Ch 9 - Jealousy

"It's madness. They will shoot her on sight," Malachi told him.

"Look, I know it's a risk, but she's not who they think she is. Besides, shouldn't she be allowed to see at least one of her family members? Especially given how confused Silver was to find out she's alive in any case," my fiancé argued.

"You make a good point, but Malachi also makes a good point. Don't you think it would be wiser to have Silver meet us at an agreed destination?" Aziel suggested.

I didn't get to hear the answer as my phone started ringing. I left them arguing while I went to answer my phone. "Hello?"

"Ellie," a familiar voice said.

"Nick?" I asked unsurely.

"You know it's me? I thought you didn't have any memories," he replied.

"Not exactly. I know your voice from some of the memories I have, but I can't really remember your face. Wait, how did you know that I lost my memories?" I asked.

"I know everything Ellie. Before I say anything else, I need you to promise me that you won't tell anyone that you spoke to me," he requested.

I don't know why, but I agreed. "I promise, but why?"

"I'm in a little bit of some trouble, and I need your help. You're the only person who can help me right now because you and I are in the same situation. There are many things that you don't know, and while I have some answers, there are things that shouldn't be revealed yet," he responded.

I sighed. "You're speaking in riddles. What do you mean we're in the same situation? Also, you know that these people are looking for you right? This includes Jayme by the way. He's worried sick about you."

"Is he ok?" he asked, sounding panicked.

"Calm down, he's fine. He's with Xander's brother," I informed.

"Thales?" he asked, this time sounding surprised.

"Yes. Why do you sound so surprised? They are after all best friends," I pointed out. Xander told me that.

"I know. I'm only surprised because if Jayme's with Thales, then it only means that they're trying to not only find me, but piece together what I've been trying to," he said.

"You mean the imposter theory?" I questioned. Xander also let me in on that.

"So they've figured it out," he commented.

I was shocked. "Wait! You mean it's true?"

He sighed. "Look Ellie, I don't have much time on my hands right now. I was just worried about you and I needed to know that you're ok. Everything is probably confusing right now, but I promise that I'll come back to you when the time is right. Don't tell them I called you."

"How did you get this number anyway?" I asked.

"Like I said, I know everything," he responded before I was met by the dialling tone, making me realize something.

He never said what he needed my help with.

I tried calling him back, but the number was blocked, so there was no way that I could. Given everything I've heard about my brother, he's one of the smartest people on Earth, which is how I knew that trying to use the agency's tech to trace the call wouldn't work either.

He's too smart to be caught out that easily.

I headed back to the lounge to find the Cypher bunch still arguing. "Have you asked her?"

"I already know that she doesn't know where they are. She isn't working with them, or at least I don't think she is," my fiancé said.

"It's still not a good idea Xander. Let's not forget that Nadia also thinks she tried to kill her," Nigel pointed out.

"I assume the she you're talking about is me. Who did I try to kill?" I asked curiously.

"Our team member; we recently saved her from a mission and the moment she lay her eyes on you, she started panicking. She told us that you're the one who had taken, tortured and tried to kill her," Aziel informed.

"And did I?" I asked doubtfully.

"You didn't seem to know her when you saw her, so we don't know," Nigel said.

"But you think I did it," I said knowingly.

"There's a lot that we don't know about you, yes, but you didn't do it," Xander commented.

"And you're sure of this?" Zuri asked him.

He nodded. "I did my calculations after talking to Nadia. Blossom couldn't have been there because she was with me according to the timeline."

"So someone who looks like Elle kidnapped and tortured your team mate?" Winter asked.

"Or they used a digital mask," I pointed out.

Malachi looked confused. "But why frame you?"

And that's when I understood Nick's words.

I was being framed too.

"I have no idea," I said, scowling. Xander shot me a knowing look but I shook my head.

"So what's the final verdict about HQ?" Mordecai asked.

"You guys will go and I'll stay with blossom. We can call Silver and arrange a meeting with her at another location," Xander decided.

"And what about Nadia? We can't keep her at HQ forever and she's ready to join the team again," Mordecai pointed out.

"Is she aware that I'm here?" I asked no one in particular.

From how they all found a spot of the room interesting, I figured the answer was no.

"When Xander called us about his suspicions of fighting with you to retrieve the chip, we didn't say anything to her, so no, she doesn't know," Nigel told me.

"If she's rejoining the team, does that mean I have to steer clear of her?" I further questioned.

"You both need to be on board," Malachi replied.

"Except this girl hates Elle right? Let me guess, she's in love with Xander," Carter commented.

