1970's - 4

Everyone screamed in surprise as the entire club went dark. It seemed like there was a power outage, and there was nothing to do to fix it.

Everyone started panicking and screaming, rushing towards the front and back entrances to get out of the now hot as hell club.

Jessica felt someone grab her hand and tug her along towards the front exit. She followed along until they reached the door that lead outside. They may not have had electricity, but the moonlight still helped illuminate the night sky. And when she finally found out who was helping her the entire time, she screamed.

"Shut up!" Rico said harshly, tugging her against him.

"Let me go!" She tried to fight against him.

"Jess!" She heard a voice call out to her. "Jessica!"

"Nate!" She called out, frantically searching for him in the darkness, only to be snatched back.

"Jessica!" A feminine voice now yelled out. "Andy?!"

"Kim!" Andy called out in all of the confusion.

Jessica tried to pry his hands off her. "Kim!" She yelled out. "Kimberly!"

Everyone was pushing and shoving, but Rico kept an ironlike grip on her arm. No doubt there's gonna be a bruise tomorrow when she wakes up.

If she wakes up.

Nate frantically looked around in the dark, but nothing stood out to him. "Jessica!" He said, hoping she'd call back out, but she didn't. Not this time, not like before. He assumed that Rico had grabbed her and made a run for the exit, so that's where he headed. Unfortunately it seemed like everyone else had the same idea as well. Nate tried to push past the horde of people that were trying to get out of the door as well, and suddenly he was yanked back by other people that wanted to get through as well.

This was useless, there had to be some kind of back exit. Nate helped his hands out while trying to dodge people. Goddamnit! It was so fucking dark!

He felt a wall, and decided to move alongside it, trying to find any semblance of a door or door handle. While everyone was still panicking and shoving each other around, Nate figures he was far away from that mess now, considering it was getting quieter now. He kept feeling around for a door, until he collided with someone else.

A female voice yelped in shock and fear as he heard a thump. She must've fell over. "Sorry!" He quickly apologized. "Where are you?" He quietly whispers, trying to help her up. Finally he felt her arms wrap around his arms as he helps her up.

"Nate? Is that you?"

"Kim?" He asked, feeling her grip tighten around him. They both hugged each other in the dark. "Oh my god, where's Andy?" He asked.

"I️ don't know!" She exclaims. "One minute we're dancing, the next the lights go off and everyone's running and shoving each other," she tells him. "Where's Jess?"

Nate lets out a frustrated groan. "Rico grabbed her when the lights went off. I️ think they're outside," he tells her.

Kim whines. "How are we gonna get home?" She sounded like she was on the verge of crying.

Nate ran a distracted hand through his long hair and sighed. "We got this, alright?" He reaches out and holds her. "Just...help me find the door, alright?" He asks. He takes her hand and together, they started to look for door. Three minutes later they hit one, only to find out it was just the guys and girls bathroom. They continue moving, and another couple of minutes they hit another door that was locked. "It feels...like an exit to me," He says. "Alright stand back a little," he warns her. He then stands back and measures up his leg from the lock. He then grunts and kicks his foot against the door with all of his strength and the lock gives in, opening the back, revealing an alleyway.

"You did it!" Kimberly squeals in excitement. They then take each other's hand and head outside, slowly walking down the alleyway. A million car alarms and sirens were going off, and people were still screaming. Wether it was from fear or excitement, he wasn't sure. They made their way down the alleyway until they finally reached the street, where everyone else way. If was still dark but a couple of the locals had illuminated their flashlights, lanterns and candles, but it still didn't make it any less dark.

"Where are they-" She started to say but was suddenly tackled by a large figure, making her scream.

"Kim!" Nate shouted in horror, ready to fight.
"Get off her man!" He reaches out to shove the guy away.

"It's me! It's me y'all!" Andy says, making them both relax. Kimberly returned his hug before he turned his attention to Nate. "I've been looking for you guys everywhere!" He breathed out. "It's fucking chaos out here!"

Nate lets out a sigh of relief. "Jesus Andy, I️ almost pummeled you. You can't surprise us like this," he scolded. "Has anyone seen Jas-"

Just then a loud shriek emitted from behind them, making them turn around. "Was that her?" Andy asked Kimberly.

"How am I️ supposed to know?" She scoffs.

"You're related to her-"

"Nate! Kim!" They hear now, a desperate cry for help. Before they knew it, Nate takes off running down the street, leaving them behind.

"Nathan!" Andy yells after him, but it was too late. He was already gone.

Jessica went limp in his arms, just to make his life more difficult. "Rico please!" She cried.

Instead of answering, he simply throws her over his shoulder, making her shriek. "Help! Nate! Kim!" She screamed as she pounded against his back. "This is kidnapping pendejo!" She hurls insults at him. "You can't do this!"

