Calming Down

~Carlos' POV~

For 30 minutes we stayed like that. After the first 15 minutes, my sobs finally stopped and I was just silently crying. I felt embarrassed but I was too focused on calming down for me to care at the time. At least Ben was nice about it, he didn't push me away in disgust or stand there annoyed, waiting for me to stop. He actually comforted me.

"Carlos I'm so sorry, I really am. I didn't know you were that afraid of dogs," Ben said as he looked at me with sadness in his eyes. "I really just thought your mom hated them, I wanted you to meet one cause I thought you'd like him." I could see regret written all on his face and I put my hand on his shoulder.

"You don't need to feel bad, you couldn't have known," I reassured him he slightly smiled. "Maybe one day I'll warm up to Dude, but I just can't do it right now." He nodded in understanding.

We started walking out of the woods, I needed to get my things from the field and take a shower and get myself together again. I haven't had a break down like that in a long time.

"Hey, Carlos, you don't need to apologize for being the son of a villain," Ben said, breaking the comfortable silence we had, but I didn't know what he was talking about.

"What are you talking about?" I ask, confusion evident in my voice.

"Back there, when you tried to climb the tree to get away from Dude, you were pleading me not to let him get you. Then you said you were sorry... sorry for being the son of a villain." I thought about it then remembered what I said in the middle of all my panic, and I looked down at the ground.

"It's just, I thought you knew I had a fear of dogs, and I guess it went through my head that you brought us here for a different reason," I say, trying to explain what was going through my head at the time to him.

"A different reason?" He asked confused and I nodded my head. We both stopped when we got to my bag and I picked it up and we continued walking.

"I don't know when I was trying to figure out a way to get away from the dog, I put it in my head that you brought us here to punish us or torture us... and you were starting with me." I looked down again, feeling bad for trying to make him the bad guy. "I thought the only way I could live was to try and plead to your good side."

"Carlos, I would never do anything to intentionally hurt you." He said then he cleared his throat quickly and coughed. "Any of you! I would never do anything to intentionally hurt any of you." He corrected himself. "If I would've known that you were going to react the way you did with Dude, I would never have even considered bringing him out to meet you."

"Thanks, Ben," I say kindly, at least he wouldn't intentionally hurt me.

"But are you though?" He asked with curiosity lingering in the sentence.

"Am I what?" I asked him confused.

"Sorry that you're the son of a villain? I know you said it out of fear, but did you mean it?" He asked and I went to answer but nothing came out. The truth is, I didn't know. If you would've asked me a week I would have said of course not. But now that I've been here, with all these really friendly people and their parents being so amazing and nice, I couldn't tell you.

"I don't know. Before I came here I wasn't." I told him truthfully and he nodded his head showing he understood. After that, we finally arrived at my room.

"Thanks for walking me to my room, Ben," I said to him while turning to him and giving him a small smile.

"It's the least I can do, I still feel awful, please tell me there's something I can do to make it up to you?" He almost pleads. Even though I know there's nothing he could do, I could see in his eyes that if he doesn't do anything he would feel awful for the rest of his life.

"Okay fine, you can help me in my Remedial Goodness class. I really am struggling in there cause I don't actually get what it is I'm supposed to 'know'." His face lit up and he nodded violently.

"Yes! Of course, I can do that!" He said excitedly and I laughed.

"Okay, how about tomorrow? After practice?" I asked and he nodded with a huge smile. "I'll see you then!" I said, kinda blushing and I walked into my room. Jay was in the library watching Finding Dory so it was just me. I guess it's kind of for the best, I wouldn't want him to see me like this anyway.

I opened my drawers and grabbed some clothes and went to take a shower. I sighed when the warm water hit my skin, it had been a long day and I just needed time to relax for a bit. After I was in the shower for about 10 minutes, I turned the water off and looked at myself in the mirror. All the freckles on my face, my curly white/brown hair, just everything. My eyes were still red and puffy from earlier. I got dressed and walked out of the bathroom and seen a person sitting on my bed and I screamed.

"Evie!! Don't do that!" I say, holding my chest after I realize it's just Evie and she laughs.

"Sorry, I didn't think you'd mind me waiting out here while you showered." She said getting up from my bed and walking towards my desk.

"What are you doing here anyways? I thought you'd be running to find a prince." I say sarcastically and she mocks a fake laugh towards me.

"Well, Mal is out trying to figure out how to steal the wand so I came to see what you and Jay were up to. Where is he anyway?" She finishes.

"He's at the screening in the Library, I was going to just hang out here, so if you wanted to chill then you're good," I respond and she shakes her head in disapproval.

