When Eddie has a nightmare:

Eddie wakes up panting, covered in sweat and shaking. Immediately you wake up from his kicking, turning on the lamp that shows his terrified face.

He sits on the edge of the bed with his head in his hands, knee bouncing as he breathes heavy. You crawl behind him and wrap your arms tight around his body, pulling him to you.

He lies back down on your chest, allowing you to envelope him with your body as you rub a soothing hand down his back. Eddie trembles but keeps it together, not running away like he used to.

After a few minutes, you ask if he wants to talk about it. Sometimes he'll whisper it to you, on the verge of tears. Other times, when it's so bad, he'll shake his head.

He struggles to go back to sleep after, so you often offer to get him a drink of warm milk or water. Sometimes on occasion, Eddie will smoke a joint to calm his nerves, only when he's really struggling, then he'll ask if you'll tell him a story. Often you'll reuse the plots from Lord of the Rings or The Neverending Story, but Eddie doesn't mind.

After about an hour of holding him close, he'll begin to relax and doze off in your arms, clinging on to you.

When you have a nightmare:

Eddie shakes you awake, his face full of panic as you sit up and wrap your arms around yourself, scared and on the verge of screaming.

Eddie gently touches you and when you don't freak out, he'll pull you towards him, holding you in his lap as you cry or tremble.

Eddie reassures you and runs his hand through your hair, kissing your head as he gently rocks you. He'll often as if you need anything, offering you a drink.

Once you've calmed a bit, Eddie will lay you back down and tuck you in, making a small joke or telling you something he knows will make you smile. Sometimes he'll check the closet or under the bed, pretending his searching for the nightmare, then he'll shrug and say he can't see it, so it must've gone.

He'll climb into bed and wrap himself around you, squeezing you tight and holding your hand, telling you how proud he is of you and how it'll all be okay now.

Eventually you fall asleep, and Eddie will try to go to sleep after you, insisting he won't even close his eyes until your back to sleep and happy.
