ROBIN SPENT THE next day preparing for the picnic date she had planned for Nancy and herself, making sure she had everything, including the bouquet of flowers she'd picked from the nearby meadow and a picnic blanket for them to recline on. She wanted this date to be perfect, nothing short of the word, because Nancy didn't deserve anything less.

She had made sure to call Nancy from her home phone during early morning, telling her to come to the park in the afternoon and that she had a surprise for her. Robin had a hunch that Nancy was the impatient type and didn't enjoy surprises, but she didn't want to spoil what she had planned. It was a big day, after all— their first date. It had to be a date they were going to remember forever.

Robin was currently laying out the picnic blanket over the fresh-cut grass in the park, smoothing it out before setting down, the picnic basket remaining shut until Nancy arrived. When Robin spotted the familiar blue car roll into the lot, she beamed and rushed over to greet the curly-haired girl.

"Hi!" Robin couldn't hide her excitement. Her blue eyes were sparkling and a grin held her face, the sight enough to make Nancy swoon.

"Hey," Nancy smiled, standing on her toes to kiss Robin's cheek. When she pulled away, she peered over Robin's shoulder and found the picnic waiting for them. Her eyes met Robin's as a question tumbled from her lips. "Robin...did you do this?"

Robin rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly, turning to the side to peer at the picnic as well. "Ha, yeah. I-I thought it'd be nice if we could have a picnic date, y'know? I wanted it to be really special because it's what you deserve and— "

Nancy abruptly cut her off with a kiss, halting the words in Robin's throat. The taller girl froze until Nancy pulled away and hummed. "You taste like strawberries."

Robin's cheeks flushed crimson. "I-I might've eaten one or two before you got here."

Nancy giggled, taking Robin's hand and guiding her over to the picnic. As they sat down, Nancy basked in the warm breeze and the sound of birds chirping happily from the trees. Nobody else acquired the park; it was just the two of them. It felt peaceful.

"You've outdone yourself here, Robin Buckley," Nancy teased, reaching for a mini sandwich in the picnic basket and unwrapping it from its plastic. "It's so beautiful out here."

"I tried to make it perfect," Robin replied, fidgeting with her fingers. She didn't know why she was so nervous. Maybe it was because it was her first date with a girl, or maybe it was the fact that she was on her first date with Nancy Wheeler, the prettiest girl she'd ever set her eyes on. Never in her life would she have believed she'd be able to snag a date with someone like her, yet here she was, watching Nancy as if the girl had put the stars in the sky.

"It is perfect," Nancy said sincerely, setting down her sandwich and taking ahold of one of Robin's hands. "Seriously. Though anything would've been perfect with you."

Robin smiled at the compliment. "Who knew Nancy Wheeler was such a sap."

"I only show my sappiness to those who earn it," Nancy said matter-of-factly, biting into a strawberry and chewing it thoughtfully.

"Oh, and I'm one of those people?"

"I don't know, are you? I mean, I wouldn't feed just anybody strawberries."

Robin looked at her in confusion. "But you haven't fed me any strawberries."

Nancy's eyes glimmered. "Open your mouth."

Robin complied, opening her mouth, unaware of what to expect. Nancy set a strawberry between Robin's teeth and the taller girl bit down, the tanginess exploding in her mouth. Nancy watched her with an unfamiliar emotion sparkling in her blue eyes, a smile playing on her lips.

Robin couldn't deny this was the most intimate thing she'd ever done with another person. The action was innocent— she had simply eaten a strawberry, but Nancy's gaze looked almost hungry, like a predator hunting its prey. It caused butterflies to spark in Robin's stomach.

"Can I do something?" Nancy suddenly asked, pulling Robin out of her daze.

Robin nodded. "Sure."

In seconds Nancy was seated on Robin's lap, her legs thrown on either side of the girl as her fingers intertwined on the back of her neck. Robin froze in place, her heart beating wildly. She didn't know what to do. Nancy was on her lap, probably expecting a kiss or something, but Robin was unmoving.

Nancy giggled, the sound floating to Robin's ears. "You've really never done this before, have you?"

Robin wasn't exactly sure what she was asking, but still she shook her head. "N-No, but I'm a visual learner."

Nancy cracked a smile at that. She rested her hands on Robin's cheeks and dipped her head down to attach their lips. Robin responded instantly, as if it were a second nature to her, her shaky hands settling on Nancy's hips.

She never wanted this moment to end.

Soon their kiss became passionate, tongues colliding until Nancy was tired of Robin's mouth and trailed her lips down to her jaw and neck. Robin was nervous yet excited. She'd never had anyone kiss her like this before, but God was the feeling great.

"N-Nancy, you don't have to— "

Nancy shushed her, pulling her head back to look her in the eyes. "Answer me honestly. Do you want this?"

Robin nodded.

"So do I. If you want me to stop, I will, just say the word. But I promise, I wouldn't do anything I don't want to."

Robin nodded again, her cheeks hot. Nancy gave her one last reassuring smile before kissing her lips again, and Robin melted into the bliss.

She was with Nancy Wheeler, something she never thought she would say. It was shocking but exciting and perfect all at the same time. Robin felt happy— truly happy, the happiest she'd ever felt.

And as Nancy kissed her with passion and truth, their lips bruising and dark, Robin knew for a fact that she wouldn't want to be anywhere other than right by her side.

End.
