Chapter 34

*Sudhir Pov*

"What is it?" I asked Sanju impatiently when she just continued to stare at me.

"Looks like you are still put into that zone." She replied.

"You are really annoying me." I said and continued to do my work.

"Just think me as your friend even though I already am." She said sitting in front of me.

"I am not going to discuss anything with you." I said shaking my head.

"I am not going to ask you to." She said back.

"Leave!" I said, sighing.

"Come on, Sudhir. She is an amazing girl, and it will not take time for her to find someone who will take care of her in which you are failing." She said sighing back.

"I wish!" she whispered before sleeping.

"Why do you think that I am failing?" I asked her frowning.

"Then who got friend zoned by their wife." She replied shaking her head.

"Look, I can handle everything, and you need not to say anything." I said and continued my work.

"She is not just two years younger than you Sudhir. She can't understand what is in your head in the snap of your fingers. She is younger than us, and you need to take lots of steps forward." She said looking at me.

"But she takes care of Ayesha like any real mother would do, and she understands me so much. And I really don't know how to make her understand." I said rubbing my forehead.

"I am not going to tell you anything, but it is time for you to read my gifted book." Saying that she left the cabin before I can scold her.

"Ok, I will try my best." I thought to myself, but not to read that book.

In the evening, I went home carrying a flower bouquet in my hand. I smiled at her, and she smiled back.

"Do you like these?" I asked her giving them.

"For me?" She asked, getting up from the couch.

"No! For the house décor." I replied.

"Ok!" She said, nodding.

I sighed and pulled her hand into mine and placed it in her hands. She took them and said "Thanks."

"You were teasing me." I stated.

"Guilty." She said, shrugging, but continued to smile.

"Where is Ayesha?" I asked, sitting down and she sat back.

"She asked me not to disturb her saying she needs to finish her work." She replied smiling more.

"You love her don't you?" I asked her, and she leaned on my shoulder.

"Yes! She just makes me feel glad every day that she is in my life, and I am even glad that I am married to you and get to love her like this." She replied, and I placed my hand on her shoulder.

"That's all you are glad about?" I asked, turning her face towards mine.

"Well, you are a great friend." She replied after a few minutes, and I shook my head placing a kiss on her forehead.

"How did you feel that one year when we were distant I mean knowing wise?" I asked her.

"Do you really want to know?" She asked shocked.

"Definitely!" I replied.

"In the beginning, I really had hoped you know that we will be friends until you mourn for Indu Di, and then we will have our relation normally. Ayesha already kind of accepted me too soon for the matter. But then I slowly started losing the hope like slowly." She said sighing.

"And then I completely lost the hope when I don't know, but I did for us to have any relation in the future. When you said you want to be friends, I thought it would be better to be that than some strangers." She said shrugging.

"Can you hope again?" I asked her slowly.

"I did for a few seconds before but not now." She replied honestly.

"I am so sorry, Nisha." I said, releasing her and sat back.

"You need not to apologize." She said, shaking her head.

"No! I have to." I said, holding her hand.

"That one year I was not just mourning." I added.

"What do you mean?" She asked confused.

"I was feeling guilty along with mourning because I really think if I had not fought with her, then she would have been alive. I should have given the divorce, she was asking so badly, but I didn't fear she will take Ayesha away, and with the hope that I can make our marriage work." I replied.

"It is not your fault." She said, rubbing my hand.

"But it was, even though unintentionally. And then to top off that the new business and a new locality. Everything piled up one above the other. Whenever I got time I spent it with Ayesha thinking she will feel alone if I don't do that, but my mind was not working at that time in the maters other than the office." I said, and she nodded slowly.

"And to top of that I became a burden." She mumbled.

"No! You actually took away so much pressure from me. I showed my worry for Ayesha outside, but inside, I never felt that because I don't know I felt her secure with you." I said shaking my head.

"But you called me selfish." She said frowning.