"I'm the king of this barrio, and I-"

Before he could finish, a powerful punch landed across his jaw, making him and Jess both slammed into a brick wall. Jessica screamed when she banged her shoulder against the wall as they both fell over. Nate grabbed Rico by the collar and stood him up only to punch him in the face again. And again. And again. Then he changed it up and kicked him in the ribs while he was down. When he has satisfied, he held out his hands for her to take, which she gladly did.

Rico lets out a loud laugh, making them stop to look at him. He spit out blood on the ground and wiped his nose with the back of his hand. "What?" Nathan yelled, annoyed.

"Estas muerte," he simply says before hysterically laughing again. Jessica gasped in fright. Just then, cars crashed behind them, and someone just lit a whole pile of trash on fire. People were running up and down the street, looting, pillaging and even fighting. The streets were rapidly turning into a war zone.

"What did you just say?" Nate took a step forward. Jessica urgently tugged on his sleeves, pulling him back.

"We gotta go!" She said with a sense of urgency. "Nate this isn't the time-"

"What did he say Jess?" He asked, looking at her.

"I'll tell you later!" She pulled at his hands. He dropped the subject, for now, and they both took off, trying to find somewhere safe. They eventually reached an apartment complex in a quieter neighborhood and help each other climb up the fire escape. Once they reach the top, they look out into the city and saw that it was dark, with the excepts of fires being starts, candles being lit and police floodlights. Nate wrapped his arm around her and pulled her in for a hug. "Are you okay?" He asked. "Did he touch you, or-"

"Other than my sore shoulder, I'm fine," she muffled against his chest. She then looked up at him. "But you should've never did that Nate!" She scolded, pushing him away. "Idiota! You do realize you just beat up a dangerous drug dealer?!"

Nate was at a loss for words. "I️ did it to help you!" He exclaims.

"And now we're both gonna die!" She yells. "I️ had it handled!"

"Letting him treat you like some sort of prize was having it handled?" He scoffed.

"At least he didn't want to murder you!"

Nate waved her off. "He probably would've killed me either way," he mutters, making her sock him in the arm. "Ow!"

"This isn't funny Nate!" She yells. "I've seen what he's done to people! He'll kill a person's entire family cause they pissed him off. He'll torture you and mess with your mind until you go nuts, okay?"

"Why are you so angry?!" He questioned.

"Cause I️ like you but you're running 'round my hood like you're freaking untouchable!" She pokes his chest. "Newsflash! A bullet won't care if you're white!" She snapped.

Nathan was stunned to silence. "O-okay, I️ hear you," he backs down.

"Do you, Nate?" She doubted, looking like she was on the verge of crying. "Fuck!" She shoved him again. Soon enough, she was taking out all her frustration on his chest, until she broke down. "Are you gonna make me go through the pain of losing another man I️ care about?!" She shouted at him.

He wordlessly pulled her against him and held her as she cried. Her words hit him harder than he expected. He didn't realize all the stupid shit he was pulling, and quite frankly he was surprised he was still alive. But after what he did, he was sure it wasn't gonna be for too long.

"What...what do I️ do?" He asked her. "What can I️ do-"

Jessica looked up at him in sadness, shaking her head. "There's nothing you can do. It's official, you got a hit out on you," she warns him. "After tonight, you have to leave," she urged.

"What about you?" He said. "I'm not leaving you to face him alone!"

"I'll try to talk to him? I️ don't know," she lets out an exasperated groan as she sits on an abandoned couch. "Hopefully appeal to his good side," she grumbles.

"I️ really made a mess huh?" He sits next to her. "I️ didn't-"

"It doesn't matter what you mean or didn't mean. What's done is done," she cuts him off. "And I️ have to be the one to fix it."

Nate looked down thoughtfully. "So...what? That's it? I️ leave and you stay here?" He says in disbelief. "I️ can't accept that," he shakes his head.

Jessica gives him a look. "Nate it was gonna be like that anyways," she reminds him. "I️ stayed here in the barrio and you went back to college," she tells him, placing on hand on his knee, scooting closer. "This was nothing more than some summer fling-"

"Bullshit," he spat. "You think I'd beat up some asshole thug for a summer fling?" He pointed out. "You're more to me than that," he admitted. "And you know it."

Before she could reply even reply his lips were on hers. It's gentle and slow but filled with a desire they can feel all around them. When they kiss tongue and biting lips and breaths mingling and love.

Her hands are moving up his torso, over his stomach, his shoulders, his neck. She takes his face in between them and just looks at him for a moment. There's something in her eyes he can't place. He doesn't really want to either. It's like she sees more in him. So much more than anyone ever did. Than anyone ever bothered looking for.

And he felt like such an asshole for leaving her.
