Letty is gone

(8 years later) (Lexie POV)

It's been 8 years since I've seen or heard from anyone in the BAU. I've been living with Dom and Letty. We've had a few new recruits such as Santos, Han Lue, and Leo. I am now 23 years old and I would say I am a pretty good driver. Now we have a job. "All right, we're good to go." Dom says over the walkies. "You got this?" Leo questions in Spanish to Santos but we all hear him. "You bet your ass, bubba." Santos says in Spanish. "Let's make some money!" Leo says. "Everyone in position." Dom says and I get in position which was behind Letty. "I thought we'd be robbing banks by now, not some gas truck in the middle of nowhere." Han says. "Down here, gas is gold, bubba." Santos says and I laugh. "Kill the chatter! Game time." Dom says and I grab my walkie. "I wouldn't piss him off guys." I say.

"Okay, guys, we're gonna have to hit this hard and fast. We got four K left before the downgrade." Dom says and I nod. "Locked and loaded." Han says. We surround the truck and the tires of all of our cars including the truck start squealing and the truck starts to honk at us. "This is all you, Han." Dom says and I smirk. "Liquid gold." I see Han mutter. "We're clear." Han says after a few moments. "Okay, T, you're up. Let's see if you can get it under six this time, huh, T?" Santos says in Spanish and I snicker. "It's more like three." Leo says. "Come on, Tego, keep it real." Santos says. Tires continue squealing and I look ahead and grab my walkie. "Just one K left. We're running out of road." I say. "Get in there, brother." Santos says. "I got it, I got it." Leo says and there is yelling and I see Letty on top of the truck. "Shit!" I exclaim. "T, cut loose!" I shout into the walkie. "Unhitch, unhitch!" Leo exclaims. The truck starts swaying. "Spray that hitch!" I shout to Letty. "I don't have a hammer!" Letty shouts back. "Just do it!" I exclaim and the truck starts swaying. "Hold on! Hold on!" Everyone shouts to Letty. "No shit!" Letty exclaims back. "Hold onto something tight!" Dom shouts and Letty grabs a ladder and holds onto it tightly.

"Letty! Give me your hand!" Dom shouts to Letty. "I can't reach!" Letty shouts. "You got to jump!" Dom shouts. The brakes continue screeching. "Jump! Letty, jump! I've got you!" Dom shouts and Letty jumps and Dom catches her and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Suddenly the truck catches on fire and I brake and I get out of my car as I see Dom sitting there with his car. "What the fuck is he doing?" I question and Dom drives right under the truck and the truck goes over a cliff. I run to the car and as soon as Letty steps out I hug her. "Don't ever do that shit again." I mumble into her shoulder and she laughs.

We made it back to the island and I was sitting next to Letty as we looked out onto the ocean on a rock. Dom walks over and I stand up and I smile at him. I walk towards where Han, Leo, and Santos were. "It's beautiful here." Santos says in Spanish. "Very." I respond back.

(Time Skip)

I was sat on the couch in Dom, Letty, and I's house. The phone started ringing. Dom answered it. "Mia, I told you not to call me here." Dom says. After a few moments Dom hands me the phone and he leaves. "Mia?" I question and Mia starts speaking shakily. "Lexie...Letty's been murdered." Mia says and my whole world breaks right then and there. I then get a call from my cell. "I-I have to go." I say to Mia and I hang up and I answer my cell. "H-Hello?" I question. "Alexis Ortiz?" A familiar man questions. "Who's asking?" I question. "Aaron Hotchner is asking." Hotch says and I sigh. "Hotch? W-What happened?" I question. "We need you here." Hotch says and I sigh. "Okay." I say with a sigh and I hang up and rush to my room. I get changed into a t-shirt and jeans, I pack my bags and I see Dom. "Dom, I need to leave. I have to get my mind off of Letty." I say and Dom nods and hugs me. "Bye Alexis." He says and I nod. "Bye Dom." I say and I wipe my eyes.