"Ok! Now I am going to say something really selfish thing. I had the preconception of the words I heard even though I know you are not selfish inside but the main reason more than that was jealousy." I said looking at her.

"Jealousy?" She asked, confused.

"Yes! I was jealous because whatever I used to do from the beginning is being done by you for her, and she was more than happy. I was jealous because I felt she will love you more than me." I replied.

I stared at her face and immediately said "Don't laugh!"

"But I can't help it." She said, bursting out laughing.

"Oh, Sudhir! She loves you so much. She always used to talk about you so never get that doubt." She said, ruffling my hair and my eyes widened.

"Do that again." I said, and she ruffled them again.

"I like it when someone does that. My Mom used to do that." I mumbled, and she tightened her grip on my hand.

"So what changed your mind about me?" She asked changing the topic.

"Well, after the business got settled, I started looking at you; I mean knowing you slowly and that day when I saw the hurt in your eyes. I felt so guilty and tried my best to let you know about me, not cheating, but you brushed me off with ok." I replied.

"I said Ok because I trusted your words." She said shrugging.

"I heard your pleas that day to your mother and remembered them slowly. I guess I kind of had the misconception that you don't want all this, but you did all this for both of us, so I know I should do something to make it up." I said.

"So that's why you asked us to be friends." She stated, and I nodded.

"I kind of jumped into settling myself very early Nisha. On top of that marriage and the expectations from everyone. I really don't know how to express what I am feeling from the day I lost my parents. I did little with Indu, but we were never friends you know." I said, and she nodded.

"Ok! So we actually had a heart to heart talking then." She said leaning back.

"I want our relation not just as friends Nisha. I know I broke all your hope, but I just want to let you know that I will not break it again." I said, and she stared at me shocked.

"This is not a joke?" She asked, and I shook my head.

"I shouldn't have shown this kind of affection of kisses without telling you all this, but now I told you, and until you feel ok with this idea I will not do that again." I replied promising her.

"But..." She said and trailed off.

"I know it will take time for you to adapt all this, and I am not forcing you. We will wait until you are ready because I am, and I really like you." I said and she just continued to stare at me.

"Do you have any questions?" I asked her.

"You are not doing this, feeling guilty right? I mean my word still stands that I will back away when you find the one for you." She replied.

"I blame myself for you to have that idea. But I don't have any wish to find someone, and I don't want that word of yours to be there. Even though I can give you my word that even after trying you don't like it, I can give you freedom." I said tightening my grip.

"You would?" She asked me surprised, but I can see the sadness.

"Mostly no but I will try." I replied and looks like she wanted that answer because the sadness left her, and she smiled.

"Thanks for talking to me." She said smiling.

"And I am sorry for talking to you when so much time passed." I said back.

"Well, I am not feeling confused, but I really need time." She said.

"And I will give you time and also will not do something to which you will feel uncomfortable." I said and got up.

We had dinner with Ayesha complaining how much she needs to study, but she is sleepy.

"You will be not going to give your public exam tomorrow, so sleep." I said, rolling my eyes and made her lay on her bed.

"Mom! I need to study good right." She said turning towards Nisha.

"I will wake you up early." Nisha said, wishing her good night.

And she immediately accepted making me mumble "You are not listening to me."

"I am a mom's girl." She said sticking out her tongue.

We both walked to our room after she drifted off into sleep and lay down on the bed. She is on her side looking at me, and I am on my side.

"Good night." I said, closing my eyes.

"That's it?" Her question made me open my eyes.

"What do you mean?" I asked her frowning.

"Are you going to sleep?" She asked back.

"Yes!" I replied.

She sighed and moved near me. I placed my hands around her, and she snuggled close to me.

"I thought you would be uncomfortable." I said tightening my hold.

"You spoiled me." She accused and closed her eyes.

I chuckled and drifted off into sleep along with her placing a kiss on her forehead...