Again the Cypher team found something in the room interesting.

"Wait, let me get this straight. This girl hates me because she's convinced that I tried to kill her, and she's in love with Xander? Do you love her?" I asked my fiancé.

He shot me a dry look. "I love her like a sister, and before you ask, we have no history."

"You love her like a sister, but that's not what she wants from you," Winter noted.

Carter chuckled. "Oh, this is a bad idea waiting to happen."

"What are you talking about?" Zuri asked.

"In case you haven't realized, my best friend is a psycho," he replied.

I glared at him. "I resent that."

"Let me explain myself before you get all up in your feelings. What I'm talking about is the fact that you have a Super Soldier Formula in you. From what Xander has told us about it, it means you're most likely to react violently when triggered, and it sounds to me like this girl could very easily trigger that side of you. Whether you like it or not, you're very attached to your fiancé, and I don't mean that in a loving way either. It's my job to read situations and based on how closely you stand next to him, and how you somehow always find him in the room, it's clear to me that a big part of you is afraid to lose him. Now, we all know he loves you and he's not going to leave you, but I'd also like to think that that territorial side of you isn't going to take well to feeling threatened. If this girl is in love with Xander, and she hates Elle, it only makes sense that she'll want to flaunt her own connection to Xander in Elle's face, thus triggering the psycho side of my best friend. All I'm saying is that perhaps them being in the same space isn't advisable," Carter explained.

"I wouldn't kill her," I said.

"Intentionally you wouldn't," Winter commented.

I shot her a hurt look. "Don't give me that look. Carter's onto something here. We don't know how that other side of you works, but I'm pretty sure that being overprotective and attached to your fiancé is something that is worth triggering a reaction from it."

"As twisted as it sounds, I get what they're saying. Maybe keeping them apart is a good idea," Mordecai added.

"Yeah, but for how long? What you're suggesting means that not only does Xander have to split his time between the team and Elliephant, but that we have to work together and with Elliephant separately. It makes no sense to me. I say we tell Nadia the truth and Xander has to be honest with her and just tell her where they stand. If she persists with her obsession with him, then she does so at her own risk. If Elliephant harms her, it would be of her own doing," Malachi argued.

I actually agreed with him, especially because this Nadia chick clearly doesn't know where she stands with MY fiancé.

"I vote for that plan!" I declared.

Xander shot me an amused look. "You just want me to tell her to back off."

"It sounds to me like it's something you should've done long ago," I snapped.

He sighed, wrapping his arms around me. "I've barely spoken to her since she came back except to get the details of her kidnapping. In the past, I brushed off her obsession, but if it means that much to you, then I'll talk to her the next time I see her."

"Ok, that's sorted. When do we leave?" Aziel asked.

"We'll leave tomorrow," Nigel decided.

"And I'll call Silver tonight," Xander added.

"Are you not coming along?" Zuri asked him.

He shook his head. "Blossom is an enemy of Cypher right now, as much as I want to deny it. Alac is right in that they'll kill her, and there's no way I'm leaving her alone when there's a high chance the agency will take her back."

"Speaking of which, don't they check up on your missions?" Malachi asked me.

"They do, why?" I asked.

"I'm just curious as to why they haven't checked in to see how far you are with your mission," he replied.

"He has a point. They should've made contact by now," Winter commented.

"Do you think they know about my memories?" I panicked.

"It's obviously safer to assume that they do, given the fact that we all know just how powerful they are. What we need to figure out is what it is that they're waiting for," Carter said.

"There's no way of knowing that. As it is, we don't truly know what plans they have for blossom except to use her as a Super Soldier," my fiancé pointed out.

"Look, can we just deal with our trip to HQ first. We'll deal with everything else as time goes," Mordecai suggested.

It seemed like everyone was on board with that plan. Mordecai, Malachi, Nigel, Aziel and Zuri were all heading back to Cypher Headquarters, while Xander was staying behind with Carter, Winter and I. None of them knew about Jayme and Thales since my fiancé explained to me that it was our secret.

"So, I take it the two of you want to spend some time alone?" Winter guessed.

"You guys can stay if you want to. I mean, it would be great to hear stories about blossom," my fiancé replied, smirking.

I raised an eyebrow at the look on his face. "Just exactly what are you hoping they'll tell you?"

"Your dirty little secrets of course," Carter teased, making Winter and Xander laugh, probably at the horrified look on my face.

Nonetheless, my best friends stayed, sharing stories with my fiancé. Some of the things they told him I could remember, but some sounded foreign to me. From the way he was paying attention, I realized that Xander truly appreciated what they were telling him.

