A while later..

"Yeah. I think I'll swing by around 6 to help her out before tomorrow." I answered, cleaning the countertop of the two-bedroom apartment.

My mother hesitated, "Are you sure? I mean I think she can get more of his family to help.."

"No. I'm going. Don't worry." I insisted as I threw my bag over the couch, "She can't do this alone."

She only sighed and went back to folding laundry.

Brendon still hadn't woken up and Halsey has suddenly living and breathing medical terms to explain what had happened. Basically, with what Brendon had been doing underage and with how much of it, he'd put himself in bad shape. So bad - he'd fall into the sleep of death.

"It's just that Tyler.." she started.

"Mom," I whispered, "he'll be okay."

My mother sighed, and threw the freshly folded towels into a basket by our old couch.

Suddenly, a knock on the door.

"I'll get it." I shouted, stumbling over furniture to get to the door.

Taking a moment to regain myself, I opened the door to see Tyler with a bouquet of white roses, and an uneasy smile across his perfect face, "Happy Valentine's Da- oh."

shit.

Looking down at my sweats and ragged hair, I realized, "Ugh. I forgot."

Had I been so caught up, I didn't even notice the date? No. We planned this day out so perfectly, how could I forget? I was making a complete fool out of myself.

His smile only weakened, his confidence seemed to fall so fast, "Oh, sorry to interrupt then."

"No! You didn't interrupt anything. Don't worry." I went out of the way to wrap my arms around his waist, looking up at his now expressionless face.

He began to pull himself away, "I guess you've got to go take care of Brendon. I'll just see you later."

I only pulled him closer, "No, don't go. Come to the hospital with me."

"I'd rather not," he added coldly, "I've got to get myself ready for tomorrow."

Confusion creased across my forehead, "for..?"

Tyler sighed and pulled himself away fully this time, "The meeting? For my scholarship? I thought you were coming.."

"Right, Right." I said, shaking my head, "Where and when?"

He groaned this time, surprising me, "I've told you about one hundred times."

I bit my lip, feeling extremely embarrassed, "Well, can you tell me again?"

His eyes looked down at the welcome mat he stood over. My mother shouted from the other room, "Two o'clock at the coffee shop down the street!"

ugh. thanks mom.

"Oh, yeah. I'm coming." I smiled, "Don't worry."

No matter what, I'd be having to make him happy.

He rolled his eyes and handed me the roses, "Please, this means so much to me. You don't eve have to say anything, just show him how a guy like me can get a girl as gorgeous as you."

My heart fluttered, and my cheeks turned a bright pink, "Okay.."

He leaned down and pressed his lips against mine, pulling away to whisper, "See you tomorrow. Tell Halsey I say hi."

I smiled, "I will."

Walking away, he pushed a small smile onto his face and rubbed the back of his neck in nervousness. The door slammed behind me, as I leaned against the closed door in exhaustion.

My mother gave me an apologetic smile while she washed what was left of the dishes, "I tried to remind you, baby."

I sighed and fell to the floor, "I know."

I still couldn't believe I'd been so caught up on helping Halsey that I completely forgot about the day. Tyler and I still hadn't even started on the song due in just a few weeks, not to mention the Narrative I'd have to have finished by May, hoping I'll get an agent in my writing career.

My head began to pound, when I realized the stress had muted my mother.

"Harley!" she called.

"Ugh. Sorry. What?" I asked, blinking.

She smiled, suddenly sincere, "I was asking, where was Tyler going to take you today anyway?"

I laughed, "Well he was gonna pick the place to eat.."

"Meaning.." She turned the water off and dried her hand onto the cloth by the kitchen sink.

"Meaning we were probably gonna try to have a romantic dinner at Taco Bell, mom," I chuckled, ' It's Tyler, let's be real."

We both laughed without stopping.

* * * *

I'd grown to know the ways of the hospital all too well. Entering the waiting room, sobs from all corners of the building seemed to be transferred into a megaphone leading there.

Although I couldn't help but eavesdrop on the happier visitors that seemed to lighten up the room.

Curled up in my usual spot, I listened in on the conversation beheld by the new and seemingly happy family beaming as they sat down in their own section of the room.

"How long did they say the surgery would be?" asked an older man, as he turned to what looked like his wife.

She looked down at her phone and smiled, "About 24 hours."

A little girl that looked about the age of seven, hummed as she scribbled away at the notebook in her lap beside them.

I couldn't help but grin back, noticing we had both been writing directly across the room from each other. Remembering how much I resembled her at that age, memories flooded back and I realized I had been staring into space. I shook the thoughts away and looked back at the blonde beauty across the room.

She smiled back at me. My heart warmed at the sight of her waving. Waving back, I noticed a familiar sniffle sounding behind me.

I turned to see Halsey, as usual lately, looking absolutely terrible.

Bautiful, but oh so terrible.

"Can I talk to you for a bit? I need to tell you something."

My chest grew cold and my insides turned, "uh, yeah. Just let me get my stuff."

She walked out of the room, and I picked up my things to follow.

"Just. Come sit down." she quivered.

I felt as if my stomach was about to burst. My worst nightmare. Halsey had found out.

Panic flew through me faster than anything id come to think of. I've thought about this day so many time but not like this. I now didn't know how to respond.

I sat down beside her in the chairs placed directly outside Brendon's room, struggling to find the breath I once had a minute ago.

After a bit of staring off, we both glanced over at each other, obviously both already knowing what she was about to tell.

She cleared her face and I made eye contact again.

I couldn't bare it anymore, "Look Halsey, I'm so so sor-"

"Harley, I think I'm pregnant." she croaked.