I go to the airport and I go on a flight to Quantico. Once we land I hail a taxi. "BAU unit please." I say and the man drives off towards the BAU unit, when we made it there I paid him and walked inside the building, after 8 years I was finally back. I go to the elevator and I pressed the 6th floor and I walked in and saw everyone in a flurry. I walked to where Hotch's office was and I see him at his desk. "Hotch?" I question and he looks up. "Alexis Ortiz?" He questions and I nod. "Long time no see Lexie, a lot has changed when you left." He says not bitterly but more caring? "Could you catch me up on it?" I question and he nods. We step out of his office and we start walking around. "You desk was left untouched." He says and I laugh. "Gee Hotch, I left for a while, I didn't die." I say and he chuckles. "We have a new Agent, Emily Prentiss. Along with Agent David Rossi." He says and my eyes widen. "Really?" I question. "David Rossi? Like thee David Rossi?" I question and he nods. "Hey, if you guys are hungry, I know a pretty good Indian restaurant that's open all night." A very familiar voice says. I turn to Hotch. 'Spencer?' I mouth and Hotch nods. I go to my desk and I sit down. "Oh, I can't. I have a date." A black haired woman I assumed was Agent Prentiss says. "You got a date? With who?" Morgan says. "My hot tub." Prentiss says. "Now that sounds like a party." Morgan says. "You're so not invited." Prentiss says and Morgan slaps himself. "Hold up, guys." A very pregnant JJ say and my eyes widen. "Change of plans." Spencer says and I am kind of shocked they didn't catch me. "I'm glad I caught you." JJ says. "Is everything okay?" Prentiss questions.

"I've been on the phone with a sheriff in Nevada. There's been a series of suspicious accidents In the reno area that may be connected." JJ says. "JJ, this can't wait till morning?" Morgan questions. "I don't think so. If I'm right about this, I think we'll be leaving first thing tomorrow. Sorry." JJ says and Hotch speaks up. "Then I am sure glad I brought some extra help." Hotch says and he motions to me. "Who is she?" Morgan says while smirking at me. I grab my hacky sack from my pocket and I throw it at Morgan. "Only one person does that...Lexie!" Morgan says and he hugs me and I laugh. "Lexie?" JJ questions and she looks at me. "Oh my god, you are so grown up, it's been what 8 years?" JJ questions. "Look at me? Look at you!" I exclaim holding her stomach. "Lex?" Spencer questions and I turn and I smile. "Hey Reiders." I say and we hug. I let go and I see Prentiss looking awkward. "Hi, I'm Agent Alexis Ortiz." I say holding out my hand and she smiles. "Emily Prentiss." She says and we shake hands. "Now what happened in Nevada?" I question. We all go into the briefing room.

"Three nights ago outside of reno, This car was hit by a tractor trailer." JJ says. "Any survivors?" Morgan questions. "The truck driver walked away unharmed. Jonathan and Rebecca Gallen, the passengers in the car, were Doa. When the local sheriff arrived on the scene, He noticed several things No blood spatter inside the car. No seat belt burns. No lacerations from the air bags." JJ says. "They were dead before the accident." Spencer says. "The autopsy confirmed that and the cause of death. Blunt force head trauma And evidence of rape and torture to the woman." JJ says and I shudder. "The unsub wasn't very successful at hiding the fact that he murdered two people." Hotch says and I nod in agreement. "There's a chance he has gotten away with it before. After I spoke to the sheriff, I had Garcia look into any similar accidents Near the California, Nevada border. She found two with a similar M.O. In the past couple of weeks. Both were couples, in a car, hit by a tractor trailer." JJ says. "It's always a man and a woman stopped right in the middle of the road." Morgan says. "It's always at night on a remote highway." Emily says. "It can't be a coincidence the victim type And this very specific M.O. Are the same in all three cases." Rossi says. "Was Garcia able to find any connection between them?" Hotch questions. "One thing they have in common is that they all disappeared For 48 hours prior to the accidents." JJ says. "We know what he does to his victims during that time. We just need to figure out where he finds them." I say.

