Breakfast Shenanigans

"Eliiiizzzaaaa," Alexander says as he lies on his side in bed, facing his wife. His orange hair is all ruffled and frizzy as he sits there, tangling Eliza's dark brown hair around his fingers. "You gotta get up, babe."

She groans in response. "Nuh uh...let me sleep," she says with a slightly annoyed and sleepy tone. "It's the weekend and I don't have to work."

Alex stops playing with her hair and drops his hand onto her stomach, rubbing her belly. "Which is why we should spend the day together."

Eliza finally flips onto her side, quirking an eyebrow as she now faces Alexander. "We could spend the day together sleeping. Sounds perfect to me."

Her husband chuckles as he scoots closer to her, providing her more warmth, which she relishes in by leaning her head into his chest and cuddling closer. "We did that last weekend though. There's so many other things to do during the winter instead of sleeping, Liz."

Eliza shakes her head sleepily as he leans against her husband, and he kisses the top of her head. Suddenly, he scoots away and off the bed, and Eliza immediately gets upset with the loss of warmth radiating from Alexander's body.

"Hey!" she protests, pouting, as she sits up. "You were my heater!"

Alex smirks. "You can sleep. I'm not lazing around all day," he says pointedly.

"But I wanna spend today with you..." she whines, giving him a look.

"Then I think you know what has to give." And with that, he walks swiftly out of the room with a small chuckle, knowing his wife has no choice but to get up.

Eliza groans irritably and pushes the covers off of her, her feet touching the cold wood floor. She shudders and stands to her feet, stretching her arms before crossing them, still feeling cold. She trudges over to the bathroom and pulls out her toothbrush and toothpaste, brushing her teeth with her right hand while raking her left through her brown hair, smoothing it out.

Eliza steps out of the bathroom, back into their bedroom, and out into the hallway with her arms crossed. She makes her way down the stairs and into the kitchen, where her husband is cooking up breakfast. She walks up behind him and wraps her arms around his middle, leaning against him and snuggling her head against his back.

"Clingy much?" he comments, grinning with a knowing look.

"Shut up. Just let me hug you," she responds, her voice muffled from her head being pressed into her husband's back. Alexander laughs, turning around and guiding her arms to wrap around his front. He moves his arms around her waist and embraces her in a cozy hug, the body heat warming Eliza up almost instantly, and she lets out a sigh of content.

The two of them just stand there for a moment, holding one another in each other's arms, not wanting anything else than to just be in the moment, before Alex remembers that he's cooking food. He pulls back a little from the hug and gives Eliza a small kiss on the forehead.

"As much as I would love holding you for hours and hours on end, I have food behind me that will burn if I don't get back to cooking," he says quietly to her.

Eliza's shoulders drop, knowing he's right, and she pulls away from the hug entirely. "Right." She steps away from him and sits up onto the counter, gazing down at her husband. "Then I'll stay here."

Alexander smirks and takes her hand, kissing the back of it, before he effortlessly gets back to work. Eliza watches him as he cooks with grace, then watches him as he pulls out his phone and scrolls on it momentarily before music by Ed Sheehan begins to play from the device, more specifically, their wedding song, Thinking Out Loud.

Eliza grins and starts humming the song as it plays, then singing quietly, "And darling I will be loving you till we're seventy..."

Alex smiles to himself as he hears Eliza singing the lyrics, him joining her. "And baby, my heart could still fall as hard at twenty-three," he harmonizes as he peels the pancakes off of the pan and onto a container, stacking the pancakes and closing the lid over the container to keep them warm. He turns the oven off and turns to Eliza, stepping over to her gingerly and lifting her off of the counter, causing her to squeal a little.

He sets his wife down in front of him and links his fingers with hers, slowly dancing with her in the kitchen, Ed Sheeran's voice singing softly in the back. Eliza giggles as Alex twirls her around twice before letting her fall back to him. She moves her hands from his and instead wraps them around the back of his neck, Alex's hands involuntarily moving down to wrap around her waist. He stares down lovingly into her eyes.

"So honey, now," she sings. " Take me into your loving arms."

"Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars," Alex joins in. Eliza smiles and gives him a little kiss on the lips.

"Place your head on my beating heart..." Eliza leans her forehead against his as the song continues, her having stopped singing now.

Alexander leans up and kisses her forehead, letting his lips linger there for a moment as he mumbles, "You're so beautiful."

Eliza huffs a laugh. "Yeah, I wish."

Alex pulls back to look in her eyes. "Oh, but you are. You are the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes on."

Eliza rolls her eyes, but blushes. "Well, if we're playing this game, you're the most handsome husband one could ever have."

"Good," Alex says with a cheeky smile, and Eliza can't help but laugh at his response.

"Not even a thank you?" she says teasingly.

Alexander shrugs his shoulders, smirking. "I don't think I have to thank you for saying something I know is true."

Eliza shoves him playfully and laughs once more, shaking her head, before wrapping her arms around him again. Alex pulls her closer to his chest with his arms around her waist, and Eliza moves her head to rest it up against his collarbone. She breathes in that ever so familiar smell of her husband, not wanting anything more than to just stay in his arms. She can briefly make out the sounds of their wedding song playing in the background, but she's more content listening to the sounds of her husband's breathing.

After a few more minutes of just staying in one another's embrace, Eliza gently extracts herself from Alexander's arms, eyeing the pancakes behind him. "We wouldn't want these to get cold now, would we?" she says as she looks up at him and into his dashing violet eyes that took her breath away so long ago when she'd first met him.

Alex grabs his phone and turns the music off, then sliding the device into his pocket once again and facing Eliza with a little smile. "We wouldn't." He lifts the container filled with pancakes off of the counter and walks over to the dining table with his wife, looking forward to spending the rest of this morning and the rest of the day with her.