He was getting an experience into parts of me he doesn't know.

I couldn't help but just stare at him in that moment. I don't know if I've ever been in love before this, but I do know that I have never felt the way I do for Xander. He just completes me, despite how fucked up our lives are.

I wouldn't want to face the world with anyone else.

I was brought out of thought by soft, warm lips on mine and I kissed him back fervently. "What was that for?"

"Well, you kissed me first," I said, blushing.

He chuckled. "Because you were so spaced out that you didn't even hear your best friends leave."

I shrugged. "Maybe it's because I was lost in thought thinking about just how much I love my fiancé."

"Is that right? What exactly do you love about him?" he asked amusedly.

"Oh, you don't even know the half of it. He's got these eyes right. They're amber, which in itself is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, but that's not all. I look him in the eyes and I can see right through him. I see the pain he has about his own past, the anger he has about my past, the determination he has to change our futures and the love he has for me."

His whole mood changed when he realized how serious I was being, and I moved closer to him.

"He's the most intelligent and bravest person I know. I feel the safest when I'm with him. He has this tough exterior, and not many people know that he's really just a teddy bear on the inside. He cares more than he's willing to admit to himself and he would rather keep people at arm's length than expose himself. His number one priority is protecting those that he loves, so much so that he would risk his life for them. Inside, deep inside, he's just a vulnerable boy who wants to be loved, and luckily for him, that's exactly what my purpose in life is; to love him and to bring the little bit of light that I can."

He easily picked me up and placed me on his lap so that I was straddling him, before grabbing my face and kissing the daylights out of me. I was riding high in the clouds of bliss, and before I knew it, we were in the bedroom where he responded to my words in the best way he could.

By worshipping me as he put it.

"I want to go outside," I said randomly as he made us breakfast the following morning.

"You want to go outside and do what?" he asked. It was Sunday.

"I don't know, anything. I'm just over being trapped in here, and since you want to go back to classes tomorrow, I think I'd like to spend some time with you outside of this place," I replied.

"Firstly, we're going to classes tomorrow. You're not ditching your classes. Secondly, I didn't realize my company was that boring and that you felt trapped of all things," he joked.

"You know that's not what I meant. I just want to go outside and be in a different environment with you for once. Besides, that Jessie girl said people think we've broken up. I think it would be good to be seen in public together," I argued.

"You secretly want the girls to know I'm taken, don't you?" he asked knowingly.

I nodded. "Damn straight I do. This whole Nadia thing just reminded me that you're popular around these parts, and I've seen how girls react to you. If what Jessie is saying is true, then they definitely need to know that I'm still in the picture."

He was shirtless in all his glory, and he switched off the stove before coming over to stand between my legs. "Can I just say that I'm loving this jealous side of you?"

"No, you can't. Why would you even love it?" I asked in confusion.

"When we first met, I was the one who was super possessive of you, and I guess it's a refreshing change to have you be the possessive one," he explained.

"Are you saying that you're no longer possessive of me?" I questioned, eyebrow raised.

I didn't expect the passionate kiss I got. "I'll kill any man or boy who dare touches what's mine."

Did someone raise the heat in the kitchen?

"Isn't the food burning?" I asked to change the subject.

He smirked. "I turned the stove off."

I needed a new plan, and fast.

"What does this mean?" I asked, touching the tattoo on his chest.

"I got it to honour my family. I had a little sister by the name of Rosalinda, short name Rose, and she was murdered along with my parents, hence the rose. The A represents my parent's names. My father's name was Alexander, and my mother's name was Alojzia," he replied.

"From how rehearsed that sounded, I'm guessing you've told me before?" I asked, blushing as I looked down.

He lifted my chin, smiling. "You have, and you're still the only person who knows what it means."

"Really?" I asked.

He nodded. "I've never wanted to explain it to anyone else because of what it reminds me of, but with you, I hide nothing."

I couldn't say anything to that, and he didn't push anything either. He kissed me before going back to the pots on the stove. When breakfast was ready, he served it up for me, and it looked worthy of being on a five star restaurant menu.

Apparently he cooked because he knows I'm a terrible cook, even if he insists I was getting better months ago.

He granted me my request to head outside. We decided that we'd go to the park after taking a joint shower. He got dressed in his signature black outfit, while I got dressed in black skinny jeans, a burgundy singlet and my white Chucks. I styled my bob by curling it into many curls.

I had butterflies in my stomach as we walked in the park. It was a beautiful day out and everywhere around us, people seemed to be enjoying the afternoon sun. We both had our sunglasses on as we held hands.