We then board the plane and I lay down on the couch facing up and throwing the hackysack up and down. "JJ?" Emily questions JJ who was placing headphones on her stomach. "It's so the baby can't hear." JJ says. "What's he listening to?" Emily questions. "Beethoven." JJ says. "I personally preferred Mozart, myself." Spencer says. "Of course you would Reiders. But be careful to limit his exposure to one hour a day. Amniotic fluids have a tendency to amplify sound." I say and everyone looks at me. "My friend from Rio is pregnant." I say and they nod. "Thanks for the reminder Al." JJ says and I nod with a smile. "Ok, so, all three crashes were on highways Outside of Carson city, lake Tahoe and Reno." JJ says. "All cities with a large and diverse, transit population." I say. "Not to mention the thousands of locals mixing with seasonal workers." Emily says. "An endless pool of victims to chose from." Rossi says.  "Rebecca Gallen was beaten badly. Ribs broken ante-Mortem. He'd need time and privacy to do this." Hotch says. "That would suggest the killer either lives or works in the area." Spencer says. "He's going to such extremes to try and hide the murders. Maybe he has a connection to the victims." Morgan says. "What does the press know?" I question. "All media outlets are reporting an accident." JJ says. "One thing going for us, the killer has no idea we know." Emily says. "That helps us. JJ, when we land, would you explain to sheriff Bruner and his deputies How important it is to keep this quiet?" Hotch says. "Got it." JJ says with a nod. "If the unsub finds out we're here, All bets are off. He could change his M.O. Or just pick up and find his victims somewhere else." Hotch says and I nod.

We eventually land in Nevada and we go to the station. I walk with Morgan and Spencer and we stay out of the way as JJ and the Sherriff speak to the other officers. "Lex look." Spencer says and I see a corkboard. "Evidence board." I say and we start pinning up the photos on the board. "From this point on, the company line is simple. The FBI's here investigating a missing persons." The Sherriff says. "You may be thinking, if the public knew the truth, They might be able to help us. But we can't risk this getting out Because this killer needs to believe he's getting away with murder." JJ says. "Any future calls related to this investigation Can be directed to me or Agent Jareau." The Sherriff says. "Remember, if we can just keep a lid on this now It'll only help us later. Thanks." JJ says. "Thank you, Agent Jareau." The Sherriff says and soon the officers file out. "Yeah. Just doing my job." JJ says. Soon Hotch and Rossi come to view. "Ah, it's not much, but it's a place to hang your hats." The Sherriff says. "All we need is a table and an evidence board." Hotch says. "Sheriff, if you don't mind, Some of us would like to go to the site of the accident." Rossi says. "I'll have a deputy take you." Sherriff says. "Rebecca Gallen's father is coming in to claim the bodies." Sherriff says. "Why don't you let us take care of that? I'd appreciate it." Hotch says. "I'll drive you myself." Sherriff says. "Do you have any aerial photos of the crash sites?" Rossi questions. "We didn't think to get any." Sherriff says. "Not a problem. I'll have our technical analyst get some from the NSA. I'd like to see what the areas surrounding the highways are like." Rossi says.

I hear footsteps behind me and I start moving towards the map and I look it over. "First victims, Fritz and Johanna Dietrich, Were found ten days ago, visiting from Germany." Hotch says. "Their accident site was on highway 50 just south of Tahoe." Spencer says putting a pin in the area. "Second couple, Melissa and tom Taylor, were from Oregon. They were found on the 267, northeast of Tahoe, Not far from the interstate." Hotch says and I grab a pin and I look at the area. "It's right here." I say putting the pin in it. "And the latest victims, Jonathan and Rebecca Gallen, were from Arizona. Their accident occurred between Reno and Carson city on highway 395." Hotch says. "Right here." Spencer says putting the pin in it. "What if this unsub has something against travelers?" I question. "A possibility. Plus all three couples were staying in the area without reservations." JJ says. "And the only transactions on their credit cards Were from gas stations hundred of miles away." Hotch says. "The common theme here is no paper trail. If no one can contact them or trace them, they become the perfect victims." Spencer says and I nod in agreement. JJ looks down at her watch. "Rebecca Gallen's father is going to be here soon." JJ says. " I'll talk to him. Maybe he can help us fill in some of the blanks." Hotch says.

