5.2 - Reunions & Conferences

I flew to Milton Keynes on Friday, had a couple of meetings there at the headquarters with the teams, especially with the PR team and I introduced myself. I set a new plan for working, it wasn't that different from the one that they already had in place with their last managers and signed a few final paperwork they needed like my contract.

I drove to London to have lunch with Liza and visit their house while I was here, annoying Lando to the maximum of my ability in the short time that I had. After I was there for a few hours, I was forced by my mother, who was apparently told by my father who was told by Theo that I was going to be in England, to dinner. I drove an hour to Cambridge where I would spend the night unfortunately at my parents house until tomorrow when I flew back to Monaco.

Our dinner went like they always do, we sat in silence until my mom started asking intrusive questions and then I got mad and we started fighting and my father was on his phone trying to avoid hearing us argue until I eventually gave up with her and we didn't talk the rest of the night. This dinner's argument was the job offer and how she doesn't agree that I'm going to leave Theo for a couple of months and how I have better things to do like plan the wedding. I was marrying exactly the type of guy that my parent's wanted me to marry and they still had an issue with my life choices and my attitude.

I went to bed annoyed which was a reoccurrence every time I am in this house. I woke up early the next morning and I left my England car at my parents and had their driver take me to the airport where I took the jet back to Monaco. Things were not the best the rest of the week between Theo and I before I left for the race on Wednesday morning. I quit the job at the magazine, I left most things organized until I came back in three weeks. I took a jet with Max and Liza and other people helping Max and we arrived in Austin in the afternoon.

We checked into the hotel and we divided into our different rooms. It was weird that the last time I was here so many things went down but now I was the only one without a couple present so I was in a hotel room alone.

Eventually we all came down and we had dinner at a restaurant downtown and we enjoyed the city before we all had to work tomorrow. It was around 12 when I called Theo, it was 7AM in Monaco and he answered in a rush.

"Hi babe, I was just leaving. I have an early meeting" He scrambled on the phone.

"Oh, that's okay. I just wanted to check in, make sure you are good" I said.

"Mhm yes. I hope you have a great day tomorrow. We'll speak later I really have to go" He said before hanging up.

I sighed and went to bed. Tomorrow was going to be a weird day. I have been to a few races over the years to watch Lando and Max but I always kept to myself. I even left before podium celebrations to try and avoid any run ins or even any social media articles and photographs of my presence. Now, I worked there again. I had to be there all day, every day of the weekend and I was probably going to have some awkward run ins.

The next morning, aside from everything I was excited. I had enjoyed the year I worked covering races and Formula 1 was a sport that I had grown very fond off which is ironic since every time I had to watch it, it same along with my ex's face. I took a shower and dried my hair, the thing about working now for a team was that I had a uniform to wear at the track. I buttoned up the shirt that had RedBull and other sponsors logos plastered all over it and some black dress pants. I paired the outfit with some black heels, grabbed my ID pass, my purse and everything I needed before heading down. I was probably going to have something to eat at the energy station.

"Max, your ass needs to be downstairs in 1 minute" I said over the phone.

"You know, maybe getting you a job where you can technically boss me around was not a good idea" He said.

"Well, too late now buddy. The car is coming so get here before I leave without you" I hung up the phone and Max appeared with Val, almost dragging her down the lobby.

"I wasn't even done getting ready" Val protested. I rolled my eyes and laughed before we all got into the car. The driver took us to the track and we scanned our passes and entered the paddock.

"So, you have the pit walk at 10. You will meet your team there and they will go with you. After that you have three short interviews, one for RedBull with Checo so please be on time so that gets done fast. I will probably come to that I have a few meetings, then you have the press conference. I will definitely be there for that so I'll come looking for you. Victoria is waiting for you in the station so please go look for her and check in" I explained quickly as we walked.

"Yes boss" Max joked. I pushed him gently.

"I love you idiots I have to rush, I'll find both of you later" I separated from them and walked down the paddock until I found the motorhome and I entered the meeting room.

People who needed to be there began piling in and taking a seat until the director began the meeting. It dragged on for what felt like forever, very little regarding what I do but I was still required to come to the meeting. I went downstairs to the cafeteria and took a yogurt and sat down to eat it. I checked my phone and few emails I had to get to before heading back upstairs. I pulled my laptop from my purse and connected it to the monitors. I waited until everyone came in and I spent around an hour and a half giving a meeting to the rest of the PR team about the requirements for this weekend.

I looked at the time when I finished the meeting and I was just in time to make to the shooting. I gathered my things and rushed down into the paddock. I went down to the garage and I asked for Max. He wasn't there and no one had seen him in a while. I walked back to the location for the shooting and I asked if anyone had heard where Max was. The director said that they had only head Checo was coming down in a few minutes but not him. I rolled my eyes and walked back, this was definitely a work out especially in heels.

