Omniscient POV

The sun was just starting to come down and the moon to take its place hovering over the lonely and quiet forest of Little River, California. The sound of the nearby falls is the only sound that you can hear. A sound that calms a lonely girl named Elodie.

Living in a cave kind of place is something she never wished for. A single and foldable bed was placed near by the cave's window, (more like a hole) a table that her sister made, and a white cooler that has broken handle.
We can all agree that she lacks decent luxury but that does not mean she lacks happiness.

Even though her life will never be as close to the word "Simple life", There is one thing that she has that every living creature would ask for. And that is her sister, Tori, a beautiful and caring woman that does not know the word "Give Up". The hardest part of having a hard life is seeing your only family living a life that they do not deserved. Tori would always make sure that Elodie will not feel the hard reality of life, making her work two jobs. She works at a rundown café for seven hours and she cleans a massive parking lot of a well-known hospital at night after coming home and bringing food for Elodie who busies herself catching butterflies in the forest.

🌷Tori's Point of View

Sweat was running down all over my body, I was just finishing my shift which consist of tidying the place up, cleaning tables, and washing the dirty dishes. I have been working here for almost a year now and I am thankful being accepted since I did not get to finish high school. That is probably because cleaning tables does not need any kind of diploma. The lady that owns the place is nice. She is a single mother of two young boys and She and her late husband built this café.

"Tori?" Lana called from the kitchen making me stop tidying the last table.

"Yeah, do you need me in there? I'm about to be done here."

Minutes later she came rushing out of the kitchen approaching me.

"I just need to tell you that I'm closing this place for two days. I'm giving you a spare key so you can go and get something to eat and drink for breakfast while I'm away and please don't ask me why. I'll tell you after I came back" she said making me frown.

"Ok? But Lana, you don't really have to do that, I can go find something ...." But she cut me off before I can even finish what I am about to say.

"No please Tori. It's ok and I actually got something for Elodie, I remember tomorrow is her birthday so here is a little something for her." She said while taking out a pink paper bag from her backpack that was hanging on her left shoulder making her top crinkle on the side.

"Oh Lana, thank you so much, Elodie's surely going to love this."

Lana knew my situation, she really wants to help us, but her house can only fit two people. It isn't that tiny, but it definitely cannot fit two more people.

"That's nothing... here please take this. Make something in the kitchen ok." She said handing me the key before pulling me into a brief hug before walking out and closing the front door. I usually go out the backdoor then lock it because it is way more convenient since there are streetlights and sometimes people are still awake, so I am safe to walk the street there to get home.

After I finished, I took my book sack putting the hotdog waffle inside and grabbing a milk from the fridge that Lana left for me.

...Skip the walk back home...

Walking back home, Tori held her book sack close to her chest making sure that their only food for the night is safe. Stepping on the last stone, she hopped off fast walking as she nears the small cave, she called home. Letting out a loud sigh, she did not care to knock. Turning the knob and pushing the creaky door open, she was surprised by a tight hug from her beloved sister.

She was glad to have enough strength to catch the little one in her arms. Looking down at her sister, a smile brought to her face making her worries and stresses fade away.

🌷Tori's Point of View

"Hey little stinker" Greeting Elodie and setting her down, I closed the door behind me making sure to lock it.

"Toto! Look! I caught another one!" Looking at Elodie, her bright blue eyes shines as she held up a jar in front of me with a beautiful blue butterfly inside resting on top of a tiny log.

Taking the jar from her hands, "What a little beauty! I see you had a fun day huh?"

"Yes, and you know what, I saw two pretty ladies walked past our place" She said immediately making me look down at her while putting down the butterfly jar.

"Elodie.... Did they see you?" I asked. I know by now that the only thing written on my face is worry.

"Yes, after catching the blue butterfly, I saw them approached me and said that I look pretty. They said that they have never been in our territory before. I was about to ask them if they wanted to stay but they declined and told me that they'll visit again but only if I have you here since I told them that I cannot talk to strangers without your permission." Elodie rumbles making me frown.

Visit again? Nobody ever really crosses our territory since we live in a very poor place that is not even called a city.

"Ok but next time you see anybody nears our home, promise me you stay away from them ok?" I told her sternly not wanting to attract any troubles.

"I promise Toto, I sowwy too." She said while looking down at her feet, clearly slipping to little space.

"Hey peanuts, it's okay. I'm not mad, I just worry about your safety okay?" I pulled her into a hug rubbing her back to make her feel better, giving her an eskimo kiss.

Deciding to forget about our eventful day, I placed down the food on the table. Grabbing a pink sippy cup from a box that was placed near the door on top of a plastic cabinet that I bought a year ago, I pour the milk that Lana gave me.

"Here you go. Please finish your waffle, I'm just going to change and wash off ok?" I said while giving Elodie her sippy earning a nod.

Going out of the cave, I went to the nearest falls. I took off my clothes grabbing a loofah. I sat down on a rock while putting my feet on the water.

While washing, my mind drifted to Elodie, how am I supposed to get her a cake? The money that was left can only buy two biscuits. I can make pancakes at the café but still, it is not a cake. Elodie being a little sometimes has its cons since I cannot really buy her comfort things or even give her a decent gift.

My thoughts were interrupted hearing a snap of a twig by the end of the falls. I looked around seeing nothing but nonetheless I finished washing my body not wanting to get into any dangers that the forest has.

Grabbing my clothes on the floor, I did not bother looking back or putting a fabric over my body. I feel like something is out there watching me. But then again, nobody dares to come here since they said that bad things happened here decades ago.

Stepping inside our home, I saw Elodie on top of the mattress laying and already on her jammies. Making sure that I'm dry, I put the clothes on the floor near our door. Laying beside my sister, I did not bother putting on any clothes since she will just shove them away.

You see, having a penny to nothing is what I hate about our situation, I cannot even buy her a single pacifier, so she uses my breast as one.

Pulling the blanket on top of us, I felt her stirred getting comfortable on my side. Rubbing her back, I felt her nuzzle her nose on my chest trying to find my nipple. I hold her head guiding her mouth to latch on my nipple and gave her one last good night kiss on her pinkish cheeks. Seconds later, she finally found her rhythm as her tongue dances around my nipple. Innocence is the only thing you can see on her face.

Having her nurse gives both of us comfort. I guess this is what every mother feels. Thinking about my mother, I missed our parents. If only I could go back in time and save them. I would in a heartbeat.

🌙Soon enough, sleep engulf the two sisters. The wind was strong making the trees in the forest wave to the moon that was watching every living thing that lives at night, including the two mysterious women that was watching the Kellys from a far.