Eventually Hotch and Mr. Gallen go into a room and start talking. "We have a witness who can put the Gallen's at a diner in Sherwood." Hotch says. "So it's possible they were staying close by." JJ says. I see Spencer dialing a number. "I thought you forgot about me. It hurt." The familiar voice of Penelope Garcia says. "Garcia, what information do you have on Sherwood, Nevada?" Spencer questions. "Uhh...Sherwood. A lovely town that is east of lake Tahoe Near the state line. This area has close to 300 hotels, motels and resorts." Garcia says. "Garcia, can you send us a list of--" I am cut off by Garcia herself. "Addresses and phone numbers?" She questions and I smile slightly. "On its way, kind sir, and ma'am...Oh my god Peaches!" Garcia exclaims. "How'd you know?" I question. "I never forget a voice, and you my fine friend have a distinct voice." Garcia says and I smile. "Thanks lucky penny." I say. "Anything else I can do you for?" Garcia questions. "Not for now." Hotch says. "Thank you, Garcia." Spencer and I both say. "You, my fine furry friends, are welcome." Garcia says and she hangs up. "Remind me to have her drug tested." Hotch says and I snicker slightly. "So what's our plan?" JJ questions. "I'll start narrowing down the list with Lexie." Spencer says and I nod in agreement. "Then what?" JJ questions. "We knock on every door And show pictures of the Gallen's." Hotch says. "That could take days, weeks even." JJ says. "I know we don't have the manpower, But at this point, what choice do we have?" Hotch questions and walks away. "There's that determined spirit I remember." I mumble.

(The Next Day)

I woke up and I headed downstairs towards the lobby in the hotel we were staying in. I went to the café to get some coffee and I see Spencer there pouring a shit ton of sugar in his cup. "Dang." I say and I start making myself a cup. "Where were you all these years?" Spencer questions and I turn to him. "In hiding, in Rio. With my sister." I say and I tear up slightly. "What's wrong?" He questions. "I'll tell you later." I say and Spencer's phone rings. "Yeah? We'll be there." Spencer says and he grabs his cup and I grab mine. "JJ needs us." He says and we go to his car and he drives us to the station. When we get out we see Hotch and we walk in with him. "Morning JJ." Spencer and I both say. "Sorry for the wake up call." She says. "It's all right. Wasn't sleeping." Hotch says. "Looks like we've got a possible missing persons." JJ says. "Ian and Abby Corbin were in Reno for the weekend. They were supposed to be home yesterday." JJ says. "Where's home?" I question handing a pin to Spencer. "San Luis Obispo." JJ says and he puts the pin in the place. "They could've driven right through Sherwood." Spencer says. "They've already been missing a night. His mom's looking after their two kids." JJ says with worry. I smell the air with a grimace and I shake my head. "Call me when everybody gets here." Hotch says and he leaves. "What is this? Left-Over kung pao chicken? That's disgusting." I say grabbing the boxes along with JJ and we throw them away. The Sherriff chuckles. "What?" I question. "The smell of Chinese food makes you sick, But you don't even flinch when you look at those pictures." He says and I shake my head. "She's pretty tough." Spencer says. "Thanks, plus I've seen worse." I say going back to the board.

(Time Skip)

"Ian and Abby Corbin have already been missing for over 24 hours. Which means we may only have until tonight to find them." Hotch says while we sit at the table. "According to their families, they left Reno yesterday And were planning on stopping somewhere for the night." Hotch says. "They didn't use a credit card. Unless they travel with a lot of cash. The room wasn't too expensive." Rossi says. "They were not traveling on the interstate." Emily says. "That eliminates over half of our previous search." I say. "Sounds like we're looking for somebody Who works the night shift at a back road motel." Sherriff says. "And we think he's most likely in his early to mid-Thirties." Spencer says. "Why is that?" Sherriff questions. "Abducting couples is an ambitious task. And this guy's had time to perfect his skill." Spencer says. "He could be older." Sherriff says. "Don't get hung up on his age. That's the hardest thing to predict." Rossi says and I nod. "What we do know is females take extensive beatings from him. That, combined with the sexual assault, tells us he's a violent anger excitation rapist. A sexual sadist like this can't get off unless he's torturing and watching the effects on his victims." Morgan says while holding the pictures. "Part of the torture is psychological. This is another reason he takes couples. Chances are he forces one to watch his power over the other." Rossi says. "Because only the women suffer sexual torture, He's likely a magnant misogynist. This typically stems from an extreme hatred towards a woman Who was relentless in her psychological and physical abuse." I say.

