George's Star

George’s Star

Her smile was a warm one. She always comforted me and made me happy again when I was crying. She’d sit me in her lap and read me a story as I’m cuddling my teddy. After a year, it’s still hard to believe that she’s gone.

I look out the bathroom window at the night sky as I’m brushing my teeth. The dark used to frighten me but it doesn’t anymore. Mum told me that Grandma is amongst the stars watching over me. I know that she is up next to the moon protecting me. I know she is the star on the right because it is the brightest of them all.

I think the moon is strange because it changes shape every now and then. It can trick some people into thinking it is smiling down at you. Dad always arrives home late at night and told me that the moon is a permanent light to guide you at night.

I think that the moon’s light gives off a beautiful and comforting glow. It is a faithful companion to the glittering stars. The moon is mysterious because few people have been on it; but at the same time it makes me feel safe.

“George, do you want to pick out a bedtime story?” Mum says as she knocks on the bathroom door. “Goodnight, Grandma,” I whisper as I glance at the brightest star in the sky and leave the bathroom to choose a book for Mum to read to me.

The End.