"I keep forgetting to ask. Why do you speak with a British accent?" he asked as we walked by a group of laughing kids.

"It's the accent I've always spoken in, though based on your question, I'm guessing I didn't use it with you," I said knowingly.

He shook his head. "We were all pretty much convinced that you're American, but now I'm not so sure."

"I wish I could say I know since the agency told me my parents were dead and that they found me in England," I informed.

"That's very strange. What about Winter and Carter?" he asked.

"I don't know much about Winter's past since it's something she doesn't talk about, but I know that Carter is definitely English," I replied.

"And I'm guessing the three of you spent a lot of time together at the agency?" he asked.

I nodded. "They've always been there for me."

"Do they know that there's something you're hiding?" he challenged.

I sighed. "How do you even know?"

"I know you like the back of my hand blossom. You can either tell me, or I'll just find other ways to get it out of you," he told me.

"I can't tell you though," I argued.

"I thought we weren't keeping secrets from each other," he countered.

Ah damn!

"Nick called me yesterday," I gave up.

He frowned. "What? When?"

"While you guys were arguing about my going with you to Cypher Headquarters," I replied.

Before he could say anything, my phone rang and I took it out to answer it. "Hello?"

"Put me on speaker," was the demand I received. I did as asked.

"You're on speaker," I informed.

"You just had to tell him, didn't you?" he asked.

"How do you even know that I did?" I asked him.

"Besides the fact that I knew you would, I tapped into your phone," he informed.

"I don't even want to know why or how you did that," I responded.

"Xander," he called.

"Nicholas," my fiancé responded.

"Really? You're full naming me? Really Thanos?" Nick played back.

"Don't call me by that name," Xander said, visibly angered by it.

"Your first name is Thanos?" I asked him. He'd already told me that Xander is his second name.

"I'll explain everything to you. Where are you Nick?" my fiancé instead asked my brother.

"You don't need to worry about where I am. What you need to worry about is the fact that the two of you are being followed by people from Ellie's agency, so you need to be careful," Nick informed.

"How do you know that?" Xander asked him.

"I know everything."

"He knows everything."

My brother and I are synced ladies and gentlemen.

"Really? Even after this much time apart, the two of you still get each other?" Xander said, deadpan.

"She's my sister, as much as our lives are twisted," Nick replied.

"Speaking of which, why'd you lie about your father?" Xander asked him.

"I didn't lie about him. I myself only found out about him six months ago. However, I understand his reasons for how everything had to go down. Right now, the only thing you need to know is that he's not the enemy, and I know that's not much coming from me. You probably don't even trust anything I have to say," my brother replied.

"That's actually not true. While everyone has branded you a traitor, I know that you have your reasons for doing everything the way that you did, which is the same thing Jayme and Thales believe. If anything, you have allies with the three of us and blossom," my fiancé informed.

"And I thank you both for that. I will come to see you as soon as I can, but for now be careful. The agency is onto you, even if it doesn't look it. I know Ellie's memories are coming back, which means she's not going to kill you. I'm doing as much as I can to try and find out what these people want exactly, but as I'm sure she's told you, they're as elusive as they come. The both of you need to look out for each other and assume that the agency has made you both targets," Nick instructed.

"Got it," Xander said.

"Please be careful Nicky," I told him, using the name I could remember calling him in my memories of him.

"I will Ellie. Stay safe and I love you ok?" he said.

"I love you too," I replied before the line went dead.

"Do you think he knows that you're the one who had shot Gerhard in the first place?" Xander asked me.

"It would be strange if he didn't," I admitted.

"That's what I'm thinking too. Anyway, I think we should get out of here and head back to the apartment now that we're being watched," he suggested.

I pouted. "Can we get ice-cream on the way back?"

He laughed before kissing me. "Anything for you my blossom assassin."

He carried me on his back the whole way to the ice-cream parlour before we walked back to the apartment. The park in only a few minutes from the apartment, so we'd walked there in any case. When we arrived, I knew he knew what I wanted to know, but it didn't look like it was something he wanted to discuss.

"You don't have to tell me," I lied.

He sighed. "You're a terrible liar blossom. I know you really want to know."

"You just looked so angry being called by that name, and I won't lie and say I'm not curious," I admitted.

"I know you are blossom, and I don't blame you. It's just hard for me to talk about this one thing," he replied.

Before I could reply, there was a knock at the door. "Hold that thought."

I headed to answer the door, and I froze when I came face to face with the person on the other side. "You."

"Hello Noelle."
