Chapter 4

The next day at school, Rachel was at her locker trading out her books when Quinn came running up to her with a huge smile on her face.  "Oh hey Quinn...." before Rachel could finish, Quinn had brought her into a hug.  "I take it things went well with Santana?" Rachel inquired.  "Better than that" Quinn responded.  "Sue wasn't willing to let San off the bottom of the pyramid, but Santana was able to convince her to position you higher on the pyramid.  I came to tell you the good news."  "That's incredible!" Rachel says pulling Quinn into another hug.  "But, why did San tell Sue to put me up higher?"  "Well, you're kind of growing on her.  She told me that if anyone slushies you that she'll go all Lima Heights on their asses." Quinn explained.  "Oh, I'm so excited!" Rachel squealed.

Finn walks up to both of them, "Hey Rach.  Quinn."  "Hey Finn" Rachel replied.  "I know that you've been a lot busier with being on cheerios, but I was wondering if you wanted to go out tonight.  Maybe to Breadstix."  Rachel looked disappointed, she already had plans to work on a Britney song with Quinn tonight.  But at the same time, she had already forgiven Finn for thinking she was using Quinn to become popular, and she didn't want things to become awkward with him again.  "I don't know.  I already told Quinn I'd work with her on this week's project for Glee club." Rachel said.   "Come on Rach, you can hangout with Quinn any other day.  I'd just like one day, where I can have you to myself."  Finn stated.  "But Finn, I promised."  "Rach come on, we've barely hung out since you joined cheerios.  It's like you don't even want to spend time with me."

Rachel couldn't help but look down.  Quinn's heart sank, she couldn't believe how Finn was treating Rachel.  He was trying to guilt trip her so that she would change her plans at the last minute.  "Can I get back to you later?" Rachel asked Finn.  "I just need time to think."  "Fine.  Just let me know by the end of the day."  Finn said before he walked away.  Rachel looked at Quinn, "Sorry you had to see that."  Before Quinn could answer, Rachel slammed her locker shut and walked away with a huff, leaving Quinn standing there by herself completely shell shocked.

Later that day Quinn walked into the library and noticed Rachel sitting at a table by herself.  She thought to herself, "Why does she look so sad?"  Quinn approached Rachel, "Hey.  Can I join you?" she asked.  "Sure." Rachel responded.  Quinn sat down at the table, sitting across from Rachel.  "You okay?" Quinn asked her.  "Not really." Rachel responded.  "You wanna talk about it?" Quinn asked.  "He's just been so possessive lately.  It's only gotten worse since I've had to miss a few of our dates because of my exhaustion due to cheerios practice."  "Does he usually try to guilt trip you into doing what he wants?" Quinn asked.  "Only when I told him I had already mad plans with you." Rachel stated.  Quinn could not believe her ears.  Finn has a problem with Rachel hanging out with her.  "Why does he have a problem with the two of us hanging out together?  Is it because he and I used to date or something?"  Rachel shook her head before answering, "No.  Maybe.  I don't know.  Whenever I try to ask him about it, he either stays silent then walks away, or he just dodges the question and asks me out again."  Quinn looked at her with knowing eyes and reached her hand out towards her as a sign of comfort.  Rachel looked at Quinn's hand and after some hesitation, took Quinn's hand in hers.

"Her hands are so soft," Quinn thought to herself.  "You know, the reason I was in a relationship with Finn was because I cared more about my rep then I did about my happiness."  Quinn said.  "So you would have been with Noah if you put your happiness before your rep?"  Rachel asked.  "No" Quinn responded.  "If I was more interested in my happiness instead of my rep, I would have been by myself.  I really wasn't pining for anyone back then."  Rachel squeezed Quinn's hand as a sign of comfort, which resulted in both girls smiling at each other.  "What do you think I should do?"  Rachel asked.  Quinn looked at Rachel not sure of what to say.  On the one hand she thinks that Rachel should dump him because of how horribly he has been treating her.  On the other hand, she doesn't want to make Rachel even more upset.  Since becoming her friend, she has been looking out for Rachel and wanted to put her happiness first, since prior to becoming friends, she was the reason that Rachel would end up leaving school most days in tears wearing a slushy on her face.  "Rachel, know that I'm being honest when I say, I'm not sure." Quinn stated.  "Let me ask you this, does Finn make you happy?" she asked.  "Well..." Rachel started, "he did and does, at least sometimes."  "Sometimes?"  "When he's not being selfish and trying to guilt trip me into going out, he treats me like I'm a princess, like my dads do.  But more often then not, he's putting himself first." Rachel said.

"I just..."  "What?" Quinn asked.  "Nothing, it's stupid." Rachel said pulling her hand away from Quinn's.  "Rachel, come on you can tell me." Quinn said.  Rachel looked at her realizing that she wasn't ready to tell all her friends, but Quinn's one of her best friends and she knows Quinn can keep a secret.  "If I tell you, you can't repeat this to anyone, not even Santana and Brittany.  Promise?"  "I promise." Quinn said reaching out to Rachel once again.  Rachel reconnects their hands and takes a deep breath, "Okay.  Sometimes, I just wonder if it would be easier if I were dating a girl."  Quinn opens her mouth shocked, "Wait Rachel, what?!"  "I'm bisexual.  I like both guys and girls." Rachel stated.  Quinn was completely surprised by Rachel's admission, but she was happy that Rachel told her.  "Why are you scared to tell people that?" Quinn asked her.  "Come on Quinn, one, information or rather rumors travel fast here.  Two, I'd be an even bigger target if I were dating a girl.  Think about it, the girl raised by two gay dads ends up 'following in their footsteps' for lack of better words."  Rachel explained.  "I know I still have a target on my back even though I'm on cheerios.  I just don't want to make that target even bigger.  I'd like to keep the slushies I get this year to a minimum."  "I won't tell anyone.  Your secret is safe with me.  I promise."  Quinn said.  "And if anyone slushies you this year, they'll have to deal with me."

Rachel looked at Quinn and knew that she was telling the truth and she could trust her.  Rachel squeezed Quinn's hand which resulted in Quinn squeezing back.  Both girls smiled at each other completely unaware that Finn was watching them out in the hallway.  Once the bell rang, Finn walked away, and the girls got up from the table.  Before leaving the library, Quinn put her hand on Rachel's shoulder and said, "Whatever you decide to do, I'm here for you and you've got my support."  Rachel smiled and pulled Quinn into a hug.  "Mmmm, she smells like vanilla," Rachel thought to herself.  After they broke apart, they walked off to their next class.