"How do you know the dad wasn't the abusive one? And he's just continuing the cycle?" An officer questions. "Only a woman could make him hate women this much." I say. "The idea of the "terrible mother" is best illustrated In world mythology by the negative aspects of the great mother. Instead of nurturing her children, she destroyed him." Spencer says. "And given this upbringing, It's highly unlikely he'd ever been in a relationship, Let alone been married." Hotch says. "And since he works in the service industry, He's forced to deal with a lot of people. So he can probably hide his aversion to women Until he gets them behind closed doors." Morgan says. "With that said, we shouldn't rule out anyone With prior offenses toward women." Rossi says. "Given the amount of time he spends with his victims, He requires a great deal of privacy. He may even utilize an ATV to get away from the accident sites, So the property may back up onto an off-Road trail. We should therefore concentrate on the most remote motels first. Thank you." Hotch says and the officers leave.

I was leaning against the wall next to the corkboard. "It's already dark, and we've barely gotten through half of the motels." JJ says. "Maybe he's not in the remote areas." Spencer says and I look over. "You think he's hiding in the middle of everything?" Hotch questions. "Maybe." Spencer says. "Let's go." Hotch says. "Wait. Guys? Garcia found a connection between a motel handyman and Rebecca Gallen. They went to high school together. So, I thought maybe he was connected to other victims. It turns out he's not, But there's something else that all of the women have in common. Rebecca Gallen was found in a bra, t-Shirt, Skirt and flip flops. Johanna Dietrich in a dress and sandals. Melissa Taylor was wearing a bra, tank top, and jeans. None of them were wearing underwear." Emily says. "How do you know it was taken?" Spencer questions. "Because they all packed it in their bags, But none were wearing it during the collisions. He leaves his victims in a car without their underwear And waits for them to be hit. A violent collision of metal against flesh. It's like the accidents are the final rape. This sexual aspect didn't show up over night This is something he's been building up to." Emily says and I nod my head. "So this guy sees these collisions as some kind of rape." Sherriff says. "We know that an underwear fetish typically begins In adolescence with peeping in neighbors' windows. Spencer stops and motions for me to continue. "They'll burglarize homes and start taking the object that arouses them. If they get away with that long enough, They become more confident. Then the object becomes the woman wearing it. That's when rape can occur." I say. "The one constant is they always take the underwear as a souvenir." Emily says.

"Is it possible a pervert like this has ever been arrested?" Sherriff questions. "There's a good chance a serial sex offender with an underwear fetish has been caught before." Hotch says. "Right again Agent Hotchner." Garcia says from the phone. "What is it, Garcia?" Hotch questions. "For the last two days I've been searching through Vicap for similar rapes and murders in cases that are still open. That has yielded me diddly squat. So I regrouped. I looked at some pictures of baby pandas. I went back I and I started searching for similar rapes and murders in cases that had been solved. Okay?" Garcia questioned. "What did you find?" Emily and I question. "Five months ago this guy named Clint Barnes Is convicted of 5 rapes that have been 30 miles away in Selbyville. Now, what's interesting And by interesting I also mean icky and sad and wrong, is that Mr. Barnes only stole the undergarment of his last victim and she was beat in exactly the same manner as our current victims. And she was the only one who died." Garcia says. "The first four showed no sign of torture?" JJ questions. "According to statements made by the survivors, yes. Some questions about his performance. Things like, "did you enjoy it?"" Garcia says. "That sounds like a power reassurance rapist. That doesn't fit his last crime all." Spencer says. "The last victim wasn't his. It was our unsub's." Hotch says.