As I'm walked down the paddock I called Victoria, Max's PR officer.

"Hi Victoria, are you with Max?" I said once she picked up.

"No, I was just with them a few minutes ago but they stayed having a coffee with Valerie but they aren't there. I'm looking for them right now" She explained. Great, I have a missing driver.

"Checo is heading down right now to the shooting area, I need to go find Max. If you find him first, call me and I'll meet you there" I said before hanging up.

I'm going to murder you, Max.

I turned around sharply on my way to look for him when I bumped into someone.

"I'm sor-" I looked up and a pair of green eyes and a red hat looked at me. I felt like the air had been knocked out of my lungs and my mind went blank.

"Liv?" He asked. I hadn't heard his voice in such a long time and I don't think I could've ever prepared myself to hear it again.

I came back to reality. "Charles, hi" That is all that came out.

"What are you doing here? Wait, are you wearing a Red Bull uniform?" He looked down.

"Yeah" I paused, I think he fried my brain because no coherent thought was coming through. "I'm the new PR manager for RedBull, at least for the next few races"

His face went into an expression I couldn't figure out. "Oh, so you'll be around until the end of the season?"

"Yeah" I said awkwardly.

Charles' name was called out, making my head turn in that direction before a short blonde girl in a tight dress appeared by his side. She looked familiar but I couldn't really put it together.

"Liv, this is Caroline" He said. "My girlfriend"

Now everything fell into place, I unfortunately had come across a few pictures of them together when they first started dating in my feed.

"Hi, nice to meet you" Caroline said, shaking my hand.

"Of course, yes. Pleasure" I blurred out. Unconsciously, my fingers began playing with my engagement ring as a habit when I was stressed or nervous. This drew Charles' attention to my hand and therefore the diamond placed on my ring finger. I watched his face as he observed it before I quickly hid my hand away and he looked back up. I knew he wanted to say something but decided not to.

"Sorry, if you don't mind I have an unpunctual driver I have to kill and an interview to oversee. It was nice to see you again Charles, pleasure to meet you Caroline" I smiled before absolutely bolting out of there.

I rushed down the paddock and actually spotted Val and Max walking. I narrowed my eyes at Max and he quickly turned around trying to avoid me.

"Max Emilian! I am going to drag into that interview! I just had to meet Charles' girlfriend because you weren't on time!" I said.

"What?" Both Max and Val said at the same time, Max spinning around again.

"Yeah, it was awful. Definitely going to need a few shots of tequila to erase that from my memory but for now" I said, grabbing his arm. "You are coming with me"

I dragged him across the paddock until we get to the filming area. Checo is already sitting down and talking to his trainer.

"Sorry, he's here now" I apologize and throw Max next to Checo. They begin filming the challenge which was a trivia and once they finished and everything looked good they dispersed and I stayed behind talking to the Social Media Producer and we talked about draft deadlines.

Finally I pulled away from the set and had to rush back into the press conference. I entered the room and most photographers and reporters were taking a seat before the drivers began coming in.

Max and Checo were the firsts to take a sit, followed by Lando and Daniel and finally Charles. I internally groaned when I saw him come in and I took stood behind some people.

The conference began and they asked the same questions they usually do which made my job easier in a way because it was easy to fabricate a template of acceptable answers for the drivers to not say anything that can then make my job a living hell and need control damage. After they were done they came down from the table and I talked to Checo for a moment about tomorrow before talking to Max.

"Yeah, just make sure that you don't sound too cocky about this year's championship. You know that people already think you have anger issues buddy we don't need to add cocky to that list" I bluntly said. Max and I were honest with each other in almost everything. He rolled his eyes and flipped me off.

Before he could say a snarky comment in return, I felt a big hug from behind that took me off guard.

"Liv? What are you doing here? I haven't seen you in so long!" Daniel said once I turned around, this caught the attention of Charles who was standing to the side talking to his press officer.

"Daniel! I work with Red Bull at the moment" I laughed hugging him back.

"Oh no, you've betrayed us! You've chosen a side and it's the enemy!" He joked.

"Someone's got to keep this idiot from doing stupid shit" I laughed and pointed at Max.

"That's true. He's done a lot of stupid shit while you are not around" Daniel confessed.

"And yet we are both still friends with him" I said.

"Shut the fuck up, you both love me" Max said.

"Well, it's good to see you. I'll keep an eye for you at the paddock" Daniel said and we hug one last time before he leaves behind Lando and their PR manager. My vision drifted to the side and I saw Charles staring at me intently.

I shook my head slightly, looking down. "C'mon Maxwell let's get out of here" I joked and we stepped out of the room leaving Charles behind.

This was going to be one hell of a roller coaster.
