Chapter 7

There Pitch stood, with a troubled look on his face. Elsa looked at him in shock. “Ummm… Hi? Do you want to come in?” Pitch shook his head and sighed. “Oh no, it’s alright. I’m just here to ask you a favor. You know with your ice powers and all.” Elsa’s shock did not change. Pitch? Asking her for a favor? “Sure, what is it?” Pitch smiled as he leaned in next to her ear so he could whisper. “I want you to kill Jack Frost.”

Elsa took a step back. “What? You want me to kill someone?” Pitch sighed. “Elsa, it’s for your own good. Jack has learned how to alter memories of people. He may come and try to change you, to take your powers.” Elsa couldn’t believe it. “But doesn’t he have his own powers?” Pitch shook his head, as if pitying her. “He wants more Elsa, enough to come and destroy me. And you of course.” Elsa nodded, and turned away. “Alright, alright. I’ll see what I can do.” Pitch’s face lit up as he gave her a quick hug and turned to leave. When he was sure he was far enough, he laughed a great laugh full of lies.

While Jack was heading back to Elsa’s palace, he tried to think of what to say to her. “Hey Elsa! How’s it going?” No no, that was all wrong. Jack groaned with frustration. Suddenly, he saw Pitch pass by, laughing as if he had already won something. Only after he passed did he realize that Pitch had come from Elsa’s palace. Oh no, he thought, and willed the wind to hurry. He was there within a heartbeat. And possibly a heartbeat too late.

Elsa stood in front of the necklace that Jack had given her. You can do this Elsa, you can do this. He’s just another person who wants your powers to himself. Get yourself together. She told herself. And when she heard the expected knock, she let the necklace fall out of her hand and left. There the necklace lay, facing up, with the word Elsa peering at the floor.
