think it is going to rain soon. So...we can just spend time here! "

The two boys spent the whole afternoon and evening blabbering and patrolling the manor until Alex stumbled across a 'certain page', so he decides to call William. "William! Look at this!" "What is it? Did you get another symbol? " William mocked. "No dummy! I found a page!" Alex exclaimed. William said in annoyance but immediately shut his mouth after taking a glimpse of the page. "What is so special about that page? It probably fell out of some book- oh.... "

The page had the SAME (which the boys collected earlier) symbols printed. "Wh-where did you get this from? " William questioned in curiosity. "It was laying on a chair on the top floor, " Alex replied. "Oh... Well, that clears my doubt. What is written on it though? " William asked again. Alex answered, "It says:

THE SIX.

These six symbols are a modern  mystery known as 'The Six. They were first discovered on ancient hieroglyphics. worn by a Pharoah as medallions on a necklace. The Six have since been seen on many illustrations throughout history with the latest discovery in 1876. Their existence, use, and relevance to royalty and power remains unknown. "

"So these symbols are not just some simple symbols that shine, " Alex spoke in amazement.

~After dinner time~

The boys quickly sneaked into another bedroom and took out all the symbols, placing them on the bed, "I'm curious about who has kept these symbols hidden so well that nobody could find it from then...till now. " stated William. "Yes, it cannot be just some other kid or matron placing them here!" Added Alex.

Beverly's P.O.V:

"Now... where are those two little brats...? " I huffed. I cannot catch even a minute break from these two...can I? (no I don't think so :)) There was no sign of them either in the Children's Room or the library (they were supposed to be asleep by now).

Back to the boys' P.O.V:

(The narrator's speaking)

A few hours later. "Do you think we could find more pages like these?" William asked. Soon the boys heard some loud footsteps; they hurriedly hid the symbols and the page inside their pockets.

Beverly's P.O.V:

As I was walking down the long hallway (2nd floor), I heard a familiar muttering coming from another bedroom. "Do you think we could find more pages like these?" As I was about to open the door the muttering was coming from, I heard someone grab something. When I completely opened the door...I saw Alex and William standing there with blank faces. "I've already warned you two, didn't I? Come with me, now! " I said, completely fed up with them.

"Ms. Beverly we-"