"Unacceptable! We won't be in Auradon much longer and you want to just stay in here and lounge around?! I won't stand for it! Come on!" She grabs my hand and pulls me up from my bed I had laid down in and I groan. "We're going to go get something to eat, then we'll hang around the park." She said and I look back at my bed longingly.

~~At the at the food court/court yard (Basically they're eating outside)~~

After we ordered our food we decided to talk some more, It felt good to just talk without someone bringing up the plan to get the wand. We started talking about how our lives were really good here and that lead to us talking about Auradon itself.

"I'm actually liking it here! This place is just like a fairy tale and I love it!" Evie said to me with excitement.

"Yeah me too, the people here are..." I look over at Ben, he's across the street with a couple of guys from the Tourney team. He looks over at me and sends me a cute smile and a wave and I blush. "Special." I finish.

"Omg! Omg! Omg!" She yelled in my ear and I snapped my head towards her.

"What??" I yell, kinda expecting some aliens to be in the sky or something.

"You totally have a crush, don't you?? No one describes people 'special' unless they've fallen for someone!!" Evie yelled excitedly and I quickly started denying it.

"What?? Evie, no! I am so not crushing!" I defended and this only added fuel to the fire.

"Omg, you do!!" She screamed loudly with excitement and I blushed. I looked over towards Ben and he was looking over at us with a comedic smile.

"Shhhhushhhh!" I shushed her and she smiles widely.

"So who's the lucky girl??" She asks interested in who my crush is. I slyly look over at Ben again and he's talking to Chad, but he keeps stealing glances at me.

"Uhm, she doesn't exist," I say truthfully and she groans falling back on her chair.

"I'll get it out of you some day Mister!" She said with a giggle and I laughed slightly. After a couple minutes, our food comes and we eat while talking about random things just enjoying our time together.

We finish our food and pay at the register and we go outside and notice that it got dark really quickly. We look at each other and laugh at how long we were there just talking.

"So I'm guessing the park is a no go now?" I ask in a joking tone and she just laughs and we start making our way back to our rooms.

"Guys!" We hear someone yell from behind us and we turn around to see Jay.

"Haven't you been getting our text? Mal told us to meet in the kitchen!" He said and started to run towards the kitchen and we follow him there.

"Finally! Okay, so I have a plan!" Mal said as Evie and I walk in.

"Okay, what is it?" Evie asks and Mal smiles. I kinda zone out but I'm still listening to them.

"So I was talking to Ben and I found out that during his coronation, Fairy God Mother's wand will be out so she can make him king!" She stated. "But the only way any of us can get close enough to grab it, we have to be in a relationship with the prince, then he'll have us be right next to him." She finished and everyone nodded their head in understanding.

"So what are we going to do?" Evie asked and Mal looked at her and gave her an evil smirk.

"Well, little Ms. Queen! I found a potion in my spell book for love cookies! Who ever eats it immediately falls in love with the person who gave it to them! So I'm going to make these cookies and have him fall in love with me, that way I'll be able to grab the wand!" She finishes and we all nod again, but this time in agreement.

5 minutes go by and they're almost finished with the recipe when Mal looks up and groans, I don't pay any mind, I'm just sitting off in the back, still not paying attention to any of them. For some reason, I'm not having any courage to go through with this plan.

"We need a tear that is manifested from actual sadness!" Mal groaned to us and I was still having second thoughts about this whole plan thing. I mean we had it good here, did we really want to prove to all these snobby preppy kids that we're actually just like our parents.

"Guys, let's think about this for a second! Do we really want to do this?" I said, trying to get everyone to rethink going through with the plan, and Jay just looked at me. Probably because he knows why I'm asking this.

"Carlos this is our one shot-"

"To prove ourselves to our parents! I know!" I said interrupting her, evidently annoyed. "I'm just so tired of having to worry about what our parents want! Specifically yours!" I said, pointing to Mal and her facial expression changed from shock to anger.

"You need to leave my mother out of this!" She said as if I'm testing her. "What's gotten into you?"

"I'm tired of your mom trying to control every aspect of our lives! I mean, we have it good here! Why do we need to ruin that?! All because your has-been of a mom wants to make a comeback?!" I yell at Mal and her eyes turn green.

"Watch it, Carlos!" She yelled back at me. "Carlos! Carlos!"

"CARLOS!" I heard someone yelling my name and I opened my eyes quickly to see Mal with a worried expression on her face. "Are you okay? You kinda passed out in the chair there."

"Oh, sorry yeah, I'm good," I responded and she smiled and returned to the cookie mix.

"Anyway, Lonnie came in and she started crying a bit so we got the last ingredient for the cookie, we'll finish up here, you need to go and get some rest," Evie said and I just nodded, I was really tired, from all the adventures of today, I needed a good nights rest.

"Okay, I'll see you guys tomorrow," I say before getting up and walking out of the kitchen.