After a while the Sherriff walks over with a box of files. "Files rushed over from the D.A.'S office." The Sherriff says. "How many suspects did the have in the Selbyville case?" Morgan questions. "Let's see. Including Clint Barnes, says they had about 10 other men who looked good for it. Brought in double that for questioning. Spencer says. "JJ, cross-reference these names of suspects. See if you get a match with people we still need to talk to in Sherwood." Hotch says. "You got it." JJ says. "You can us my office." The Sherriff says. "Almost all these guys had criminal records." I say. "Almost all these guys had criminal records. Offenses range from spousal abuse, sex crimes, molestation and attempted rape." Morgan says and I look over the file. "Our unsub is using brutal, physical force and extreme violence. Look for somebody who's angry and hostile towards his victims." Spencer says handing out the files. "Look for an intellectual component. This guy used the M.O. of another rapist to make sure the wrong person went to jail for his crimes." Rossi says. "The Selbyville police talked to our unsub. He looked good for these crimes. He's in here somewhere." Hotch says and we continued looking through the files.

"All right, Garcia, let's try again." Hotch says after many people we've tried. "Go for it." Garcia says. Name's Floyd Henson. Lived and worked in Sherwood his entire life. Went to jail at 25 for breaking and entering." Hotch says. "Our friend got caught red-Handed with some bloomers Charged with attempted rape. Jerk served time, got out a year ago. His last known address is at the crest cottages. JJ, the list of hotels and motels we went to. I interviewed the manager there. His name was Dryden, right?" Hotch questions and JJ starts reading the file. "Employee records say Wayne Dryden was fired from the crest cottages six months ago. The only employee now is the owner... Floyd Hansen." JJ says and my eyes widen and I look over.

Spencer and I go in the backseat of an SUV, while Rossi takes the passenger seat and Hotch is driving. "I should've taken my own advice and gotten some rest." Hotch says. "Hotch, we've talked to so many people. It could've been any of us." Rossi says and Spencer's phone rings. "Hello? Hello?" Garcia says on the phone. "Do you hear me, Garcia?" Spencer says into his phone. "Yeah, that's better. I can sort of hear you. So, like I was saying, It looks like Floyd Hansen didn't even have a chance. His mother drank herself to death when he was two. Father remarried but to a prostitute." Garcia says. "Where's his father now?" Hotch questions. "He died six months ago. Floyd inherited the crest cottages from--" There was just static. "Garcia?" I questions. "We lost her." Spencer says. "Timeline fits. He gets out of jail a year ago, He's on good behavior for a few months. But the urges are too strong, Rapes and kills a woman, But he's smart enough to blame it on another guy." Spencer says. "His father dies, he inherits all the privacy, Control and victims he could ever need." Rossi says and I nod.

We make it there and we rush out. I grab a bulletproof vest and Hotch hands me a holstered gun and I smile realizing it was mine. I holster it and I watch as the others come out. "There are 10 cabins on 10 acres. There are maps outside the office. He's got a lot of privacy. There's a garage, there's the sheds, there's stables..." Hotch says. "Why not keep them in one of the cabins?" Emily questions. "We're going to have to check everything." Hotch says. "We'll look in here." Rossi says. "Ok. Morgan, Prentiss this way." Hotch says and I grab my gun and I walk behind Rossi. We walk into a room and Spencer opens a drawer pulling out newspaper clippings. "He's been following the investigation." Spencer says. Rossi then grabs a bag full of women's underwear. I grimace. "He's been at this longer than we thought." Rossi says and we continue looking. After a while I hear sirens and I look outside and I motion for Rossi and Spencer to follow me, we walk outside and paramedics take Ian and Abby to the hospital and they check their wounds.

We are leaning against a car and Emily comes up to us. "Well, roadside motels definitely go on my list. Of things to never do again." Emily says. "You've got a list?" Spencer questions. "You don't?" Rossi questions. "It's going to take a while to get this mess cleaned up." Morgan says. "Well, it's going to take a hell of a lot longer for that couple to recover." I say. "Hey Lex, I was wondering if you aren't too busy. Maybe we could get coffee to y'know catch up?" Spencer questions and I shrug. "Sure." I say and he smiles.
